Chapter 21
The weather is getting hotter and hotter. I found a job that's relatively easy, not far from home, and the salary is decent.
Time to go to work.
Today is the third day, and I feel okay. In the evening, someone called me. It was the shop assistant from the store where I ordered the suit last time. She said the clothes were ready and asked when it would be convenient to deliver them. I said I could do it now, as I'm at home.
They were all very efficient; they arrived in about an hour.
I couldn't wait to open it. It's a dark-colored British style. The fabric and the smoothness of it make you look really handsome in it.
I heard from my mom that you were very picky about clothes when you were little, and you only liked dark colors, which made you look like a very gloomy child. Before the wedding, when we went to try on wedding dresses, the fashion designer recommended all white ones, and you even argued with them at the time.
Why are they all white?
"Because your wife's wedding dress has a rather unique design, we suggest you wear white."
"Does it have to be white? Can't I wear something else?"
"You chose the wedding dress yourself. All the wedding dresses in our store are designed by me personally, and each one is unique... Based on my design concept, it would be best if you wore white."
When I was standing behind the curtain after changing into my wedding dress, I heard you arguing your point. I looked at my wedding dress and thought, white goes with everything, you can wear any color.
"Ms. Qi, are you ready?" a staff member asked.
I nodded, thinking to myself that I would definitely help you persuade the designer, and I would give you the wedding dress I was wearing if you wanted to.
After the curtain was drawn back, your argument stopped. I turned to look at you, wondering how to begin.
But you seemed a little silly at the time. Just as I was about to lift my foot, you yelled, "Don't move!" Your face suddenly turned red, and you turned to the designer and said, "Give me the suit."
We suggest you wear white…
"It has to be white! Hurry up!"
The designer smiled, revealing his teeth.
You hurriedly took the clothes, said, "Honey, wait for me a moment," and headed to the changing room.
The shop assistant smiled and said, "Your husband is shy, but he seems to really like it."
The designer gestured, and everyone left. Before leaving, the designer said, "This is the most stubborn groom I've ever met in my career, yet he's also so unprincipled. But it's clearly not my design that won him over. Congratulations on your marriage."
"Thanks."
High heels are really uncomfortable. I was standing there wondering when you would come out. This dress needs one last round of minor alterations after I try it on today.
"cough."
I received the signal, turned around to look at you, and okay, I admit it, I... I was a little out of control.
You were wearing a white suit, smiling as you walked towards me, waving your finger in front of my eyes: "Snap out of it."
Even though we've already gotten our marriage certificate, I still really want to propose to you.
"Honey, your eyes are a little lewd."
"nonsense."
Our eyes reflected each other's images. Suddenly, you fell silent, stretched out your arms and hugged me, burying your head in the crook of my neck, and said, "Wife, shall we wear this on our wedding day?"
"Do you want to change into a black suit?"
"No, I'll keep the white ones, so everyone will know we're a couple at a glance, and you can spot me immediately."
"Don't you like dark suits? You can change."
"No change."
"OK."
"Qi Chengheng." For some reason, your tone became serious.
"Um?"
"You look so beautiful today..." It's not like you're the type to start a sentence halfway through. I waited a long time before I heard the rest of your sentence, "...absolutely gorgeous, my bride."
...
I stared at that suit for a long time, then went back to my bedroom to change into the white dress I'd bought that day. I turned on the stereo, and I wanted to dance with you. You taught me how to dance the waltz.
The music changed several times, and the suit lay flat on the sofa. Suddenly, I didn't like it anymore.
Not long after, I changed back into my pajamas, tossed my suit and skirt aside in the living room, went back to my bedroom, and fell asleep in the closet.
