Ye Yunniang turned around and saw Hongyan walk into courtyard number 1. A human-shaped shadow followed beside her.
Ye Yunniang looked up at the sky; it was overcast with not a ray of sunshine.
"Little brother,"
Ye Yunniang quickly covered Li An's mouth, "Don't talk, don't look."
Ang Lee looked puzzled.
“Let’s talk about it when we get home,” Ye Yunniang reassured Li An.
Li An nodded, and Ye Yunniang hugged him. She no longer had the heart to watch the spectacle.
"What's wrong?"
"It's nothing." Ye Yunniang couldn't tell anyone about it.
"Why don't you come to my house for a while?" Chunyao didn't ask any further questions.
Ye Yunniang wanted to go home more, but the shadows were watching her. Ye Yunniang shook her head, "I want to see what happens next."
"Okay." Chunyao also wanted to see what happened next.
The three turned their attention back to the courtyard.
Ma Kouzi pushed aside the inconvenient Niu Dajiao and carefully helped Hongyan up. "Why are you here?" His tone was gentler than Niu Dajiao had ever heard before.
Thinking of all the sacrifices he had made over the years, Niu Dajiao impulsively wanted to hit Hongyan, but was stopped by Ma Xiaokou and Chunxing.
Seeing her father's reaction, Niu Dajiao rushed forward, but she was the one who got beaten up.
"You promised me, do you still keep your word?" Hongyan didn't answer, but asked Ma Kouzi instead.
"Yes, I, Ma Kouzi, keep my word," Ma Kouzi said as if to assure himself.
"Okay." Hongyan was very satisfied. She sat down by Ma Kouzi's hand and looked at Wang Qiang. "Give me the divorce papers."
"Hongyan, what do you mean?" Wang Qiang frowned; Hongyan's attitude was beyond his expectations.
“I won’t tell anyone about your affair. Give me the divorce papers.” Hongyan reached out her hand.
Are you threatening me?
"I just want to live a normal life for the rest of my days," Hongyan smiled.
"Shameless slut, you want a peaceful life? There are plenty of men on the street, go find them. Why are you clinging to my man, you wanton whore!" Niu Dajiao's hands and feet were grabbed, but his mouth was closed, so he opened his mouth to curse Hongyan.
Ma Kouzi was angry and wanted to say something, but Hongyan stopped him.
Now is not the time to argue with Big Foot Cow.
"Let's go inside and talk," Ma Hui said, looking at the people surrounding them, not wanting his family matters to be overheard.
"Okay, let's go inside and talk." Wang Qiang walked into the house first.
The Ma family and Wang Qiang and his wife went inside to talk.
Some people who wanted to eavesdrop peeked through the crack in the door.
Ye Yunniang couldn't bring herself to do such a thing, and seeing that the shadow wasn't watching her, she got off the stool and went to the room with Chunyao to talk.
"Sister Chunyao, what brings you here?" Ye Yunniang asked curiously.
Chunyao smiled, "What you want to ask is how we left the Jiang family, right?"
Ye Yunniang smiled shyly.
Chunyao began her story from the beginning.
The day before the raid, Chef Jin brought back the family's indentures, saying they were free and wanted to leave the Jiang residence.
Chunyao wasn't happy about it at the time and had a big argument with Chef Jin. Why make such a fuss when you can live a good life?
The next day, when the soldiers came to her door, Chunyao was relieved.
On the third day, they were free and unaffected, and were not taken away by human traffickers. The whole family was able to leave the Jiang family home intact.
Chef Jin took his whole family back to his hometown and opened a small restaurant to make a living.
"The restaurant isn't big, but Lao Jin's cooking is excellent, and our family is doing quite well," Chunyao said, her voice filled with satisfaction as she spoke of life back home.
"Then why did you come back?"
"Who knows what he was thinking. He suddenly sold the restaurant last month. He said he was going to open a restaurant in Jiangcheng." Chunyao said angrily.
“Jiangcheng is a prosperous city, and your brother-in-law has excellent cooking skills. If you open a restaurant in Jiangcheng, it will definitely be a great success,” Ye Yunniang advised.
Chunyao understood the logic, but what angered her was that Chef Jin hadn't consulted her at all. He had taken it upon himself to sell the restaurant and the house.
"Never mind me." Chunyao took a sip of tea. "I really didn't expect to see you again. Your son has grown up. I remember, your son's name is 'Pan'er'?"
“My eldest son is named Pan’er. He is my second son, Li An. I also have a younger son named Li Ping.”
"You remarried? Which family did you marry into, and how did he treat you?" Chunyao asked with concern.
Ye Yunniang shook her head, "I didn't remarry. An'an and Pingping were adopted." Ye Yunniang told Chunyao what she had been told others.
"Adopted?" Chunyao was surprised. "Where did you adopt her? An'an looks a bit like the Fourth Madam to me."
"I adopted An'an because he resembled my young master," Ye Yunniang explained with a smile.
Mentioning Jiang Tingjun, Chunyao sighed, "I wonder how the young master is doing now?"
"I think I'm doing well," Ye Yunniang said guiltily.
Chunyao nodded. "The Jiang family has fallen. The Jin family is still very powerful. They will definitely be able to take good care of Madam and Young Master."
Ye Yunniang nodded in agreement.
Chunyao then asked Ye Yunniang about her life over the past few years.
Ye Yunniang picked out what she could talk about, spoke with Chunyao, and then took Li An home.
Upon returning home, I entered the side room.
Ye Yunniang closed the door.
"An'an, do you remember what happened at the Jiang residence?"
Li An nodded, "I remember, the little brother asked me to play."
Ye Yunniang's face turned pale. "Did your little brother come to play with you again?"
Ang Lee nodded and then shook his head.
“He came and wanted to play with me. I didn’t agree.” Li An refused to play with him. He also didn’t pester Li An.
"An'an, if you want to play, go play with your brother and the others, don't play with strangers," Ye Yunniang carefully instructed.
Li An nodded and reached out to touch Ye Yunniang's face. "Mother, don't be afraid."
Ye Yunniang held Li An's small hand, "Mother, don't be afraid. Do you still remember Chunyao?"
“I remember, Chunyao, your wet nurse.” Jiang Tingjun remembered that Chunyao had been his wet nurse.
