Chapter 14 Self-sufficiency

Ye Yunniang gritted her teeth and told him her thoughts.

She will combine the parenting experiences she heard from the midwife and Cai Damei with her own thoughts and express them.

Children also have their own ideas when interacting with adults.

He would gradually test the adults' limits.

Knowing that crying will get him what he wants, he will gradually escalate his crying to get even more.

Parents should set a bottom line for their children from the beginning. If they cross it, they won't get anything they want. Otherwise, they will spoil their children and make them unruly.

After Ye Yunniang finished speaking, she lowered her head and waited for the lady to get angry.

She knew she shouldn't speak up as a servant. But having nursed Jiang Tingjun for months, she couldn't bear to see him become a disliked child.

There was a very cute child in the village who was pampered by his family and given whatever he wanted. But later, the child became more and more repulsive.

Madam Jiang saw through Ye Yunniang's thoughts, but she was not angry.

Having grown up in an environment where she knew better than anyone the principle of "praise to the point of destruction." When choosing a wet nurse, she tried to find someone honest and unassuming, someone who wouldn't cause trouble, even if it meant doing a lot for her son.

Now it seems that Ye Yunniang is quite good.

Ye Yunniang was not punished but rewarded, and the maids and servants in the house treated her with much more respect.

Ye Yunniang did not change her personality because of this; she continued to take care of him as before.

This made Madam Jiang increasingly satisfied with her, and she even generously gave her half a day off so that she could go out of the mansion to see her son.

Upon receiving the news, Ye Yunniang knelt down with joy, saying, "Thank you, Madam."

"You deserve it."

Madam Jiang not only asked Ye Yunniang to leave the mansion, but also rewarded her with a lot of clothes and fabric.

After handing over the reins to Chunyao, Ye Yunniang did not eat lunch. She and Li'er left the Jiang residence carrying two bundles on their backs.

Coral asked Pear to accompany Ye Yunniang.

Arriving at the address at No. 12 Wanxia Lane, I knocked on the gate.

"They're here, they're here."

Upon hearing Cai Damei's voice, Ye Yunniang's eyes welled up with tears.

"Why are you crying, sister?" Li'er reminded Ye Yunniang, who then noticed that her face was covered in tears.

"I,"

The door was open, and Cai Damei stood in the courtyard holding Pan'er.

"Mother," Ye Yunniang said, her voice trembling with tears.

"Oh, Yunniang is back!" Cai Damei exclaimed happily.

Rumble... Cai Damei's stomach rumbled, and she slapped her forehead, "Look at me, I was so happy that I forgot to cook. Come inside quickly, Mom will cook."

"I'll go cook," Ye Yunniang said, handing the bundle to Li'er and asking her to carry it inside.

"You hold Pan'er, I'll go do it." Cai Damei put Pan'er in Ye Yunniang's arms, took the bundle from Li'er's hand, and went into the kitchen.

Ye Yunniang held Pan'er in her arms, unable to get enough of looking at her.

Pan'er had almost forgotten her mother and stared at the person in front of her with wide eyes.

In the kitchen, Cai Damei and Li'er are preparing to cook.

Pear knew Cai Damei's identity and told her many things about Ye Yunniang in the Jiang family. Of course, she could tell her what was said, but she didn't say a word that was not supposed to be said.

Cai Damei held Pan'er in her arms and let the two of them eat.

After dinner, Li'er took Pan'er to play in the yard.

Pan'er, who is one and a half years old, can already walk.

Inside the house, Ye Yunniang opened the bundle she had brought back and talked to Cai Damei about the things she had brought back, especially the bag of jewelry that the lady had given her, most of which she had brought back.

Cai Damei now truly felt that what Cai Xiaomei said was absolutely right.

Wealthy families could easily afford to live on a small amount of money for three to five years. Any item Ye Yunniang had could be exchanged for 20 or 30 taels of silver.

"How have you been at the Jiang residence?" Cai Damei finally asked.

"The lady treats me very well," Ye Yunniang said, also recounting Ding Fang's earlier schemes.

She then shared some of the things she did while taking care of her child.

"I nursed that child all my life, and I only wanted what was best for him," Ye Yunniang explained.

"You did the right thing." Cai Damei didn't scold her, but she did remind her to be careful. They were just maids, so they should be mindful of what they said.

The grandmother and grandson were waiting for her to come home.

Ye Yunniang nodded, saying she would be careful.

Cai Damei noticed Ye Yunniang's hesitation. "What's wrong?"

Ye Yunniang didn't know what to say; she felt ashamed and embarrassed.

"What's wrong? Are you trying to worry your mother to death?" Cai Damei slapped her thigh.

Ye Yunniang gritted her teeth and said that lately she had been having recurring dreams. She dreamt of a man appearing, and then… Ye Yunniang couldn't continue, and with a sob in her voice, she asked Cai Damei, “Mother, is something wrong with me?”

Cai Damei breathed a sigh of relief and took Ye Yunniang's hand.

"When you come back, almost three years will have passed. Your mother will find you a good husband."

"I don't want to." Ye Yunniang shook her head vigorously.

Ye Yunniang only wanted to stay with her child and mother and live a simple life.

“Pan’er is growing up and will have his own life. You can’t stay by his side forever. You have to think more about yourself.” Cai Damei didn’t intend for Ye Yunniang to stay by his side forever.

Upon hearing this, Ye Yunniang panicked, "Mother, don't you want me anymore?"

“How could your mother abandon you?” Cai Damei comforted Ye Yunniang. “It’s too early to talk about these things now. We’ll discuss them after you return home from the Jiang residence. However, you can’t stay like this. You need to learn to help yourself.”

"Help yourself?" Ye Yunniang was puzzled, recalling the night she kissed Li Yongcheng. She had only one feeling: pain, excruciating pain.

Ye Yunniang always felt that that thing was painful, and she didn't want it at all.

Cai Damei glanced outside, then approached Ye Yunniang and spoke to her about how to be self-sufficient.

Ye Yunniang's eyes widened in surprise; she hadn't expected it to be like this.

On the way back, Ye Yunniang's face was flushed. Li'er thought she was red from crying because she was sad to part with her son.

"Sister, don't be sad. You've taken good care of the young master. Madam will let you leave the manor."

Responding to Li'er's comforting words, Ye Yunniang softly hummed in agreement. She couldn't answer Li'er's question; she knew she was sad about parting, but more so, she was moved by what Cai Damei had said…
