Chapter 87 A Bet on Reputation

Yu Wan remained silent for several seconds, then slightly raised the corners of her lips: "Thank you."

Yan Ge narrowed her eyes and muttered under her breath, "Damn, those people are absolutely disgusting. They have nothing better to do than spout nonsense all day long. If they're so capable, why don't they fight me in real life?" Her words were quite slick and outspoken, a stark contrast to her usual gentle and composed demeanor.

Many students passing by were startled, including Yao Ting, whose beautiful eyes almost widened in surprise: "Yan... Yan classmate?"

Yan Ge smiled sweetly, once again embodying the goddess image in everyone's eyes.

The speed at which he changed his expression was truly astounding.

"Yu, why don't you seem angry at all?" Drummer Lin Wan asked cautiously.

Everyone looked over in confusion.

Yu Wan shrugged indifferently: "Why be angry? Because of a bunch of barking dogs?"

Everyone was stunned for a moment, then couldn't help but laugh.

Soon after, she made another surprising statement: "The final exams are in two weeks. Instead of wasting time on that, you might as well study properly."

Everyone: "..."

Am I hallucinating?

The words "study hard" were actually spoken by a student who consistently ranked last in the entire school? The expressions on everyone's faces became even more subtle. If it weren't for her usual nonchalant expression, they would almost believe that the school bully was finally going to study hard and improve every day.

Yu Wan raised an eyebrow slightly: "Otherwise, how do you think I maintained my position as the last in the entire grade?"

That serious tone didn't sound like a joke.

Everyone was bewildered.

Does being last in the rankings require even more effort to maintain?

They don't understand the world of underachievers.

"laugh……"

Wu Pinglan, who happened to be passing by, overheard these words and felt utterly contemptuous. Yu Wanzhen truly lived up to her reputation as a hopeless case; if it weren't for her wealthy father, she would have been expelled from Jiangda University long ago.

Back in the office, she saw that the Dean of Academic Affairs hadn't left work yet. She approached him in her high heels and said indignantly, "Director, I just came back from the School of Economics and Management. Guess what I heard?"

Liu Xiong stopped what he was doing and looked at her with a smile: "What?"

“It’s that Yu Wan again.” Wu Pinglan frowned, her disgust evident on her face. “As a student, she doesn’t study properly and only thinks about getting the lowest score. She sets a terrible example, and the school should take this seriously. For example, they should formulate some mandatory measures for academic underachievers.”

What she really wanted to say was expulsion. Wu Pinglan had always been a top student during her school years, and she got into Jiangda University as a teacher based on her own abilities. She looked down on those rich kids who didn't strive for success.

Liu Xiong was quite satisfied with his new teacher; her teaching methods were innovative and well-received by both teachers and students. However, because of her youth, she was also too emotional, as evidenced by her previous remarks about single-parent families.

He thought for a moment and decided to give him a talking-to: "Teacher Wu, as teachers, we cannot give up on any student, and we should not label students. Although Yu's academic performance is poor, he is very talented in other areas, as evidenced by his performance in the 3T Challenge."

Wu Pinglan curled her lip, unable to hide her disdain, and muttered under her breath, "Maybe it was an invitation that was bought with money, what's there to brag about?"

Liu Xiong couldn't hear her clearly, but seeing her nonchalant attitude, he understood what she was thinking. His expression darkened. "Teacher Wu, you should spend more time caring for your students. Other classes also have counselors."

Wu Pinglan was humiliated, her face turning pale. She retorted, "I was thinking of our School of Economics. If it weren't for those troublemakers like Yu Wan from Class 3 dragging us down, the school's average score would have increased significantly every year."

Zhang Wenkang had just walked in when he heard this, and his temper instantly flared up: "Teacher Wu, watch your mouth! You keep calling me a troublemaker. Don't you have any manners as a teacher? What's wrong with our Class 3? At least we have Wu Min'an, who's ranked first in the whole school. Your Class 7's highest score is ranked eighth in the whole school. What's there to brag about?"

"What's the use of being first in the whole school? It still drags down the college average score." Wu Pinglan put her hands on her hips, completely disregarding the equally young male teacher in front of her, and sneered: "Teacher Zhang is really capable, letting the class's teaching results speak for themselves. When the losing side loses, they'll have to admit their teaching ability is inadequate in front of the national flag."

Zhang Wenkang adjusted his glasses and nodded, saying, "Okay."

The School of Economics has two student counselors, Wu Pinglan and Zhang Wenkang, both of whom arrived a year ago and belong to two different 985 universities in Beijing. When they reported for duty, both counselors from the Class of 2017 had been promoted, so each of them was responsible for five classes. Although some classes had different subjects, they compared class average scores.

Driven by a long-standing feud at school and a desire to protect their personal reputations, both men were fiercely competitive.

Liu Xiong opened his thermos, took a sip of goji berry and red date water, and leaned back in his chair with a smile. It didn't matter who won or lost, as long as the teaching results improved.

No one noticed the student standing outside the office door who had overheard the entire bet. He clenched his fist excitedly and turned to run wildly towards his dormitory.

Yu Wan said goodbye to Yao Ting and the others. After leaving the school, she received a call from an unknown number. The number's location was Liaocheng, and she hung up immediately without thinking. A minute later, the phone rang again; this time it was a text message.
