Rebirth
A roaring sound came from the pipe, and the originally locked main door was now banging loudly. Zheng Tong panicked, "No way! This is so real!"
Her boyfriend seemed even more frightened than she was. He kept dodging back and kept urging her, "Have you found the door? I feel like it's about to break!"
Jiang Li naturally wanted to find it quickly when he heard the noise outside the door, but he really didn't see any useful information on the crystal wall. He turned and looked at Chen An helplessly. Finally, everyone's hope fell on him. After a few minutes, he finally found the exit of the room as expected.
"Underground!" Then he pointed at the table, "Under the table!"
Chu Ping'an and another boy moved the table away and swept away the documents on the ground, revealing a small secret compartment. Jiang Li was still in the lead, followed by Chen An. The moment the lid was closed, they all breathed a sigh of relief.
Jiang Li walked down the ladder, and Zheng Tong got goose bumps as soon as he stepped down. "It's so cold."
This time Jiang Li did not charge forward, but walked to Chen An's side and the two walked side by side.
Having gone through the previous levels, they became bolder and talked as they walked.
Zheng Tong suddenly turned around and spoke to them, "I didn't expect you guys to be so good. Do you play often?"
"No, it's my first time playing."
"You're so impressive on your first try! I admire you." Zheng Tong said with a smile, "Then I'll rely on you to lead us through the next levels."
The two smiled at each other.
Chen An praised: "You are very talented. It shouldn't be difficult for you to study at the police academy."
Jiang Li's eyebrows jumped. "Are you so anxious to draw a conclusion?"
"I'm not anxious. Judging from your performance on the floating island and your insight just now, you are indeed excellent. This is quite objective, isn't it?"
Jiang Li paused, and his father's voice sounded inappropriately in his mind. He seemed to have never acknowledged his excellence, no matter what achievements he had made.
"What are you thinking about?" Chen An nudged him with his elbow.
He came to his senses and said, "Nothing, I was just wondering, if I graduate from the police academy, will I have the opportunity to intern under you?"
Chen An smiled as if he had suddenly realized something and said, "You want to be my apprentice?"
Then, with her arms folded across her chest, she said proudly, "I don't know. I might not be where I am in four years. What if I get promoted and transferred? But since you want to be my apprentice so much, I can teach you privately."
Jiang Li curled his lips, hit the man in the chest with an elbow, and walked forward decisively.
Seeing him reintegrate into their group, Qiu Xiaojing took the initiative to ask, "Jiang Li, what did you see just now?"
"Yeah? What's that zombie tide you're talking about?"
Jiang Li repeated the contents of the crystal wall. "It says that in April 2071, due to the infiltration of a mutant strain into the Eternal Night Star Research Institute, all the test subjects were infected."
"At first, the infected only developed fever and red spots all over their bodies, but after two days, they began to grow fangs, and their faces and bodies underwent varying degrees of mutation. Finally, they began to cannibalize humans, forcing the warp program to be halted. Humanity faced a zombie crisis. This is what is recorded above as the 'Fall of the Eternal Night Star.'"
Zheng Tong sighed, "I didn't expect this story to be so complete. But what good is it for us to know it? Will it help us get out?"
Jiang Li shook his head, "I don't know."
Chen An said: "Keep going, there is always a way out."
The group continued to explore the secret room. It seemed to be a basement, but the temperature was so low that even Jiang Li felt his hands and feet running cold. The corridor was dark and there were no cameras. He suddenly tugged at Chen An's clothes and jokingly said, "Hey, does this look like a morgue?"
Chen An also reacted immediately. The temperature became very low as soon as they got to the ground, and it seemed that it would get lower the further they went in. So this was where the bodies of the mutants were stored.
Jiang Li asked: "Should we continue moving forward?"
Chen An looked back and saw only a wall and no road. "There's no way out. I can only move forward."
"How did you find the exit?" Jiang Li poked him with his index finger, and the two began to chat behind him again.
"Look." Chen An pulled out a tablet from his pocket. "Inside is a paper they jointly published. The content of the paper is the design of the laboratory. At the end, I found a piece of manuscript paper with only a few strokes. After comparison, the pattern on it is exactly the floor tiles."
Jiang Li slid the tablet, smiled and said, "Isn't this considered a violation?"
Chen An shrugged and said as a matter of course: "How could that be? It was placed there just for us to find. I just brought it out."
Jiang Li nodded in agreement, "That makes sense."
"Hey! Hurry up, there is light ahead." Zheng Tong shouted from the front.
A few minutes later, Jiang Li shouted, "Is this the light you were talking about?!"
Zheng Tong ran with them. They took many turns and twists, but they didn't get separated. "I, I don't know! Who knew they would wake up as soon as we went in?"
The NPCs behind them were chasing them closely, a huge group of "people" were chasing them.
Several people ran into the safe passage and climbed the stairs until they felt like dying. Zheng Tong rested with her hands on her hips and glanced back at the NPC behind her. "I wonder why they aren't tired at all! It's just a game, is there any need to take it so seriously? Otherwise, let's negotiate with them! I really can't run any more!"
She fell directly onto the stairs. Peng Yue was also exhausted. Almost everyone stopped moving forward, but the group of "zombies" were still moving towards this side. They had green faces, fangs, and ragged clothes, and they looked quite realistic.
Chu Pingan clutched his heart and said, "I was just touched in the face. It scared me to death!"
Jiang Li observed their movement speed and said, "Let's go quickly. They are coming soon. What if we get caught and put in the dark room?"
"I don't want to. I don't want to be locked up in the small dark room." Yu Xiaowei quickly stood up and followed them.
They climbed up two more floors and stopped only when they heard that there seemed to be no movement below.
"Where is this?" Zheng Tong's worldview had been completely redefined today. A terrifying chamber of secrets still lingered. "This thing looks so advanced. I've only seen it in TV dramas."
In front of him was a glass culture jar. Unlike ordinary jars, this jar seemed to contain something large. Looking at these things, Jiang Li could only think of one possibility.
Chen An found a blank notebook, picked it up, and flipped through it casually, spotting a remarkable page. The display stand was full of everything. He picked up a pencil, and the carbon ink began to appear.
"The tide of corpses is the souls of the dead. —Survivor's Book"
The notebook was passed around among them, and Chen An started to play alone in the wild again.
Jiang Li followed and asked, "What did you think of?"
Chen An did not speak immediately. He looked at the glass culture jars one by one. In addition to the uniform jars in the center, there were glass jars of different sizes on both sides.
"I'm thinking that maybe the warp program was a scam from the beginning."
Jiang Li raised his eyebrows, a faint smile appearing on the corner of his mouth, "Tell me about it."
Chen An turned his head and stood still, one hand in his pocket, leaning lazily against the wall. "The crystal block in the laboratory describes that the outbreak of the zombie tide was caused by the infiltration of a mutant strain into the research institute. Everyone who participated in the test was infected and became like this after being infected. But, I don't think that's the case."
"This plan seems detailed, but it never explains what the outcome will be for those who fail the test. Does it necessarily mean death?"
Jiang Li's smile widened. He continued, "Passing the test to obtain an identity, in modern society, those who fail the test become illegal immigrants." Then he said helplessly, "I can't help it. My occupational disease has kicked in. I think these jars may not contain any specimens but..."
Jiang Li finished what he hadn't said, "Human organs."
"Actually, even if there were a chance to teleport, it wouldn't fall to an ordinary person." Jiang Li folded his arms across his chest and explained with his head down. "In this setting, humanity has reached the end of the world, and the Earth's environment is no longer suitable for human habitation. The teleportation plan was originally created to screen suitable humans to be taken away to continue what the authorities call 'human civilization'. However, they didn't realize that human civilization had already disappeared from the moment the plan was implemented."
Chen An listened to him gently.
"Ordinary people have no advantage in this competition. Only the wealthy, geniuses, scientists, and perhaps a few literary figures will be taken away. Can the Transformation be able to take away all nine billion people? Those who fail the test can be falsely declared dead and have their organs harvested, supplying them to those with admission tickets. These people can be anyone mentioned above, as long as you have money or connections. It may seem like you've traveled through a higher civilization, but in reality, it's no different from the present."
When he said the last sentence, his tone was obviously falling, and you could tell that he was very disappointed.
Drooping eyelids, wandering gaze.
Chen An patted his head and said, "But there are always people in this world who will fight to the death for the rights of ordinary people."
"Jiang Li, a person's character is noble because of his differences." After saying this, he changed the subject and said, "Okay, let's find a clue."
Jiang Li stood in place, his eyes following the tall figure wandering around the laboratory, his heart beating hard and fast in his chest.
