Chapter 24

Chapter 24

The last time I had such a regular life was in college, going to work and coming home.

While cleaning out the fridge, I found a box of ice cream you bought on the very bottom shelf. I checked the date, and it wasn't expired, so I ate it.

It's been a while since I've had this. It's icy cold and refreshing, a summer essential.

The last time we argued was because of ice cream, I think it was last summer. You had a company dinner, and after I got off work, I was at home eating ice cream while playing on my phone. I ate three boxes. To be honest, I was secretly pleased that you didn't yell at me when you got back, if you hadn't found out I hadn't eaten.

"Why aren't you eating? Didn't I tell you to just cook something or order takeout?"

"I'm not hungry, I'll wait for you to come back so we can eat together."

"If you really want to wait for me, don't eat so much ice cream, or your stomach will get upset."

"No, I really was planning to have dinner with you."

"It's already 10 p.m., does that count as dinner?"

Okay, fine, you're just looking for trouble, aren't you?

"So what if I ate? Don't you eat anything when you're socializing?"

"Qi Chengheng! Are you going to be stubborn again?!"

I'm stubborn. You know you didn't come back until 10 pm after socializing, and you couldn't hide the smell of alcohol on you.

That night, we started a cold war. It had been so long since our last argument that I was a little lost when we suddenly started fighting again.

After you finished showering, you ignored me, crawled into bed, and went to sleep.

I hugged my pillow and thought angrily, "You'll be all alone in this empty room!"

Then I went to the guest room... The bed in the guest room was uncomfortable, and I couldn't sleep for half the night.

The next day, when I woke up, you had already gone to work. There was breakfast left for me on the table: a glass of oat milk, a sandwich, and a plate of cut fruit.

When I got home in the evening, it was empty except for that puppy, Jiang Jiang, wagging its tail, just like when I left for work in the morning.

I made myself a cup of instant noodles, but it tasted bland. Normally, I should hug and kiss you to my heart's content, and only after we've finished arguing will we discuss what to have for dinner.

After finishing my noodles, I sat in the guest room with my phone searching: What should I do if I have a fight with my husband?

Other people asked similar questions below, and their answers didn't seem very reliable. I sighed while lying in bed, then got up and asked Jiayi. Jiayi called me right away, and I sneaked under the covers: "Hello? Jiayi."

"You and Jiang Jianian had a fight? Really? You two can actually have a fight?"

"We've been giving each other the cold shoulder for a day, and he's ignoring me."

"Apologize and give him a way out. Couples always make up after a fight in bed."

"I did nothing wrong!"

"..."

He died peacefully without illness.

I fell asleep with my phone in my hand, but was woken up in the middle of the night by the sound of you opening the door. I glanced at my phone and it was 10:47.

I turned over and went back to sleep.

I'm done for, I can't sleep.

I was caught in a tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep no matter what I did. I opened my eyes and stared blankly at the ceiling, then resignedly got up, quietly opened the door, and crept towards the master bedroom.

You don't lock the door when you sleep.

I opened the door and tiptoed inside. Standing in front of the wardrobe, I could see your back as you lay on your side. I thought to myself, why am I getting angry with you? I'm the one who's suffering.

So I went to the other side of the bed, squatted down, and by the light of the night lamp, looked at your sleeping silhouette, raised my hand to brush your hair up, and leaned in to kiss you.

I had just finished kissing you when I saw you open your eyes and stare at me.

"..."

You suddenly reached out and grabbed my arm, dragged me onto the bed, pinned me down, restrained my hands, and kissed me fiercely and roughly.

"...Qi Chengheng...you bastard...wife..."

Okay, okay, I'm a bastard, I'm a bastard, alright?

Arguing is time-consuming, exhausting, and thankless. It's said that a little bickering is good for the relationship, while a big argument is harmful, but there's plenty of fun in life, and arguing is the lowest form of frivolity.
