2 Chapter 2
Messiah stumbled into the crowd. After losing his body's instincts and relying solely on his own consciousness to control it, his movements became crooked and his limbs seemed to have their own consciousness, completely out of Messiah's control.
The people in the metropolis, who experienced alien invasions from time to time, were already accustomed to monsters and demons. They were not frightened by the Messiah's distorted posture like an unearthed zombie. Instead, they took the initiative to step forward and care about him because the Messiah was the person saved by Superman.
"Kid, are you okay?"
A white-haired old woman walked up to Messiah and looked at him worriedly: "Would you like to sit on the bench for a while?"
The people of Tomorrow City have the most powerful guardian on earth. Even when they encountered an alien invasion, they did not suffer much harm with the help of Superman and Superman's friend Lex Luthor.
Metropolitan people are generally warm and cheerful. They are like the sun shining on the city, willing to lend a helping hand to others.
A strong man came over, showing off his sturdy arms, and said softly in a low voice, "Shall I help you over?"
"Are you suffering from hypoglycemia?" A white-collar lady quickly opened her bag and pulled out a bar of chocolate, handing it over. "Want some chocolate?"
Messiah was caught in the middle of a group of people and shook his head helplessly: "I'm fine."
"unnecessary."
"no."
Messiah rejected their kindness one by one. When he met their worried eyes, his already limited language skills became even more stammering: "I, I'm just leaving."
For some reason, his heartbeat suddenly became very fast. Messiah touched his chest in confusion, and those who surrounded Messiah became even more panicked.
"Is it because of heart problems?"
"Kid, do you have a history of heart disease?"
"Do you need me to call an ambulance?"
Messiah shook his head vigorously, his heart beating faster and faster, and his breathing became rapid.
Does he really have a heart disease?
Messiah covered his rapidly beating heart in confusion. Why did his heart become so strange? There was no mention of heart disease in his identity.
With the increasing care, the tips of Messiah's ears turned red, and he seemed to have opened up his Ren and Du meridians. His originally stiff and difficult body movements became smooth. He said "I'm fine, I don't need help", broke free from their hands and ran away quickly.
After running for several kilometers in one breath, Messiah's heartbeat and breathing returned to normal, and he finally stopped.
Messiah stood on a deserted street. He covered his heart, which had returned to normal, and recalled the strange feeling of his accelerated heartbeat just now.
Is this a heart attack? This body has a heart attack?
Messiah looked down at the location of his heart, and gently pressed the fingertips of his right hand against it. If he dug his heart out, would his heart disease be cured?
He doesn't like heart disease; it makes him feel so bad.
At this moment, a white dove flapped its wings and flew by. The sound of its wings hitting the air woke Messiah up. Messiah relaxed his hands that were about to dig into his flesh and dig out his heart, and subconsciously looked up.
Messiah stood there in a daze.
On the transparent glass, a young man with long platinum hair was looking at Messiah.
Messiah looked at his reflection in the transparent glass of the store and subconsciously raised his hand to touch his cheek.
The boy in the reflection had a pair of bright golden eyes, a slender figure and delicate features. He made the same cheek-stroking gesture as Messiah.
Messiah subconsciously approached the transparent glass and touched his face in the reflection with his fingertips, but he only felt cold glass.
He stared at his own reflection in the glass, raised his hand and tugged at his cheek, leaving a large red mark on it. "I... am, like this."
This was the first time Messiah saw his own appearance. His previous knowledge of his appearance only came from a series of explorations in the pure white space, but due to the limited visual range of his eyes, he could not see his own face.
After a while, Messiah looked down at his clothes, wondering if he should take them off and look in the glass to fully grasp his appearance.
Just when the scene was about to be blurred, the shop owner in the glass window also noticed Messiah who had been staying in front of the window for a long time. She opened the door of the shop, and the wind chimes hanging on the door rang out a crisp jingle.
"Want to come in and take a look?" The owner smiled brightly at Messiah, his eyes curved like crescent moons. "I have the best sandwiches in Metropolis—Superboy-approved."
In the photo taken in the store, Superboy, wearing a black leather jacket, is holding a sandwich and making a "yeah" sign with both hands. He has a face very similar to Superman.
Messiah shook his head frantically, "No."
He wanted to leave here immediately, but for some unknown reason he said "next time, when there's a chance", then he lowered his head and left in a hurry.
After breaking away from the enthusiastic people of Metropolis, Messiah finally began his journey of exploring Metropolis. He walked alone on the streets of Metropolis, observing everything around him curiously.
A completely new and unfamiliar existence.
His attention was focused on the pedestrians around him. He unconsciously imitated them and learned and absorbed everything unfamiliar from them.
The way Messiah's muscles exert force has changed. He extracted the most efficient and energy-saving methods from different pedestrians and kept adjusting his movements until they became "perfect" that could no longer be improved.
His movements became light and nimble, and the sound of his footsteps was almost inaudible. It was impossible to tell that just a few minutes ago, he was stumbling because he couldn't control his body skillfully.
After observing enough humans, Messiah's perspective on the surroundings changed unconsciously. He looked down at the crowd and himself walking among the crowd, his consciousness seemed to have been pulled out of his body.
He began to place himself in a dimension detached from reality and judge human existence from a third perspective.
Humans, his so-called kin.
Messiah looked at the metropolis and humanity with cold rationality. The aura around him gradually faded away. He did not realize that he had placed himself above humanity.
Until a bright red spot caught Messiah's attention, and a red balloon with an S logo printed on it floated in front of Messiah, awakening him from that special state of dissociation.
Messiah subconsciously reached out and grabbed the balloon's rope. He blinked slowly, looked up at the balloon floating above his head, and the cold air in his eyes instantly dissipated.
He had seen the "S" logo on Superman's chest.
Messiah stretched out a finger and poked the Superman logo on the balloon, and a childish voice sounded in his ear.
"Big brother, thank you for helping me catch the balloon."
The little girl's eyes sparkled with longing. She grinned at the Messiah, her missing front teeth prominently visible. "Can I have the balloon back?"
Messiah was stunned. The little girl carefully observed Messiah's expression and quickly added, "If big brother likes it, you can keep it yourself."
Although she said this, the little girl's expression gradually became aggrieved.
Messiah thought about it seriously for a while and was really considering whether to keep the balloon.
The empty-headed Messiah simply understood the little girl's words literally. His understanding of the world was severely limited. He could not see the little girl's tears, nor could he hear the grievance in her words. He almost bullied the child.
Messiah finally shook his head, put the balloon string back into the little girl's palm, and said seriously, "I won't stay."
The little girl's expression instantly became joyful. She said "thank you" sweetly, took out a lollipop from her pocket and reluctantly gave it to Messiah.
"Big brother, now that you don't have Superman balloons or lollipops, I hope you can be happy—"
No one knew what the little girl was thinking. She said this with great earnestness, patted Messiah's arm seriously, and ran away proudly as if she had accomplished an important mission.
Messiah clenched the candy in his hand.
Perhaps because of the balloon, Messiah looked at the little girl's energetic back and remembered Superman's words, "Life is precious, you must cherish it."
Messiah felt as if he understood something, but also as if he understood nothing.
At this moment, Messiah suddenly heard a hoarse cry of "Help".
"Superman, help!"
Messiah captures the key word “superman.”
Perhaps because Superman was the first person he had ever come into contact with, Messiah inexplicably developed some kind of embryonic complex towards Superman. He had been consciously paying attention to everything related to Superman. He subconsciously looked towards the source of the voice.
A figure fell from the glass building. It was a high-altitude glass cleaner. His safety rope suddenly broke while he was cleaning the glass.
Messiah's heart moved.
The game panel will show tasks at the right time:
[Breaking Event: Person Falling from Building]
[There is a worker who has fallen and his life is in danger. Do you want to save him? ]
Messiah's hesitation was instantly confirmed. He flew up from the ground, imitating Superman's actions at the time, and caught the falling worker in mid-air.
After rescuing the workers, Messiah slowly floated down to the ground and shook his head a little disappointedly.
The feeling of saving people was not what he had imagined. Apart from satisfying his curiosity, he did not get any new experience from it.
but……
Messiah suddenly realized that perhaps this worker could answer the questions Superman brought to him.
The game panel reappeared at the right time:
[Side Quest: Find the Answer]
Why is life precious? Why should we cherish life? Superman's words confuse you.
Messiah glanced at the triggered side quest, then looked down at the worker he had rescued and asked, "Why..." should we cherish our lives?
The moment he saw the workers, Messiah's words stopped abruptly.
The worker's face was filled with pain, his eyes were wide open and pale, with blood oozing from his mouth and nose.
At the moment the worker was caught by Messiah, he actually fell heavily on Messiah. He suffered a severe impact without any buffer, and his internal organs were almost shattered.
Messiah was stunned. Looking at the worker whose breath was gradually getting weaker, he felt like he was facing a fragile object that would break at the slightest touch.
...so fragile?
Messiah blinked in confusion. He hadn't even asked his question yet...
The next second, the blood flowing from the worker's mouth and nose flowed back, his broken arm returned to normal, and his dilated pupils condensed again.
It was as if time had flown back for him, and the worker returned to his pre-fall state, his body intact and with no memory of the violent impact, as if the Messiah had safely rescued him in the first place.
The Messiah refused the workers' death, so he restored their lives to normal as if he had mastered the ability to fly.
He didn't realize how special he was because everything that happened in the game was normal.
"Wow, you saved me!" The worker excitedly thanked Messiah, completely forgetting his near-death experience. "Are you the new superhero? Thank you! If it weren't for you, I would have died."
"Do you know Superman? If you were to join the Justice League, I would definitely send a letter to the Hall of Justice to support you! Are you hungry? I'll buy you something to eat."
The worker rubbed his hands. He didn't know how to thank the Messiah. Verbal thanks were too superficial, but he also didn't know what a superhero needed.
Messiah shook his head calmly. He did not care about the workers' gratitude and enthusiasm. He just wanted the workers to help him solve his doubts.
The next second, Messiah suddenly stopped.
Superman fell from the sky, the sun shone heavily on his body, and his red cape fluttered behind him.
The god of the world fell lightly to the ground.
"I didn't expect that seeing you again would come so soon." Superman smiled at Messiah, "Hello again, kid."
