Chapter 45 I used to consider you friends

The location is approximately a high-end private club.

As Yu Wan pushed open the door and entered, the people inside the private room were singing passionately, "Will you suddenly appear..."

He was just about to lighten the mood with an interaction when he turned his head and caught a glimpse of the person out of the corner of his eye. He was startled and exclaimed, "Yu... Yu Wan!"

Everyone suddenly fell silent, their slightly burning gazes abruptly shifting, and when they saw who had entered through the door, their faces froze for a few moments.

At that moment, a loud, deafening buzzing sound of electricity rang out.

Their thoughts returned to the present, and everyone glanced at Yu Wan's hands before letting out a half-relief, thinking: Thank goodness, she didn't bring any bricks or similar items.

"What, you're not welcome?"

Yu Wan casually raised her eyebrows. Perhaps it was because the lighting in the private room was a bit dim, but her clear eyes seemed even colder and more aloof.

Everyone's breathing became heavy again.

Among these people, Zhou Qi was the most composed and was the first to react, saying dryly, "Welcome, of course you're welcome." He turned around, slapped the person on the left on the shoulder, and said irritably, "Do you think you can sit in center C? Get out of the way."

"I'm sorry..." The person hurriedly got up and scurried to the corner to sit down and minimize their presence.

Yu Wan glanced indifferently around the private room before walking to the nearest sofa and sitting down, her movements unhurried. She leaned back, crossed her legs in a leisurely manner, and lowered her eyes slightly.

Some people are born with an aura that makes them stand out and impossible to ignore.

For a moment, everyone felt as if they had returned to that day four years ago, in a similar top-tier club. They sat together on one side, while Yu Wan sat diagonally opposite them, vying with each other.

"If you're here to act as intermediaries for Pei Feng, then there's no need to speak." Yu Wan's lips curled slightly, revealing a hint of coldness, her voice indifferent and devoid of emotion.

“We’ve been together for two years, even if we’re just raising a dog, we’d still have some feelings for it, right? Besides, we’re brothers who’ve been through thick and thin together.” Someone said with dissatisfaction, “A small punishment to vent our anger is enough, why go to such extremes?”

"Brothers?" Yu Wan scoffed, raising an eyebrow indifferently. "Him?...And you guys?"

As always, arrogant and overbearing.

Everyone's expression turned extremely ugly upon hearing this.

"Love is a matter between two people, based on mutual consent. What's the point of what you're doing?"

"I used to think you were different from other rich young ladies, but it turns out you all use that evil capitalist system to coerce people. Does having money mean you can do whatever you want? How despicable."

...

"If you don't let Pei Feng go, we can't be friends anymore."

"Okay." Yu Wan nodded, quite casually.

A moment of silence.

"Wait, what did you just say?" The anxious voice became somewhat shrill at the end.

Yu Wan glanced sideways, her smile nonchalant: "I said okay."

She stood up, picked up a bottle of beer, poured herself a full glass, slightly raised her chin, and downed it in one gulp. Her beautiful, fair fingers held the glass, tapping it lightly on the table. Her gaze swept over the room indifferently, her eyes revealing subtle emotions they couldn't decipher.

Then Yu Wan put her hands in her pockets, expressionless, and walked out.

Handsome, arrogant, and ruthless.

No matter how much time has passed, they will always be able to recall this scene.

On the day they graduated from high school, Meng Shen found them and revealed the truth of what had happened. Unfortunately, by the time they regretted it and wanted to find Yu Wan again, she had already boarded a plane to California.

Only then did they realize that Yu Wan's last glance contained so much disappointment and mockery.

Unfortunately, there are no "what ifs" in life.

The memory abruptly ended.

"Tsk tsk..." Meng Shen walked in, holding a cup of hot milk in one hand and a beer in the other, and said in a nonchalant manner, "Why are you all so reserved? Let's sing and drink."

He glanced at Yu Wan, who was sitting at the very edge, and felt a pang in his heart. He suddenly realized that arranging this was rather unfair of him. He walked straight over, plopped down next to her to shield her from everyone's gaze, and handed her the hot milk.

His protective stance caused the expressions of everyone in the private room to change repeatedly. It was the same back then; after hearing about that incident, Meng Shen immediately transferred to No. 1 High School. At that time, Yu Wan was condemned by everyone and had a terrible reputation, but he still stood by her side without hesitation to help her through the most difficult time.

Yu Wan held the hot milk, her tense body relaxing slightly. Her face, turned to the side, remained expressionless, her brows and eyes cold and aloof.

Zhou Qi forced a smile and echoed, "Isn't this just waiting for you, the prince of love songs, to show off your singing voice? Back then, you conquered the hearts of all the girls in school with just a guitar. Your singing skills haven't deteriorated over the years, have they?"

Meng Shen proudly raised his chin: "Old Zhao, help me find the song that won the campus singing competition. Today, I'll show you common folk what a contemporary singing king is."

"Three cups as punishment for singing off-key..."

The two sang in harmony, and the atmosphere became lively again.

Meng Shen sang three songs in a row before handing the microphone to the others, grabbing a can of beer and opening it up: "We've all been classmates, so I'll drink this first as a sign of respect. After you finish this, apologize where you need to, go through the motions, and then we'll leave."

His tone was still casual, but he exuded a strong and aggressive aura, completely tearing off his mask in public, which was completely different from his usual style.

Not only were Zhou Qi and the others pale-faced, but even Yu Wan looked over in surprise, her fingers tightening subtly as she gripped the cup.

Meng Shen turned around as if sensing something, blinked, and seemed to be asking for credit.

Yu Wan was taken aback.

Slowly, the corners of her mouth curled up slightly.

The knot in my heart vanished without a trace in an instant; something was lightly let go.

Yu Wan suddenly stood up.

Everyone's heart leaped into their throats as they felt that cold, indifferent gaze sweep across their faces.

The atmosphere was incredibly oppressive.

"I really did consider you all friends, but unfortunately I was young and blind back then, and I couldn't judge people well." Yu Wan raised an eyebrow and spoke quietly.

Upon hearing the first sentence, everyone's face gradually turned pale, and upon hearing the second sentence, it turned from white to bluish-purple.

"As for an apology, that's unnecessary. You guys were completely fooled by that bastard surnamed Pei, it's quite pathetic."

In the dead silence, Meng Shen couldn't help but burst out laughing.

"Does this mean I've arrived at the wrong time?"

Suddenly, the door to the private room opened again, and everyone's expression changed upon seeing who had entered.

"Pei Pei Pei Feng, how is it you?" someone exclaimed in surprise.

Pei Feng has fair skin and the currently popular "cute and sassy" puppy-like appearance. He seemed to have arrived in a hurry, his forehead was damp with sweat, and he had a violin slung over his back.

Pei Feng turned his gaze to Yu Wan, his tone familiar and natural: "Wanwan, it's been a long time."

A heavy and oppressive atmosphere spread instantly.
