Chapter 35
The sun was shining brightly outside today, so I got up early to go see the night-blooming cereus. I waited until 1 a.m. last night, but it hadn't changed much, so I went back to sleep.
At nine o'clock, I went out to go to the supermarket to do some shopping.
After we moved here, you would pick me up from get off work one evening every week, and then we would go to the supermarket together.
We have similar tastes; I prefer slightly stronger flavors and spicier food. You like crunchy foods, including but not limited to bitter melon and various vegetables.
How can there be a dish like cold bitter melon salad in this world? I asked you why you like this dish, and you said it's bitter at first, then sweet, with an unforgettable aftertaste. Nonsense, it's not sweet at all after eating it.

I found a secluded spot to grill it for you, a special treat.
"Are wild fish tasty?"
You smile so wide your eyes disappear, lick your lips and say, "Delicious."
At that time, I truly believed it.
Looking back now, I realize I didn't even add salt, so how could it possibly taste good? It must have been incredibly fishy.
...
That night, I recalled your previous recipes and tried making a plate of cold bitter melon salad. I took a bite, and it was quite sweet. You weren't lying to me; it really was sweet.
