27 · Chapter 27
Messiah recalled his memories of that time and shook his head regretfully. He had no recollection of it at all.
After destroying a world, who would bother to remember how many people they killed?
The smell of gunpowder spread instantly in the air.
Batman's aura dropped even lower, and his eyes hidden under the mask narrowed slightly, and he was about to jump up and subdue the Messiah in the next second.
But after catching a glimpse of Messiah's childish face and Jason's nervous expression, Batman remembered the mother and daughter they rescued, and the pearl necklace he had returned to its original owner, and chose to continue talking to Messiah.
He wanted to understand the Messiah's psychology and find out why a child could kill so many people without batting an eyelid.
"Reckless and unrestrained." Batman pursed his lips and uttered a few words, "But you don't enjoy it."
"Tell me why."
Was it because he used the wrong method to protect others, or was it because he wanted to kill people from the bottom of his heart?
Batman stared at the Messiah, the child's pale and tender face was full of confusion, looking soft and harmless.
Just looking at his appearance, no one would have guessed that just a few minutes ago, he had calmly crushed several people into dust.
Messiah blinked slowly. "Does killing require a reason...?"
He thought for a second and answered Batman's question very honestly: "I'm bringing them relief."
Free those who have been stained by filth from endless suffering.
Looking at the big bat that seemed to have become even darker, Messiah didn't understand why Batman looked even angrier. He had clearly answered Batman's questions truthfully.
Distorted thoughts.
Batman observed Messiah's expression and found that Messiah did not show any sign of lying.
...He really regarded "killing" as a way to be liberated.
Why? Batman wondered, was it because someone had discovered the child's abilities and deliberately distorted his thoughts, or was there some other reason?
Whatever the answer, Batman knew what he had to do now.
A child with great power and twisted thoughts, without a formed outlook on life and self-control, often causes far more harm to the world than an adult. He must stop the Messiah.
Whether it was guidance or restriction, he had to take these two children away.
Batman raised his hand without warning, and the instant compressed hypnotic spray also spread out at the same time, and a needle of blue potion was directly inserted into the back of Messiah's neck.
Jason's eyes were dazed for a moment, and his hand holding the crowbar slowly loosened. He fell to the ground with a bang, but was caught by Batman who was prepared.
Batman deliberately reduced the concentration of the hypnotic spray to prevent the high concentration of hypnotic spray from damaging the brain of Jason, who was just an ordinary child. The blue potion injected into Messiah's neck was an anesthetic specifically for Messiah.
He didn't want to hurt Messiah and Jason, who were just children, so he deliberately used a harmless anesthesia method.
Messiah couldn't help but open his eyes wide. Jason's sudden fall shocked him. He pursed his lips and snatched Jason back from Batman with a syringe stuck in his neck.
The potion hadn't taken effect. Batman felt the emptiness in his arms and stared back at Messiah in silence.
Messiah hugged Jason tightly, and there was resistance in his eyes when he looked at Batman.
"You hurt your brother," Messiah whispered. "Why?"
Messiah didn't know what anesthetics were, and those anesthetic drugs had no effect on him, so he naturally didn't know that Jason was just temporarily unconscious.
He thought Batman was Gotham's hero and would protect Gotham, but Batman hurt Jason.
Messiah listened to Jason's slowing heartbeat and tightened his embrace again. There was a hint of aggression in his eyes as he looked at Batman.
Even the Messiah himself was not aware of this aggressiveness.
Batman didn't say anything. When he saw that Messiah's first reaction was to protect Jason, his frown actually relaxed a little.
Looking at Messiah who was looking at him like a wounded little wolf, Batman opened his mouth, ready to explain the meaning of "anesthesia" to the illiterate little Messiah and let her know that Jason was fine.
Batman was a little more patient with children, and since the potion cocktail wasn't working, he had to calm the Messiah down.
"He just fell asleep." Batman tried to say it gently, but the pitch-black mask and the oppressive bat suit weakened his gentleness, making him look like a villain who was deceiving children.
At least that’s what the Messiah thought.
"Liar." Messiah tightened his soft face, "You are a big liar."
Batman hurt Jason and lied to him that Jason was sleeping. He is a big liar like Superman.
Without Messiah noticing, a warm and holy power flowed through his arms into Jason's body, silently removing the effects of the anesthetic and eliminating the developmental deficiencies left over from malnutrition.
The power silently healed Jason's body and then disappeared silently, and Messiah was unaware of the whole process.
In the Messiah's cognition, he could only destroy, not save, and he was completely unaware that his ability, driven by a strong desire, healed Jason.
The Messiah nestled Jason against his broad…narrow chest and raised his hand to Batman.
"You are a hero," Messiah whispered, "so I will bring you relief."
He knew that Batman was the hero who protected Gotham. In the last world, when Superman sent people to massacre Gotham, he had heard Batman's screams.
Rather than letting Batman become the supreme leader of the previous world, or encounter that painful experience again, it is better for him to bring relief to Batman.
Warm and holy golden light bloomed in the Messiah's hands. Batman's face changed, but the golden light covered his body the next second.
Batman's long-furrowed brow relaxed, and he couldn't help but reveal a bright smile. Martha, Thomas, Alfred, Dick...
But the next second, the protective device set up in Batman's brain was triggered, and Zuen's personality briefly emerged. Those painful and dark memories turned into a bat, impacting the warm and holy power.
Batman's willpower, far superior to others, allowed him to briefly wake up from the comfort of the golden light.
Pain and tranquility kept alternating on Batman's face. Batman looked at the Messiah: "You..."
Messiah subconsciously opened his eyes wide. This was the first time he had encountered such a situation, the first time someone woke up from his "liberation".
Even Batman from the previous world couldn't do it.
But the willpower of ordinary people was only shaken for a few seconds before returning to silence again.
Jason moved his fingers and opened his eyes drowsily. He seemed to have had a very long dream, in which something particularly warm was guarding him.
"Messiah." Jason rubbed his eyes, thinking he was still in bed. "Good morning...huh???"
When Jason saw the golden Batman, he thought he was still dreaming and couldn't help but screamed, "What the hell?!"
"No way, no way, do I admire Batman so much?" Jason questioned his life. "I admire him so much that I deify him in my dreams?"
"What is this, Bat God...Should I call Hallelujah?"
Hearing Jason's complaints, Messiah's hand trembled and the golden light was unexpectedly cut off.
May God forgive his brother's disrespect. Messiah subconsciously thought that his brother was still young, he was still a child, and it was not intentional.
"Brother..." Messiah reminded quietly, "This is not a dream."
Jason breathed a sigh of relief. "I'm glad it wasn't a dream. I told you I wasn't that adoring... Wait?!"
"It's not a dream??"
The remaining influence of the warm power that had been protecting him in his dreams completely dissipated, and Jason instantly broke away from his unguarded state and returned to reality.
Jason quickly realized what was going on. His expression was as complicated as an overturned paint palette, a mixture of vigilance, embarrassment, and anger.
He swooped out of Messiah's arms, pointed his gun at Batman, and nervously checked Messiah's body: "Did Batman bully you? Are you hurt anywhere?"
Messiah shook his head vigorously and said softly, "No."
Just looking at Messiah's well-behaved appearance now, who would have thought that the person who almost killed Batman just now was him.
The filter blinded Jason's eyes. He looked at Batman indignantly and said angrily, "Damn Batman, I didn't expect you to be this kind of person. Bullying children, shameless!"
Batman feels wronged, but he doesn't say it.
He finally recovered from his exhausted state, looked at Jason with an indescribable expression, and then looked at Messiah with a very complicated expression.
After experiencing the feeling of being completely melted in the golden light, Batman finally understood what the Messiah's "liberation" meant, and his vigilance and fear increased to the strongest level ever.
But beyond this, there is a complex emotion swirling around Batman.
Batman looked at Messiah deeply and quickly finished the explanation he hadn't been able to say before: "I have no intention of hurting you. The anesthetic dose used on your brother is the lowest concentration. He will wake up when the effect wears off."
"Like now," Batman added.
Messiah's head was almost buried in the ground, and the hair on his head also drooped: "I'm sorry..."
Jason looked at the Messiah, then at Batman, finally realizing something seemed to have happened that he was unaware of.
Thinking back to the scene he saw when he woke up, Jason remembered that Messiah also wrapped those scums in golden light when he killed them, and his jaw almost dropped.
"Is that what I thought?" Jason tried to lower his voice so that Batman wouldn't hear their conversation. "You almost killed Batman...?"
Messiah lowered his head even lower. He began to miss the scarf ball and wondered why it was not on his head now.
Jason frantically retracted the gun that was pointed at Batman, tried to tuck the Messiah behind him, and faced Batman head-on.
"Well... you know, he's still a child?" Jason's eyes wandered. "He's never been to school. He was a little idiot before, so we didn't mean it!"
Batman stared at Jason and Messiah in silence, feeling as if their identities had been switched.
He was the one who almost got taken out, but now it looks like he's just picking on a kid.
Jason closed his eyes and yelled, "Catch me if you want. I'm the one who should be in Arkham. My brother did this to protect me."
"No, it's me!" Messiah raised his head hastily and blocked Jason behind him. "Don't catch my brother, catch me."
The two men blocked each other, repeating the previous scene, but this time under Jason's deliberate operation, they kept retreating away from Batman.
Until they retreated to the corner of the tent, Jason unzipped the tent - he had left it there on purpose when he set up the tent, and ran away with Messiah.
You didn't expect this to be my escape route.
Jason hummed inwardly.
Batman looked at the empty tent and tucked his cape together in loneliness.
