Chapter 86 Marrying into the Family

"I will marry into the family."

Bao Min's words not only shocked Cai Damei inside the house, but also stunned Tong Mo and Ye Yunniang outside, who gaped in disbelief.

Cai Damei looked at Bao Min with a complicated expression, "You really care about Jiang Mingzhe." You even thought of marrying into his family so that Jiang Mingzhe would call you "Dad."

“It’s not because of Jiang Mingzhe. It’s because of…” Bao Min paused, unsure how to continue. His gaze fell on Cai Damei’s stomach, and he no longer hesitated.

"Madam, if I say I truly love you, would you believe me?"

"I don't believe it." Cai Damei said without the slightest hesitation.

Cai Damei is self-aware; she is of average appearance and doesn't come from a good family. She also has a daughter-in-law and three grandchildren to support.

Bao Min smiled bitterly; he knew Cai Damei would say that.

“Madam, three years ago I approached you with the intention of getting Jiang Mingzhe to call me ‘father’.”

However, after spending a long time with his wife...

The woman possessed an indomitable spirit, a perpetually striving attitude. Her unwavering devotion to her grandchildren, and her loving care for them… these qualities subtly won me over.

At this point, Bao Min grasped Cai Damei's hand.

"My relationship with my wife began with my scheming and coercion. I was afraid you would laugh at me if you knew. I was also afraid you would leave me completely."

These are only a small part of the story. The real reason is that Bao Min realized that Cai Damei had no feelings for him.

Bao Min found it very difficult to accept that he had developed feelings for Cai Damei.

In the meantime, Bao Min, taking advantage of being busy, didn't visit Cai Damei for several months. He wanted to force himself to forget Cai Damei.

But the more he tried to forget, the more he couldn't. His mind was filled with thoughts of Cai Damei.

Tong Mo came to tell him again that Cai Damei had been living a very comfortable life these past few months since he stopped going to Wanxia Lane. She even developed new flavors of side dishes.

Bao Min was unwilling to accept this, and he decided to make Cai Damei fall in love with him too.

For the next two years, Bao Min treated Cai Damei very, very well.

Tragically, Cai Damei felt no joy; instead, she grew increasingly distressed. She even suggested ending the relationship.

Bao Min, who was originally in a good mood, got angry and tormented Cai Damei for three days.

Seeing Cai Damei's exhausted face, Bao Min regretted his actions and, not knowing what to say, fled in a disheveled state.

It just so happens that this is the summer harvest season, so Bao Min takes advantage of being busy to avoid going to Wanxia Lane, and instead has his trusted confidants secretly protect Cai Damei.

Listening to her confidante's report, Cai Damei looked for a shop to open. Busy every day, she didn't think about herself at all.

Bao Min felt a sharp pang of resentment and even harbored some hatred for Cai Damei. However, he couldn't bring himself to beg for reconciliation.

Until today, Tong Mo rushed back and told him that Cai Damei was pregnant.

Bao Min was overjoyed; he now had an excuse to visit Cai Damei. The next moment, Tong Mo's words turned Bao Min's joy into fear.

Cai Damei wants to abort his child.

No, he disagrees.

"Madam, I've consulted the doctor. You're not young anymore, and an abortion would be very harmful to your body. A proper postpartum period would be much better for your health."

"Don't worry about the child. I'll take care of him after he's born. I raised Tong Mo myself, so I have a lot of experience in taking care of children." Bao Min used Tong Mo as an example.

“My uncle is lying. He’ll just leave me with the wet nurse,” Tong Mo retorted from outside the window.

Ye Yunniang ignored Tong Mo's words and listened attentively to Cai Damei's speech. She wanted to know what Cai Damei thought. In her heart, she would support whatever decision Cai Damei made.

Cai Damei still wants an abortion; she can't keep the baby.

Unable to persuade her, Bao Min had no choice but to take action. He arranged for people to watch Cai Damei around the clock, not giving her any chance to take the medicine.

"Grandma, are you seriously ill?" Li Pan's face was full of concern, while Li An and Li Ping stared at her anxiously from the side.

“No.” Cai Damei reached out and touched the heads of the three people.

"Then why is Master Bao in such a hurry?" Li Pan asked, disbelieving. Given Bao Min's special status, calling him "Uncle" was inappropriate; a compromise was to address him as "Master Bao."

“Grandma is really alright,” Cai Damei assured her.

To ease her grandson's worries, Cai Damei and Bao Min communicated privately.

I don't know how they discussed it, but Bao Min stopped following Cai Damei around 12 hours a day. Cai Damei refused to have an abortion.

"What's going on outside?" Cai Damei asked, hearing the commotion.

Ye Yunniang briefly explained the situation.

"Be extra careful these next few days, and don't let the children go to Courtyard No. 8. Go and get a few more amulets for the children to wear. Also, give Pingping some calming medicine tonight," Cai Damei instructed Ye Yunniang after listening.

"Okay." Ye Yunniang listened attentively.

Ye Yunniang asked Cai Damei to look after Li Ping while she went to the Du family school to pick up the two children from school.

Li Pan and Li An walked out of the Du family school and saw Ye Yunniang who had come to pick them up. They ran towards her.

"Mother/Mother," the two called out.

Ye Yunniang took a handkerchief and wiped their sweat. She then led them home, one by one. They stopped at a pharmacy along the way.

"Mother, is Grandma feeling unwell again?" Li Pan knew that Cai Damei had been vomiting lately.

“It’s not Grandma. It’s Pingping.” Ye Yunniang briefly recounted what had happened in the alley that afternoon.

"You two, you have to drink it before bed too." Ye Yunniang's words made Li Pan and Li An both grimace, as neither of them liked taking medicine.

"Mother, I have some news for you. Is it possible to skip taking your medicine?" Li Pan asked Ye Yun's mother.

"What news?"

"Hongyan and Ma Kouzi are together," Li Pan whispered in Ye Yunniang's ear.

"Have you seen it?" Ye Yunniang looked at Li Pan and Li An.

“Yeah, we were playing hide-and-seek a few days ago. An’an and I hid at the end of the alley first. The other two came later, and they didn’t even check if anyone was there before they started hugging each other and taking off their clothes,” Li Pan was about to continue when Li An kicked him, reminding him to stop talking.

“We didn’t look after that. When Erlei came looking for them, they ran away,” Li An quickly said.

Ye Yunniang breathed a sigh of relief and told the two of them, "Don't look at it next time, or you'll get a sty."

“Okay, I won’t look,” Li Pan agreed. “Mother, can I stop taking the tranquilizer?”

"No," Ye Yunniang refused.

"Mother~" Li Pan was unhappy, she had already agreed to him.

Did I say I agreed?

Li Pan thought for a moment and then pouted, "Mom, you're lying to me again."

"You definitely need to take the medicine. But you can buy candied hawthorns when you get back," Ye Yunniang said, mentioning candied hawthorns.

Li Pan's displeasure vanished instantly.

Worried that eating too many sweets would be bad for their teeth, Ye Yunniang usually controls the amount of sweets her three children eat.

Li Pan also loves sweets the most.

After taking the tranquilizer, I bought five candied hawthorns to take home.

The bloodstain not far from the house has been cleaned up.

When they got home, Ye Yunniang distributed the candied hawthorns to her three children and Xu's two sons, Da Lei and Er Lei.

The five people ate candied hawthorns while Ye Yunniang went to make dinner.
