I know my sister. I can't keep her. I knew that at the hospital in Weihai, or maybe even longer ago.

Jiang Jianian's departure was a huge blow to her. Such a calm person, yet she wanted to hide a body. I hit her; it was the first time I'd ever been so angry.

After I returned from Weihai, she often didn't answer the phone. That day, after get off work, I went to find her. When I entered the door, I saw that the breakfast was still unfinished on the dining table, and the dishes hadn't even been cleared away. I sighed, cleaned everything up for her, put it in the cupboard, and then called her.

"Little sister, Hengheng."

There was no response; she's probably sleeping again. She's been back for so many days, and she spends most of her time sleeping. She never comes to my place, so I go to her place every day. I thought she was willing to give it another try.

Actually, she didn't want to.

When I entered the bedroom, I shivered; the air conditioning was a bit too cold. There was a bulge by the bed, and when I went over, I found her fast asleep, clutching Jiang Jianian's coat.

I tucked the blanket around her, stroked her hair as usual, and then froze.

She must have slept for too long. I forced a smile and called out, "...Hengheng."

"Little sister, wake up, we're going out to eat with Xinyue today."

"Jiangjiang misses you. Please bring it back. It keeps fighting with my cat."

"Qi Chengheng, don't joke like that with your brother, get up quickly."

"...Little sister... wake up..."

"...younger sister..."

All I could hear was my own trembling voice echoing in the bedroom.

She was sleeping so peacefully and obediently, just like usual, so why wasn't she answering me?

There was a letter she left in the study a long time ago. In it, she said that part of her and Jiang Jianian's assets would be used to support the two elderly people in the Jiang family, and another part would go to my grandparents in the countryside. She also gave me a separate card as a wedding gift. She didn't mention anyone else, only saying at the end: "Brother, please help us visit Mom and Dad more often. Jiangjiang, thank you for your trouble. You are the best brother in the world. Don't be sad."

In fact, she never accepted Jiang Jianian's departure, just as she never went to Jiang Jianian's grave after the funeral.

She was the last to know when Jiang Jianian's body was taken away. I still can't bear to recall what she looked like then. That day, I coaxed her to drink half a bowl of porridge. When she heard that Jiang Jianian had been taken away, she paused, dropped the spoon in her hand into the bowl, and her breathing became slow and almost inaudible. She fell into a deep confusion. Then she turned to look at me—she was just subconsciously looking at the direction from which the sound came. Her pupils could not focus, her eyes were empty and lifeless, and she stared ahead, tears streaming down her face unconsciously.

She didn't make a fuss; she remained as silent as a statue.

For a long time, she was in this state, losing all awareness of the outside world, or rather, she refused to feel her surroundings, rejected everything, and her self-protection mechanism was activated to the extreme.

As the funeral approached, she suddenly started talking, and I almost couldn't hold back my tears.

...

Qi Chengheng has always been a stubborn person. When she first entered university, she was still quite dull. I was always worried that she would be deceived. When she was in junior and senior high school, I worked part-time at a movie theater and recommended many movies to her. I hoped that she would know how unimaginable the experiences and lives in this world are, and that she would not be swayed by someone's shallow and vulgar love words. But I did not expect that she would pursue Jiang Jianian first.

But I see that she's still the same with everyone else, looking a bit silly. Only that guy surnamed Jiang has my sister completely infatuated with him.

They've been married for so many years, and her eyes always seem to overflow with sweetness when she looks at Jiang Jianian. Her face has even gained some weight from Jiang Jianian's care, which makes me a little jealous.

Before the wedding, I talked to Jiang Jianian. He sincerely asked me, "Brother, I like Cheng Heng and I want to marry her. Please don't put pressure on her. I will take care of everything else."

It's like I'm some kind of bad person. My sister likes me, so how could I object? Besides, you've already gotten your marriage certificate. This makes me even angrier.

Our parents passed away early. I am several years older than Qi Chengheng. I have memories of my parents, but she doesn't really have any. After I started boarding school in high school, I was rarely home. At that time, she was only in elementary school and lived with her grandparents. She was so young, yet she was already used to being alone. I feel very guilty towards her.

I often think of her when she was little. Every time I came home for vacation, she would happily hug my neck and softly call me "brother".

Her ashes were buried with Jiang Jianian. I sometimes go to visit them; I miss her very much.

My sister didn't wrong or let anyone down. She just suddenly missed her lover while having breakfast that morning, so she went to find him.

My little sister is the best sister in the world.
