Ye Yunniang told the story of arranging a ghost marriage in Lincheng.
“I’m so grateful that he saved my life time and time again. But whenever I see his face, I can’t help but think of the scene in the coffin, face to face,” Ye Yunniang paused. That scene was too traumatic; the more Ye Yunniang tried to forget it, the clearer it became in her mind.
"Tong Mo is a very good young man. But we're really not a good match."
After listening to Ye Yunniang's story, Tong Tiemei and Zhou Bowen didn't know how to persuade her.
"It's my fault." Tong Tiemei blamed herself for not teaching Tong Mo well.
"Sister Mei, this has nothing to do with you. It's all Bao Min's fault for teaching him." Zhou Bowen shifted the blame onto Bao Min.
“I taught Bao Min.” Tong Tiemei was unhappy with Zhou Bowen’s comments about Bao Min.
"It's my fault. As a father, I didn't teach my son well," Zhou Bowen immediately changed his tune.
"Don't worry, Ms. Ye. I won't let Tong Mo bother you again," Tong Tiemei assured her before leaving the Li family.
Ye Yunniang closed the courtyard gate and went to the main room.
The three children were rummaging through drawers and cabinets, looking for something.
"What are you looking for?"
“We’re looking,” Li Pan glanced at Li An, “How should I put it?”
"Find the money," Li Ping uttered.
"Silver?" Ye Yunniang looked at Li An. "What kind of silver are you looking for?"
“I’m looking for the New Year’s money I hid before,” Li An said, bowing his head.
Ye Yunniang understood what Li An wanted the money for. She stepped forward and hugged Li An.
"You are my son, and that will never change."
“But,” Li An wanted to say something but didn’t know how, so he bit his lip and remained silent.
"An'an, Mommy will tell you a secret."
"What secret?" Li Pan leaned closer, and Li Ping also ran over, wanting to hear.
"What secret is Mother going to tell us?" Li An wanted to know.
"The secret is this. An'an, you are very, very rich." Ye Yunniang's three sons did not believe her words.
“Mother is lying,” Li Ping was the first to speak.
"Our family has no money." Li Pan is 7 years old and knows a little about her family's financial situation.
A house, a shop, a farm.
"Mother, why am I the one with money?" Li An asked, puzzled.
"An'an is so smart, she understood what I meant right away," Ye Yunniang praised.
“Pingping is smart too.” Li Ping leaned his head under Ye Yunniang’s hand.
"Yes, yes, our Pingping is very smart too." Ye Yunniang patted her youngest son's head, then raised her hand to pat Li Pan's head.
"Was it left for him by An'an's biological mother?" Li Pan wondered.
“Impossible,” Li An retorted immediately. If Jin Huifang had money, she wouldn’t have resorted to murder.
“It’s your second uncle. He took back all the property your father took away. It’s all yours,” Ye Yunniang explained.
“He’s not my biological father.” Li An harbored deep hatred for Jiang Mingrui and didn’t want anything from him.
“An’an, then it should be yours. Why don’t you want it?” Li Pan asked, puzzled.
"Second brother is silly. If you want it, give it to Mother." Li Ping said.
Ang Lee realized what was happening and said, "I want it, I want it now."
“Not now. You have to be 18, grown up, capable, and pass your second uncle’s test before you can get it,” Ye Yunniang explained.
"Second Uncle is so annoying." Li Ping pouted, "He hides his money and doesn't let us spend it."
“You’re not allowed to say that,” Ye Yunniang paused, “You can’t say that Uncle An’an is wrong.”
“He’s clearly wrong,” Li An agreed with Li Ping. “It costs money for my mother to raise me, so he should give her money.”
"Who said he didn't give it to me?" Ye Yunniang regretted her words as soon as she finished speaking, realizing that she was making more and more mistakes.
Faced with the three children's fixed gazes, Ye Yunniang was momentarily at a loss for words.
"Mother, don't think we can't know just because we're children." Li Pan anticipated what Ye Yunniang was going to say.
“Yes, I’m four years old, not a three-year-old,” Li Ping agreed.
Ye Yunniang: ...Even at 4 years old, he's still a little kid.
Ang Lee also looked eager to know the truth.
Ye Yunniang was in a dilemma; she didn't want to lie. But how could she tell the children about what happened between her and Jiang Mingzhe?
"Let me speak." A mature and steady voice rang out from the doorway.
Ye Yunniang looked up in shock.
"You're back!"
Li Pan and the other two turned around and saw a man they didn't recognize.
Li An hesitated for a moment, "Second Uncle?"
"Second Uncle," Li Pan and Li Ping called out.
“You should call me ‘father’.”
"Father?" Jiang Mingzhe's words surprised the three of them. Why?
"Yes," Jiang Mingzhe replied.
“My father is Li Jun, not you?” Li Pan retorted.
“Yes, our father is Li Jun.” Li An nodded in agreement.
Ang Lee seemed to remember something, but didn't speak.
Jiang Mingzhe didn't answer the three children, but instead said to Ye Yunniang, "You go ahead and go. I'll talk to them."
Ye Yunniang hesitated for a moment before leaving the room and sitting in the courtyard, lost in thought.
Today's events have been so impactful for her.
These matters still need to be handled by Ye Yunniang.
The matter of Wang Daxing, Jin Lanxuan taking An'an away, and Jiang Mingzhe's return.
Ye Yunniang felt her mind was in a mess. With so many things to deal with, how was she supposed to handle them?
Looking up at the sky, it was getting dark; I needed to prepare dinner.
Ye Yunniang got up and went into the kitchen to cook. Since her hands hurt and she couldn't chop or stir-fry vegetables, Ye Yunniang decided to cook noodles instead.
The noodles were dried noodles bought from the Xu family.
Besides selling soup noodles at their stall, the Xu family also sells dried noodles. Many people buy them; they're convenient and easy to eat.
Boil water, add noodles and greens, and finally sprinkle with chopped green onions.
Make a simple noodle dish with greens and scallions.
The dishes were the small fried fish I had fried earlier, the spicy dried meat I bought from Zhang's house, and the pickled radish I had mixed in the morning.
"I'll serve the noodles." Jiang Mingzhe took the chopsticks from Ye Yunniang and served the noodles.
"The little red fish's bowl is flat, and he doesn't like to eat scallions."
The gold ingot bowl belongs to An'an; he adds a drop of vinegar to his noodles.
"The bamboo bowl belongs to Pan'er; he doesn't eat sesame oil," Ye Yunniang reminded Jiang Mingzhe, adding that he should be careful when serving the noodles.
"And you?" Jiang Mingzhe picked scallions from the small red fish bowl.
"I'm not picky about food, anything is fine." Ye Yunniang set the bowls out.
“I’m not picky about food; I can eat anything. I once led a caravan to the south and even had a feast of insects there.”
"You can eat insects?" Ye Yunniang asked in surprise.
"Hmm, it tastes good. Especially the bamboo worms, which feed on tender bamboo shoots. After being deep-fried, they are fragrant, tender, crispy, and have a refreshing bamboo aroma," Jiang Mingzhe said, savoring the taste.
Ye Yunniang was intrigued and wanted to try it.
"Next time I go south, I'll take you with me."
"I can't," Ye Yunniang shook her head. She still had children to take care of and couldn't just leave.
"When the child is older, I'll take you out to travel and try different local delicacies," Jiang Mingzhe said, serving the noodles and taking them to the main room.
Ye Yunniang was once again shocked by his words.
