56 · Chapter 56

"Ahhhh, I'm going to be late!"

At the dining table, Messiah was still slowly cutting the fried eggs when there was a clanging sound on the stairs and Jason tumbled down the stairs.

Alfred raised an eyebrow, "Good morning, Master Jason."

"Good morning, Alfred." Jason nodded to Alfred, picked up a sandwich from the table and put it in his mouth, then stuffed another sandwich into Messiah's mouth, grabbed Messiah and rushed out, "Let's go--"

Messiah was dragged along by Jason like a kite. He took out the sandwich he had stuffed in his mouth and calmly gulped down the fried egg. "No rush. Your first class today is literature, and the teacher is very easy to talk to."

"I'm in a hurry because of literature class. I don't want to embarrass myself in front of my favorite teacher."

Messiah's eyes lit up with a smile. How could he not know that Jason's favorite class was literature?

"Alright, alright." Messiah grabbed Jason's arm with his backhand. "Let's go."

The next second, a feeling of weightlessness came over him. Jason skillfully let go of Messiah's hand, jumped off the branches of the school grove, waved to Messiah, and ran away quickly.

"Good morning, Messiah."

Messiah had just sat down when he heard his tablemate Tim Drake excitedly tell him, "Did you know, Batman and Robin defeated the Joker last night!"

Of course I know.

Messiah answered in his heart, Robin was almost late for school just now, and I also know that you were following Batman and Robin and taking pictures of them last night.

——After Dick left Gotham to go solo three years ago, he handed the title of Robin to Jason, and Jason changed from Blue Jay to the current second-generation Robin.

Messiah Todd Wayne, 12 years old this year, has a troublesome older brother who ran away from home three years ago and has rarely returned home since then. He also has a troublesome biological brother who has recently been arguing with his father.

And his father, the only one who can make him worry-free, has recently appeared to have entered the rebellious period of middle age. After driving away his eldest son, he is about to drive away his second son.

Tim wanted to say something else, but when he met Messiah's golden eyes that seemed to see through everything, he gave up pretending.

"Okay, okay." Tim smiled at Messiah, regretfully giving up the idea of continuing to talk to Messiah. He winked at Messiah and said, "Then I'll go back to sleep... Can you look after the teacher for me, deskmate?"

Messiah nodded without saying anything more.

So, why isn't the Messiah sleepy? Tim lay on the table, sleepiness soon coming over him. He thought drowsily that he only followed Batman and Robin on night patrol every now and then, and he was still so sleepy.

I heard Robin also...dozes off in class every day...How come Messiah...

Tim's thoughts were interrupted and he soon fell asleep.

Messiah glanced at Tim who was sleeping peacefully. An invisible force silently covered Tim's body, dispelling the coolness in the air and giving him a hint that his teacher would ignore him when he slept.

He and Tim have been desk mates and friends for seven years. Messiah shows enough consideration to those he cares about.

Tim rubbed his arm, the corners of his mouth curled up unconsciously, he mumbled twice and fell into a deeper sleep.

"Okay, students, be quiet."

The teacher's voice rang out at the front of the classroom. Messiah flipped open the small code disguised as a textbook. The legal provisions of the code were covered with dense notes and traces of erasures.

These erased words were written and crossed out, crossed out and written again, which shows the entanglement and hesitation of the owner of the font.

Messiah took out a pen, paused the tip of the pen on the code for a moment, and a hint of hesitation appeared in his eyes.

Memories of last night came flooding back.

"HAHAHAHA, little bats, you are here."

The Joker stood at the edge of the rooftop, his arms open to Batman and Robin, his face filled with twisted malice: "But unfortunately... you're late!"

Robin's eyes were filled with anger. Before Batman could speak, he rushed forward, grabbed the Joker's collar and wrestled with him.

"Robin!"

Batman called out Robin's name in disapproval, with a rebuke in his tone, but with the Joker in front, he chose to subdue the Joker together with Robin first.

There was a bruise on the corner of Robin's mouth caused by the Joker. He spat expressionlessly and spit out the blood foam from his mouth.

The Joker gave Robin a wicked smile, showing off the silver handcuffs on his wrists to Robin: "Oh, poor little bird... you want to kill Uncle Joker, but your Bat-father doesn't agree."

Anger rekindled in Robin's eyes. He ignored Batman's harsh rebuke and stepped forward to ride on the Joker's body, punching him again and again.

The Joker laughed loudly, looking at Robin with eyes full of malice.

"Robin!" Batman snapped. "Follow orders!"

Robin let go of the Joker's collar with a cold face. He watched expressionlessly as Batman punched the Joker and yelled at him to "shut up."

The clown laughed even louder.

Messiah landed lightly on the rooftop. Seeing the scene in front of him, he frowned slightly, and a golden light instantly blocked the clown's mouth.

The clown's laughter stopped abruptly, and he looked at the Messiah who fell from the sky with a gloomy expression, and the malice in his eyes almost solidified.

Messiah ignored the Joker's gaze, lowered his hood, nodded to the stern-faced Robin and Batman, and said simply: "It's over."

"Three bombs, and five members of the Joker Gang," Messiah said calmly. "The Joker left members of the Joker Gang outside two movie theaters and ordered them to shoot any parents of families of three who walked out of the theaters."

The air suddenly froze, and Batman's figure seemed to freeze as well.

Messiah looked at Batman worriedly. Through the bat mask, he saw Batman's gloomy expression, but the gloom was fleeting and was quickly suppressed by the owner of this face.

"Father..." Messiah hesitated, "I have already stopped them."

So, it's not your fault.

Messiah hesitated for a moment, his eyes met the Joker who was grinning wildly, but he still didn't say "It's not your fault". He didn't want to reveal Batman's weakness in front of the Joker.

The Joker, the culprit behind a series of evil deeds.

There was disgust in Messiah's eyes.

Robin's expression turned cold. He raised his hand and suddenly grabbed the Joker's throat, exerting force on his hand: "How dare you! You scum!"

The clown laughed silently. If Messiah hadn't blocked his mouth, the rooftop would probably be filled with the clown's laughter.

"That's enough, Robin!" Batman quickly shook off his emotions and stepped forward to stop Robin's behavior. "I said, follow orders."

Robin punched the Joker hard, without even looking at Batman, and turned away without hesitation.

Batman suppressed the urge to sigh, and with an expressionless face, he controlled the Joker and prepared to take him into the Batmobile.

Messiah looked worriedly in the direction Robin left, and cast a questioning look at Batman, who nodded to Messiah.

"I'm the only one needed here." Batman said simply, "Go."

Messiah breathed a sigh of relief, his disgusted gaze lingered on the Joker for a brief moment, then he turned around and chased after Robin without hesitation.

The Joker watched Messiah chasing after Robin and narrowed his eyes slightly.

A rebellious little bird, a little bird that loves its family...

As the healing wound on the Joker's spine serves as a frantic reminder of Messiah's offense, a sinister plan emerges.

HAHAHAHAHA!

The clown grinned and laughed silently. The little bat and the little bird would like this gift.

"Jason!" Messiah said quickly and urgently, "Are you okay?"

Messiah found Robin in the familiar old place. Robin was sitting on the top of the gargoyle with his knees hugged, looking down at the night view of Empty Gotham with an unclear expression.

This was Jason's favorite gargoyle. They had played here many times, and more than once he and Batman and Nightwing had secretly eaten burgers and junk food here without Alfred's knowledge.

Messiah floated in front of Robin and looked at him worriedly.

Robin moved to the right, making room for Messiah to sit down with him. Messiah sat down, and both of them were stunned.

Messiah moved his arm, which was tightly pressed against Robin's, and couldn't help laughing. Robin's tense face softened, and he soon laughed out loud too.

Robin… no, Jason gradually stopped laughing, but a gentle smile remained on his face. He raised his hand to touch Messiah's cheek and sighed, "You have grown up, Messiah."

Messiah took off his hood and looked Jason in the eye. His golden eyes sparkled with joy. He swung his legs in the air and raised his voice, "We've all grown up."

The gargoyle, which once could easily seat the two of them, was now crowded.

"Yeah, we've all grown up."

Jason's smile disappeared. He looked at Messiah's eyes, intently gazing at him. Finally, under Messiah's gentle gaze, he spoke his heart out: "Messiah, I think B is wrong."

Messiah paused imperceptibly, turned his head to look at Jason, and listened to Jason slowly express his thoughts.

"I think those criminals deserve to die." Even when Jason was talking to Messiah, disgust and anger could not help but show in his voice when he mentioned those criminals. "They escaped again and again, killing so many people, but they didn't pay any price!"

"Why can they still live in this world after killing others? The people they killed lost their lives, and their families suffered, but they only need to be imprisoned to live peacefully!"

Jason's eyes burned with fire, and a surge of emotion flowed through his body. "This is unfair and unjust."

“They deserve to die!”

Messiah was silent, looking into Jason's eyes, fire burning beneath the glacier of those blue eyes.

"I..." Messiah wanted to say what he was thinking, but suddenly got stuck, "I..."

He spoke several times but couldn't express his thoughts.

There was a hint of confusion in Messiah's eyes. He also noticed the problem that Jason was aware of.

"But life is precious. We don't have the right to arbitrarily judge it." Messiah organized his words several times before finally expressing his thoughts. "If we kill those criminals...their families will feel the same pain."

Therefore, the pain flowing in people's hearts has not diminished in the slightest.

A hint of disappointment appeared in Jason's eyes. He knew that Messiah respected Bruce very much and his philosophy was greatly influenced by Bruce.

But he had thought the Messiah would support his idea.

"But," Messiah hadn't finished speaking. Jason's eyes gradually lit up as Messiah spoke, "They did kill someone, and they should pay for it."

Messiah looked at the night scene of Gotham below, and seemed to see the faces of Gotham residents with different expressions: "Especially sinners like the Joker and Scarecrow, who hurt others again and again... without paying the slightest price."

"Maybe, I mean maybe." Messiah's expression was hesitant, and his voice was very soft. "If we kill the Joker and the others, would it be better?"

Will it be better?

Two different ideas collided in Messiah's mind. He looked at Jason confusedly, as if wanting to seek an answer from Jason.

Jason should have firmly told Messiah, "We should kill them," but when he saw Messiah's confused expression, he paused.

He could be held responsible for his own actions, but Messiah was still young…he couldn’t rely on his emotions to influence Messiah’s judgment.

Jason paused, his tone suddenly brightening: "Why don't we go solo?"

The sudden change of topic made Messiah stunned for a moment. He stared at Jason blankly and repeated Jason's words: "Going solo...?"

"Yeah, let's go solo." Jason smiled brightly at Messiah. "Just like that Dickie Bird guy, how about we leave Gotham and find a city that belongs to us alone?"

"It's really annoying to hear B say things like 'follow orders' and 'no' every day." Jason looked up at the dark clouds in the sky. "Although Gotham is our home, as long as we are together, anywhere can be home, right?"

The Messiah actually rarely appears in Gotham. He basically appears in various places on the earth, and even in the Milky Way.

Most of the activities in Gotham are collective actions of the Bat-Family, or to assist Batman and Robin.

So it doesn't matter to him which city he is stationed in.

Messiah looked into Jason's eyes, which were brighter than the stars, and suddenly smiled.

"Okay." Messiah also said cheerfully, "Let's go solo together."

"There are many cities that are suitable. They are all in chaos, but there are no superheroes to protect them."

Messiah named several cities, those chaotic cities without superheroes to protect them, and also the cities where he most often went to rescue others: "We can take our time to look around and choose."

"There's still a lot of time left anyway."

Jason's face showed hope for the future: "Yeah, there's still a lot of time anyway."

"We still have a long, long time to plan for the future."

Messiah nodded with sparkling eyes: "Yes! Plan for the future!"
