36 Chapter 36

36 Chapter 36

◎Who knows my anxiety◎

This sleep lasted for two days.

Jiang Jingyun seemed to be trapped in a swamp, with an invisible force dragging his heavy body down continuously until it completely swallowed him up.

Consciousness also disappears.

In a daze, he felt that someone was abusing him.

First, they opened his mouth and poured a bitter poison into his intestines. Then, with Madam Rong by his side, they stabbed countless silver needles into his body. He wanted to open his eyes to see who was so cruel and merciless, but his eyelids felt as heavy as a thousand pounds and he could not open them no matter how he struggled.

The only thing that is certain is that from beginning to end, there was someone next to Jiang Jingyun, who was holding his hand gently.

Feeling the warmth coming from his palms and accompanied by the familiar breath, Jiang Jingyun allowed himself to fall asleep peacefully.

When he opened his eyes again, he found himself lying in the house he was temporarily staying in in the city. There was a person lying beside the bed. Even though he was asleep, he was still holding his hand tightly.

With a slight movement of his fingers, the man woke up immediately, looking haggard and with bloodshot eyes. His voice was hoarse from just waking up, and he couldn't help but feel surprised: "You're awake, how do you feel?"

"I'm fine. I feel much better after waking up." Jiang Jingyun opened his mouth, but found that his voice was extremely hoarse.

He raised his hand and gently touched Jiang Jingyun's forehead. Seeing that there was no fever again, Xiao Muyan's tense face relaxed a little, but his heart was still hanging in the air. He said in a gentle voice as if he was protecting a delicate and fragile glass product: "Wait here for a moment, I'll ask the doctor to come and see you, and I'll be back soon." After saying that, he walked out quickly, for fear of delaying a second.

Soon Xiao Muyan came back, and there was another person coming with the doctor.

Seeing that the person finally woke up, Su Yuheng also breathed a sigh of relief: "Thank God, you finally woke up."

"I just slept a little longer. Is it that serious for you two?" Jiang Jingyun said in a hoarse voice and stretched out his hand to let the doctor feel his pulse.

"As for, it has been two days since you came out of the examination room that day." Su Yuheng said exaggeratedly, "The doctor said that if your fever doesn't go down, you might become a fool when you wake up!"

"You're the fool." Jiang Jingyun rolled his eyes. Don't think that just because he just woke up and his mind is still confused, he can't tell that this bad friend is smuggling something.

I learned from Su Yuheng that he didn't fall asleep in the carriage that day due to exhaustion, but fainted and was unconscious. Even when Xiao Muyan carried him into the house after they got home, he didn't react. A doctor was hurriedly called in, but the prescription he prescribed had no effect. What was worse, Jiang Jingyun developed a high fever that night.

Xiao Muyan was extremely anxious and asked around the world for a skilled doctor. Finally, he relied on Su Yuheng's connections to invite a local respected old doctor, who gave him a few injections and successfully brought down his fever.

"The heat of summer and excessive worry led to the high fever convulsion," the doctor with white hair but vigorous spirit added, slowly retracting his hand from taking the pulse and admonishing, "The pulse is fine now. You can take the prescribed medicine for another three days. Eat a light diet and rest well in the next few days."

Jiang Jingyun thanked him politely: "Thank you, doctor, for your trouble."

The old doctor nodded slightly, said nothing more, turned around and left after examining the patient.

Seeing the man walking away, Su Yuheng didn't bother to chat with Jiang Jingyun, and hurriedly followed him, gave the thank-you gift and medical fee he had prepared in the morning, and respectfully sent the doctor back.

Suddenly, there were only two people left in the room.

Jiang Jingyun looked at Xiao Muyan, who was exhausted and had a stubble on his face, and wanted to ask him to go back and rest first, but the other party ignored him and stood still as if his heels were nailed to the ground.

Just as he was about to say a few more words of advice, he saw the man who usually remained calm under pressure, come over with red eyes and hug him tightly.

In the past two days, seeing Jiang Jingyun lying there with a pale face, Xiao Muyan wished he could take his place.

But the reality was that he could only stand aside and watch, feeling nothing but anger at his own powerlessness and endless panic. When I was guarding at night, I didn't dare close my eyes, for fear that the person in front of me would disappear if I wasn't careful.

Only by holding her tightly like this and feeling the warm body in his arms could Xiao Muyan feel what he had lost and regained.

Jiang Jingyun sighed slightly when he saw this.

It was clearly he who was sick, but the one who was trembling with fear was the one holding him. He stopped trying to persuade her and reached out to gently hold her back: Forget it, this is not a young lady's boudoir anyway, you can stay here if you want.

Feeling the response, Xiao Muyan hugged her tighter, almost rubbing her into his body.

Neither of them spoke, they just sat there hugging each other quietly, until the rumbling of their stomachs broke the silence.

Jiang Jingyun's face flushed, he pushed the person away slightly, and said embarrassedly, "I'm hungry." After sleeping for two days, apart from being fed some liquid food, his stomach was full of Chinese medicine. Just now when he woke up, he was already starving.

Xiao Muyan turned his head, smiled softly and let go of his hand, "Lie still, I'll go out and bring you some food."

In this way, Jiang Jingyun was pressed on the bed, eating and lying down to recuperate for several days.

Finally, on the day when the results were announced, I was able to go out and get some fresh air.

Sitting in the teahouse in front of the government office, Jiang Jingyun sipped the tea in his hand and looked at Su Yuheng who was fidgeting beside him with his eyes wandering around. He was a little puzzled: "I saw you having fun a few days ago, and I thought you had let it go. Why are you so nervous now?"

"It's almost time to reveal the key moment regarding my legs and freedom. How can I not be nervous?"

"Pfft..." Every time Jiang Jingyun mentioned this, he couldn't help but want to laugh, and he joked, "Brother Su, legs and feet are valuable, but freedom is more valuable. If it's for the imperial examination, both can be thrown away [1]."

"Your doggerel is good, but for some reason it makes my fists itch." Su Yuheng said while clenching his fists and gritting his teeth.

In order to avoid being beaten, Jiang Jingyun restrained his overly ostentatious smile, pretended to look at the noisy crowd in front of him, and said in a serious tone, "No more talking, the results will be announced in front."

Su Yuheng had already sent literate servants to wait in front of the list, waiting for someone to come and report as soon as the results were announced. After waiting anxiously for a long time, I saw the sweaty attendant squeeze out of the crowd with difficulty, and congratulated him with a smile on his face: "Congratulations, young master, congratulations, young master, you passed the exam!"

"What?!" Su Yuheng asked in disbelief, "I passed the exam?!"

"Passed, ranked 29th!" the servant repeated with a smile, and turned to look at Jiang Jingyun, "Young Master Jiang also passed the exam, ranked second on the list, congratulations, scholar!"

"Second!" Jiang Jingyun's eyes widened, and he immediately turned around to confirm with Xiao Muyan, "Brother Xiao, did I hear correctly?"

Xiao Muyan smiled and said gently, "Yes, it is indeed the second place. Congratulations, Scholar."

Before he finished speaking, a warm body fell into his arms, and Jiang Jingyun's excited voice was in his ears: "Ahhh... I passed, I passed!! And I got second place!"

Xiao Muyan couldn't help but chuckle. Originally, seeing Jiang Jingyun's calm appearance, he thought that he was either confident that he would pass the exam, or that he didn't care about the result at all.

I didn't expect they were all pretending. Their true colors were revealed as soon as they heard the news.

However, he looks more energetic like this.

"Let's go celebrate. I'll treat you. We won't go home until we're drunk tonight!" Su Yuheng suggested. Although he had recovered, his words were still full of excitement.

"No." Before Jiang Jingyun could agree, Xiao Muyan rejected him, "He is not well yet, so he can't drink."

Su Yuheng looked at the disappointed Xiao Muyan, then looked at Jiang Jingyun who was sitting next to him, and signaled with his eyes that he should handle it himself.

Unexpectedly, Jiang Jingyun glanced at Xiao Muyan, who was serious and determined not to give in, and he backed down first: "Hey... Brother Xiao is right, drinking is harmful to the body, let's just have a meal to celebrate, forget about the wine..."

Su Yuheng looked at the person hiding behind Xiao Muyan, snorted coldly "traitor", and walked out with a flick of his sleeves.

"Hey... I was just making a reasonable and careful choice out of consideration for our health... How did it rise to the level of treason..." Jiang Jingyun chased after him unconvinced.

The two quarreled for a while, but finally decided to find a restaurant to celebrate with good food and drinks.

After eating and drinking, Su Yuheng put down the teacup in his hand and sighed, "This famous Zhuangyuanlou tastes very ordinary, not even as good as yours."

Jiang Jingyun glanced at the almost empty dishes in front of him and said with contempt: "I always hear you complain, but I never see you eat less." If others didn't know that Su Yuheng was a rich and noble son, they would think he was a homeless person who had been hungry for several days.

"Tsk, I don't waste food."

"I think you are the reincarnation of a pig spirit," Jiang Jingyun continued to speak bluntly, "But you are right about one thing. The taste is indeed not as good as my house."

"Hmph, I'm magnanimous and won't bother with you." Su Yuheng snorted and gave him some advice, "Now that we've both passed the imperial examination, we'll definitely go to the provincial academy to study. Otherwise, why don't you come to the provincial capital and open a branch?"

"Hmm..." The housing prices in the capital city must be more expensive, and a large place means that there are many different kinds of people, and it is easy to be bullied if you don't have a background. Thinking of this, Jiang Jingyun's eyes turned and he instantly had an idea. He approached Su Yuheng and asked in a servile manner, "I don't think I've asked you yet, what does your family do?"

Su Yuheng rolled his eyes speechlessly, "It's been almost three years. I thought you would never be curious again in your life."

Speaking of Su Yuheng, his father is a county magistrate, and his third uncle is the co-magistrate of the prefectural city. The house they are living in now belongs to his third uncle. Even in the capital, there are distant uncles who are officials in the court. It is no exaggeration to say that they come from a family of officials.

Hearing this, Jiang Jingyun's pupils trembled slightly, and his mouth opened unconsciously: Oh my god, I really don't know until I ask, and I'll be shocked when I ask. It turns out that Su Yuheng has such a strong background, and he doesn't seem to exude any "bastard" aura on a normal day.

He servilely poured a cup of tea for Su Yuheng and handed it to him respectfully, "Alas, I really didn't recognize a great man and neglected Master Su. I hope you will not bear grudges and forgive me..."

"Hmph, don't try to play tricks on me. I don't know you." Su Yuheng took the tea with a humph, curled his lips slightly, and looked smug. "What bad idea do you have in mind? Just tell me directly."

"Hehe... Brother Su is really a man of great generosity," Jiang Jingyun rubbed his hands and smiled slyly, "I wonder if Brother Su is interested in joining our restaurant..."
