Rebirth

Rebirth

The car drove towards the edge of the downtown area. Yu Xiaowei, who was sitting in the car, turned her head to look at the ever-changing scenery outside the window until it overlapped with the familiar route in her memory.

She is on her way home now.

She didn't know what was happening to Anna, but judging by the punishment, this woman hadn't received enough retribution.

The thought that she might see Anna's innocent face again made her want to vomit. She had disliked Anna since the first time she appeared in their class.

Many scenes emerged in Yu Xiaowei's mind, and Anna's smile was in every scene. Her mask was so firmly stuck that it took some effort to tear off the disguise.

"Miss?"

The driver had called her many times. Yu Xiaowei took a deep breath, quietly released her clenched fist, and smiled gently, "Uncle Liu, what's wrong?"

"We're here, Miss, go back and have a good rest."

Uncle Liu has been with their family for almost ten years and has watched Yu Xiaowei grow up. It was Uncle Liu who went to the police station to pick her up this time.

Yu Xiaowei nodded, got out of the car and closed the door.

When she pushed the door open, she heard a hearty laugh from a woman sitting on the sofa. The woman immediately stopped smiling when she saw her. She saw a young man sitting next to her in a suit and tie. He pretended to take out some information and introduce it, but in fact her hand had already reached into the man's clothes.

She wasn't happy at all to see Yu Xiaowei back. She glanced at her and said sarcastically, "Come out from inside?"

She said this as if she had just been released from prison after several years.

Yu Xiaowei snorted coldly, not willing to be outdone, "What are you talking about? Didn't Auntie just come out too?"

The woman's eyebrows immediately furrowed, anger was revealed on her face, and her bright lips opened and closed several times but she couldn't find the right words. In the end, she could only watch Yu Xiaowei go upstairs.

After the people walked away, she turned around and said what she had not dared to say just now.

"Bah, you're a jerk who was born of a mother but not raised by one, this damn girl!"

The young man didn't dare to say anything, but lowered his brows and waited for the slightly old woman's hands to climb onto his exquisite suit again.

Fan Mingzhu is her father's stepmother. Although she is called a stepmother, she is actually just one of his many "concubines", but she is more powerful now.

She doesn't get along with Fan Mingzhu at all. She looks down on Fan Mingzhu's background in the city. Fan Mingzhu is always thinking about how to whisper in her father's ear and drive her out, saying that she is stupid and she really is not smart at all.

What Yu Xiaowei hated most was women who spent their family's money, wore bright and gorgeous luxury clothes, but had the temperament of a shrew.

I really don't know what his father likes about her?

Could it be that if I fall in love with her, I will cheat on others?

Yu Xiaowei sneered, turned around, took off her clothes, and fell on the bed.

Buzz buzz buzz

My phone vibrated, and when I opened it, it was their pinned group chat.

"Sister Xiaowei, Anna is back to school."

Yu Xiaowei clicked on the picture the other person took of her, zoomed in and saw Anna with her head wrapped in gauze in the crowd.

"Keep an eye on her."

After replying the message, she sank into the quilt and fell into a deep sleep.

When I woke up, my nose was filled with the smell of warm sunshine.

Qiu Yang's little house is nice. There is a window on the south side, which provides plenty of light. When you open the window, you can see the winding terraced fields not far away.

Jiang Li threw back the quilt and got out of bed.

This was the second day since he returned to Qiu Shui Township.

"Boss, are you awake yet?"

Jiang Li looked towards the door. The two people had been waiting in the crack for a long time. Jin Mao pushed He Dou away and said, "I'll do it!"

Jiang Li thought: Do they have to squeeze in such a narrow gap in the door to see if he gets up?

"Did you see it?" Jin Mao wanted to stick his eyes into the door, "I can't see it."

"Look..." The door suddenly opened, and Jin Mao fell to the ground, wishing Jiang Li a happy new year. "Ouch!"

He Dou smiled immediately and said, "Boss, it's time for breakfast."

Jiang Li expressionlessly stepped over the golden mask, took two steps and then stopped. When he raised his eyes, his brown pupils shone coldly, "Don't lie at my door next time."

He Dou nodded awkwardly, showing a standard eight-toothed smile, and watched him leave.

Jin Mao straightened his clothes and stood up straight. Seeing his slightly stiff expression, he said, "What's wrong with you? Why do you look like you've eaten shit?"

He Dou rolled his eyes like a puppet, manually forced a wider smile, slowly shook his head, and denied it: "No."

He got up late, and his breakfast consisted of a boiled egg and a pancake that cost one dollar and fifty cents each. Jiang Li picked up the pancake indifferently, took a bite, put it in his mouth and chewed it twice, then checked it and found it was cold.

It was not only cold, hard, and tasted terrible. He resisted the urge to spit it out and swallowed it down.

When he opened his mouth to take the second bite, his hands protested before him and he put the pancake back on the plate. It seemed that the boiled egg was not much better either.

The breakfast shop downstairs from Chen An's house had a wide variety of options. His favorite was the green rice noodle rolls. Although he had no idea what they were made of, they were smooth and tender, and very appetizing. If they were closed, he could always cook noodles at home. But here, he'd just have a boiled egg and a cold pancake.

For a moment he missed his life in Chen... no, in the city.

Therefore, he closed his eyes helplessly.

"Hey, are you having breakfast?" Nan Jiaxu came back from outside with a happy face.

He couldn't understand. Hadn't this man complained about the remoteness and lack of everything here just three months ago? How come life in the countryside was so good now? Looking at the mud stains on his trouser legs, then at the way he held the hoe, was he going to put down roots here?

"What's with that expression on your face?" Nan Jiaxu put down the hoe and went to the well to fetch a bucket of water to rinse it clean.

Jiang Li said with a forced smile, "Hello, fellow countryman."

Nan Jiaxu instantly understood what he meant and wanted to defend herself, "I'm just trying to help others. If I sow the seeds this season, I can still grow another crop of rice."

He sat down opposite me and said with a grin, "Don't worry, I will never be fooled by this kind of paradise life."

Jiang Li sneered and pointed the finger at him mercilessly. "Three months ago, someone said that this place was a remote and poor place and he didn't want to stay. How come his attitude has changed so quickly?"

Nan Jiaxu laughed and said, "Oh, it's just a change of pace after too much fighting and killing. Maybe I'll find new fun in a few days."

Jiang Li suddenly ordered him to pour a glass of water. As the warm water went down his throat, his mood eased a little. He then talked about business, "The meeting will be held in a few days."

"Yeah." Nan Jiaxu suppressed her smile. "Are you going back?"

"Me?" Jiang Li said, "Why should I go back? It's enough for you to go back."

Nan Jiaxu didn't say much, just nodded and said, "Okay."

"Mrs. Winsery will side with the conservatives. The balance has already tilted towards us. You will not be in danger."

Nan Jiaxu clutched his heart and said exaggeratedly, "That's fine, that's fine. You don't know how nervous I was. I was afraid I'd be implicated if you killed Qian Shiyao. Just hearing your words puts me at ease."

"..." Jiang Li said, "We work for Mr. Shen. He'll take care of everything, so why should we be afraid? Killing a man like Qian Shiyao is the same as killing him, whether we kill one or the whole group. It makes no difference."

His tone was very calm, as if he was talking about something irrelevant.

Nan Jiaxu laughed when he heard this, "So you killed the whole family at once."

"Amazing! You're worthy of being a loyal supporter of the Conservative Party and Mr. Shen's number one killer." Having said that, he still had to applaud.

If it weren't for the admiration in his eyes, Jiang Li would really think he was mocking him.

Jiang Li said, "Where's Qiu Yang?"

"Attend class."

"Attend class?"

"Yeah." Nan Jiaxu seemed quite proud when he spoke of this, his back straightening. "I discovered there were several deaf-mute children in my village, so we teamed up with the neighboring village to set up a primary school. We hired a few university students who knew sign language as teachers, and Yangyang also helped with the classes, mainly for the senior students."

His eyes lit up, and he thought he would receive the same praise as Qiu Yang. But Jiang Li opened his mouth and said, "Do you have a license? Do you have government approval? Do you have safety measures? Then you can open a school."

Nan Jiaxu's raised mouth drooped instantly. "No, why are you always pouring cold water on me?"

Jiang Li was just about to say that he was not pouring cold water on him when his eyes suddenly became brighter, brighter than when he had just explained the "big thing" he had done. He turned his head and found the answer.

Qiu Yang was done with get out of class. The thin boy had several textbooks lying in his arms, and his schoolbag was carried obediently. The moment he saw them, he gave them a sweet smile.

Nan Jiaxu stood up diligently and walked to him, taking out his schoolbag and textbooks. He had practiced sign language very well, and the two of them communicated without any obstacles, which made Jiang Li seem redundant.

Qiu Yang suddenly looked at him, moved his mouth, and uttered two words with some difficulty, "Thank you...thank you."

His cochlear implant surgery was successful, and he could finally hear the world.

Jiang Li said, "No need. You can thank him."

Nan Jiaxu stood at attention like a puppy, waiting for praise. Jiang Li had never felt that he was so dog-like in all these years.

"puff……"

"What are you laughing at?" Nan Jiaxu was confused.

Jiang Li waved his hand and said, "No." He was just amused by the thoughts in his mind.

Qiu Yang didn't know what he said to him, but he was in such a good mood that his tail was wagging so hard that the propellers were about to accelerate and take off.

After Qiu Yang entered the room, Jiang Li asked, "Can't he speak yet?"

"The doctor said that hearing is just the first step. I need to get used to it slowly. Speaking is not very good yet."

Jiang Li nodded, turned around and found that Nan Jiaxu had followed him again.

He was the only one in the courtyard, the scorching sun burning his body and stirring up the restlessness in his heart.

He seemed a little envious of them.

Nan Jiaxu and Qiu Yang are always cheerful together, but why does he always feel constrained when he's with Chen An? Is it really because of their different social status?

"Have you found it?"

Bai Shuo, who was called in early on the first day back to work, said with panda eyes after last night's revelry, "I found it. It's in... Qiushui Township, Lihua Town."
