Chapter 6 [06]
Roll King
It's 10 p.m. now, and Luo Qingyue is feeling a little dizzy after drinking some alcohol.
Feeling drowsy, I lay sprawled on the beanbag chair, my neck tilted back, letting my long hair fall naturally.
My eyelids were drooping, and I could barely open them.
Luo Qingyue, clinging to the last shred of consciousness, held up her phone.
Upon seeing the new message notification in her WeChat contacts, she opened her eyes wide and sat up abruptly.
Upon opening the message, I was both surprised and delighted, as the previous two messages had gone unanswered.
Lu Mingxiao's WeChat name is his real name. His profile picture is the handsome silhouette of a black sports car parked by a lake, bathed in the glow of the sunset.
Luo Qingyue rubbed her eyes, checked again and again, and quickly accepted the friend request.
She clicked on Lu Mingxiao's profile picture, intending to view his Moments, but no entry point was displayed.
In other words, Lu Mingxiao has not posted any updates; for him, WeChat is just a chat tool.
No one can see into his life trajectory, which is fair.
Luo Qingyue returned to the chat interface and her fingers flew across the keyboard.
【Crescent Moon】: I was about to give up, but in order to avoid having any regrets, I struggled a little longer.
【Crescent Moon】: Fortunately, the ending was very happy. Thank you for adding me. It wasn't hard work at all.
Lu Mingxiao replied with an "Mm," but Luo Qingyue was reluctant to end the chat and asked again.
【Crescent Moon】: Do you still need the treasured secrets and generous perks?
[Lu Mingxiao]: Do you have connections on dating websites?
【Crescent Moon】: No, it's all made up on the spot. It can be customized according to your preferences.
Lu Mingxiao replied with a string of ellipses.
[Lu Mingxiao]: Go to sleep early.
It's getting late, Lu Mingxiao should rest too.
Luo Qingyue opened the calendar to check the recent holidays, and then returned to the chat interface.
【Crescent Moon】: Okay, that's all for now. I'll send you my greetings again on Dragon Boat Festival.
Luo Qingyue smiled and chose a cute emoji to end the chat.
She couldn't contact him every day; Lu Mingxiao would get annoyed. There was still a week until the Dragon Boat Festival, and just then, her newly bought comic books arrived—two whole boxes, enough to keep her occupied.
Luo Qingyue spent two days at home reading comics, finding it fulfilling and enjoyable.
On the third day, their peaceful life was shattered by devastating news: Luo Hanzhou had returned from his business trip.
Luo Hanzhou is Luo Qingyue's older brother.
Because her parents were busy with company affairs, she was always managed by Luo Hanzhou since she was a child.
Originally, Luo Hanzhou treated her extremely well.
He gives her whatever she wants, fulfills her every request, and cherishes her as if he's afraid she'll fall.
However, all of this became an unattainable dream after her business failed.
Luo Hanzhou is quite stubborn.
He had excellent grades in school and was the kind of person who was both intelligent and hardworking.
Now the president of a well-known game company, even though its daily active user revenue is far ahead of other games in the same category, he still goes live every week to personally promote the company.
Luo Hanzhou looked down on her lazy lifestyle and despised her idleness, but he didn't say it out loud.
That's why, two weeks ago, while having a big meal at the dinner table, he suddenly made the tentative remark, "Let me help you find a job."
What is work? Why does she need to work? Luo Hanzhou is absolutely insane.
Based on Luo Qingyue's understanding, Luo Hanzhou wouldn't have mentioned it casually; he must have had an idea and intended to put it into practice.
Even though she made her refusal clear, knowing he was coming back, she always felt like he was a ticking time bomb, affecting her mood.
After much deliberation, Luo Qingyue decided to adopt a proper attitude, first using good behavior to send this big shot away, and then make the next plan.
The Luo Family Residence is a manor villa located at the foot of Rongshan Mountain.
When Luo Hanzhou arrived home, Luo Qingyue was sitting on the garden swing reading a book.
At two o'clock in the afternoon, the sunlight was so bright that she subconsciously dozed off. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a tall figure getting closer and closer, and forced herself to perk up and straighten her back.
Pretending to ignore it, I turned two pages of the book.
Luo Hanzhou stopped and looked at the book cover she held up: "Making Money: Thirty-Six Strategies for Entrepreneurship".
How strange! The sun rose in the west.
Luo Hanzhou sighed with emotion, a sense of relief welling up within him. With a touch of disbelief, he sat down next to Luo Qingyue.
The swing swayed violently.
Luo Qingyue patted her chest as if she had been startled, and spoke in a deliberately complaining tone.
"Brother, you walk so quietly, it scared me to death."
Luo Hanzhou rested one hand on the edge of the swing chair.
"It's because you were reading too intently, how can you blame it on me?"
Luo Qingyue turned another page of the book.
"I'm quite serious about it. I've been sitting here since seven in the morning, and I'm already on my second book."
Luo Hanzhou glanced at the shelf next to him, where a dozen or so books were stacked, all related to entrepreneurship.
The name sounded familiar. He asked, "Did you take it from my study?"
Having received an affirmative answer, he continued, "Tell me, what triggered your sudden enthusiasm?"
Luo Qingyue held the book in her arms and turned her head to look at him.
“My brother said last time that at the age when we should be striving, how can we choose to lie down and do nothing? That sentence was a real eye-opener for me.”
"I was born into the Luo family, and I should inherit the family's fine qualities, and get up from where I fall."
Starting a business is definitely not as simple as reading a few books and talking about it on paper.
My younger sister tried her hand at running a Western restaurant, and many of her ideas and decisions were incredibly naive.
Ultimately, she still lacked experience. Luo Hanzhou felt that she should go to the grassroots level to gain experience for two or three years before she could rise again.
Luo Qingyue's eyes were clear and transparent, so sincere that no one would disagree with her words.
Seeing her so motivated was rare for Luo Hanzhou, who couldn't bear to dampen her enthusiasm and decided to let her finish reading the book.
"You must be tired after reading for so long."
Luo Hanzhou asked with concern, "Come on, relax, come back to the house with me to open the gifts."
Luo Hanzhou has a habit of buying things for Luo Qingyue and bringing them back whenever he goes on a business trip.
The brother and sister sat on the living room sofa, with a pink gift box placed in the center of the coffee table.
Luo Qingyue tore off a ribbon with a bow of the same color, opened the box, and inside lay a teddy bear.
She pursed her lips; Luo Hanzhou didn't see the elation she had imagined.
"What, you don't like it?" he asked.
"No, I just hope you can come up with something a little more original."
Luo Qingyue bluntly stated, "Last time it was a panda plush toy, and the time before that it was a giraffe plush toy. You gave me plush toys when I was four years old, and you're still giving me plush toys when I'm twenty-four. Can you please stop treating me like a child?"
"Only twenty-four years old, and you already think you're all grown up?"
Seeing Luo Qingyue all smiles as she hugged the teddy bear, Luo Hanzhou's tone softened instantly, "Okay, I'll be more careful next time."
Luo Qingyue changed the subject: "Brother, are you free tomorrow night? I invited a top-notch Japanese chef to our house. We haven't eaten together in a long time."
"Tomorrow night won't work."
Luo Hanzhou refused outright, "I made plans with my college roommate. He's such a busy person, he rarely has time."
Luo Qingyue asked in surprise, "You graduated so many years ago, and you still keep in touch with your roommates."
"There's only one."
Luo Hanzhou said, "He is known as the king of exams in our school. While others play games, he is in the library. While others sleep, he is studying late into the night in the corridor. Being good at studying is just one of his strengths. He excels in all aspects of life, including moral character, intelligence, physical education, aesthetics, and labor. He has won first place in many competitions and has also obtained diving, barista, and yacht driving licenses. By the way, he is also particularly good at time management. His schedule is accurate to the minute."
I heard one of the "Scroll Kings" praising another.
Luo Qingyue felt that her roommate was even more terrifying than her brother: "I bet he doesn't have a girlfriend."
"Indeed not."
Luo Hanzhou replied, "But back in school, quite a few girls liked him, and he rejected them all very decisively. Now he's achieved both fame and fortune, and he's also very clean-living. You don't hear any gossip about him. Maybe he's not interested in love or marriage; his career is what interests him."
Luo Hanzhou rarely praises others, but he gave this roommate a high evaluation.
As he began to speak, Luo Qingyue listened quietly and nodded.
Luo Hanzhou glanced at his watch and stood up without hesitation: "I have to go back to the company. I'll talk to you later."
The next second, he didn't forget to remind her: "When reading, remember to balance work and rest, don't push yourself too hard."
Luo Qingyue was so moved that she sobbed twice, showing her reluctance to part.
"Brother, let me see you out."
Luo Hanzhou's car was a silver Aston Martin.
Luo Qingyue stood at the villa's gate, watching the car speed away: "Brother, I'll miss you."
Once the people and car had completely disappeared from sight, she jumped for joy, as if she had won a battle, and ran back to the garden.
Uncle Li brought over some freshly squeezed pear juice.
Luo Qingyue stretched out her legs, half-lying on the swing, basking in the sunlight as she finished her pear juice, and sent a voice message to Jingxi.
"You'd never guess what I just went through."
Jingxi didn't reply; she must be busy.
Luo Qingyue raised her hand and pushed the stack of boring entrepreneurship books to the ground, then picked up the comic book hidden at the bottom.
At the same time, Luo Hanzhou was waiting for the red light at the intersection.
I reached for the center console and realized I'd forgotten my phone.
Fortunately, we hadn't gone very far when the traffic light turned green, so we turned around and went back.
Luo Hanzhou recalled carefully that he had casually put his phone aside when he sat down on the swing.
Back at the villa, he went straight to the garden, where Luo Qingyue was lying on the swing playing on her phone, about five or six meters away.
His completely carefree and relaxed demeanor was the complete opposite of his serious reading.
That's right, they are indeed balancing work and rest.
Luo Hanzhou was very satisfied. After taking a few more steps forward, he heard her sending a voice message to someone.
"My brother always thought he was very smart, and he never imagined that I would trick him one day. I just brought a few books to pretend, and he actually believed me. What does this prove? My acting skills are already superb. I can win an Oscar next year, and achieve a grand slam in my acting career the year after!"
The ostentatious tone emanating from between the lines filled Luo Hanzhou's ears.
His face turned ashen, and he felt a wave of dizziness before the loud "bang" snapped him back to reality.
Luo Qingyue also heard the sound.
She changed her position to lie on her side, and as she moved her leg, she kicked something.
Just as he was about to trace the origins, he sat up and met Luo Hanzhou's dark eyes.
Luo Hanzhou stood behind the swing, his whole being gloomy and terrifying, as if he wanted to tear her apart.
Luo Qingyue gasped, but pretended to be calm and asked him with a smile, "Brother, why are you back again?"
Luo Hanzhou bent down to pick up the phone that had fallen to the ground, his sneer undisguised.
"Oscars next year, a grand slam the year after, the first Best Actress in the Luo family, that's pretty good. Should I go and pull some strings with the organizing committee and personally present you with this award?"
Life is short, and Luo Qingyue felt a suffocating sense of impending death.
She dared not breathe, her mind was blank, and she had almost lost the strength to think.
Luo Hanzhou's face was ashen. He glanced at the entrepreneurship books scattered on the ground and picked up the comics that Luo Qingyue had spread out on her lap.
On the cover, the words, written in cursive script with pink hearts, read:
The Art of Managing a Husband: 99 Private Nighttime Talks I Can't Tell My Domineering CEO
"It was also found in your study."
Luo Qingyue got off the swing and gave Luo Hanzhou a thumbs up, "Good taste, a good book."
Luo Hanzhou was so angry he laughed, and patted Luo Qingyue on the shoulder.
"While there's still time, do everything you want to do and try everything you want to eat."
Luo Qingyue was all too familiar with this feeling; he must be plotting something with a belly full of wicked schemes.
The next second, Luo Hanzhou tore the comic book to shreds, and a low growl, barely containing his anger, reached my ears.
"Luo Qingyue, your good days are over!!!"

Moon: Heaven is going to destroy me.
