Rebirth
The motorcycle bumped into the village after twists and turns, and the people who had been wandering in the desert for almost two months finally breathed their first breath of fresh air in the countryside.
The passenger in the passenger seat took a deep breath and sighed with satisfaction, "The air in China is still better."
The car ran over a rock that was lying across the center of the car. With a jolt, Jin Mao's head slammed directly into the car window. He cried out in pain, "Can you please help me? I'm dying of the shock!"
After a few days of hard work, He Dou no longer had the energy to argue with him. He looked at him sullenly and said, "If you keep talking nonsense, get out of the car."
Jin Mao immediately made a zipper-tightening motion on his mouth.
The journey was long, and the two men wandered through the desert for several days before finally leaving. The moment the car entered the country, they felt relieved. Then, the fatigue of retreating will overwhelmed them. Neither of them wanted to drive, and dragging their tired bodies to decide who would drive was more important. Passing by a China Petroleum gas station, they played rock-paper-scissors to decide who would drive.
When the car entered Lihua County, it was sunset. The roads in the town were narrow and complicated. They couldn't remember the road they took last time, so they finally had no choice but to call Nan Jiaxu.
After passing the sign for Qiu Shui Township, you will be not far from Qiu Yang's home.
"We're finally here!" Jin Mao stretched his sore body, opened the door and got out of the car.
He Dou stopped after only two steps. He was driving until he fainted. He didn't pay attention to the road and bumped into the back of the person in front of him. "No, why are you stopping here?"
Jin Mao turned around stiffly, looking stunned, and pointed behind him.
Nan Jiaxu was actually washing clothes by the well!
He Dou dropped the luggage in his hands to the ground with a thud, his eyes wide open, "I am not seeing things, the Second Young Master Nan is actually helping people wash clothes!"
Jin Mao suddenly figured something out and snapped his fingers, "I know!"
"What do you know?"
"I was wondering why I felt something was weird the last time I came here. The Second Young Master must have treated Qiu Yang as a brother!" Jin Mao looked up proudly as if he had answered the mystery of the century.
He Dou slapped him on the back of the head and said, "Have you ever seen a desperado befriending a normal person?" Then, he gave him a disdainful look and said, "You're sick!"
There was so much noise here that Nan Jiaxu looked up and saw them. An evil smile naturally appeared on his face. "Dutch pea, golden retriever, come here."
Both of them had a bad feeling at the same time.
Five minutes later, Nan Jiaxu, the supervisor, leaned against the door, eating sunflower seeds and watching them wash clothes.
Jin Mao drew a bucket of well water, his face full of resentment, and muttered: "Why us again? I should have known not to come."
"Hmm?" Nan Jiaxu leaned forward, his ear tilted in anticipation. "What are you talking about?"
Jin Mao immediately put on a flattering smile and said, "No, I didn't say anything."
After rubbing an extremely thick down jacket, He Dou finally couldn't help but said, "Second Young Master, why don't you buy a washing machine?"
Nan Jiaxu pointed inside and said, "I bought it, but Yangyang doesn't allow me to use it because it wastes water and electricity."
This answer was so shocking that He Dou closed his eyes, unable to understand the answer.
Watching the two of them working diligently, Nan Jiaxu looked up at the time. It should be about the same time when Qiu Yang comes back from school. Then he can take credit in front of Yangyang again. The thought of it makes him happy.
Jin Mao didn't dare stop, observing the person near the door frame with his peripheral vision, and whispered, "What the hell is he laughing at?"
"I don't know." He Dou looked hopeless, and the bruises under his eyes made him feel like he was on the verge of fainting.
After eating a handful of sunflower seeds, Nan Jiaxu recalled what Jiang Li had told him and asked, "By the way, what did you gain from this trip?"
"Yes, but not many." He Douqiang said with energy, "We met Mrs. Wensery, but it was obvious that she didn't want to see us."
Nan Jiaxu stopped cracking melon seeds and lowered his eyes, thinking about something.
"The Qian family has fallen." After a moment, he suddenly blurted out.
On the way back, they heard about this incident. They heard that one of Black Hole's industries, Floating Island, was shut down by the Chinese police, and the Qian family, the main operator behind the Floating Island, naturally could not escape.
Jin Mao said, "For something this big, the organization should have notified us to go back."
A sudden gust of wind made Nan Jiaxu squint his eyes. He said, "If Madam Wensery doesn't stand on our side, things will become... troublesome."
He Dou said, "From what I've seen of Madam Wensery's attitude, it seems she doesn't want to be involved in the organization's affairs anymore. Her position doesn't really matter."
Nan Jiaxu looked down at them and said, "The organization is a system of checks and balances. Her departure from the Elders' Council led to the current unfavorable situation for us. Power has fallen into the hands of the Radical Party, and we've already had a hard time under their oppression. If she doesn't show up this time, we'll inevitably be held accountable."
He Dou said, "Then what should we do?"
Nan Jiaxu frowned slightly and did not answer.
As the sun set, Chen An seemed to be nailed to his workstation, unable to move.
Han Ming passed by and slapped him on the shoulder. "Hey, isn't your team free? Why are you still hanging around the city bureau every day?"
Chen An lowered his head and rubbed his temples with his index finger. He wanted to go back.
It was almost eleven o'clock when they returned from the amusement park. On the way, Jiang Li kept his head down and said nothing, his mind full of what Chen An said on the cable car.
After the splendor, there was endless wreckage. In the dark night sky, he heard the calm voice of the person beside him.
"Jiang Li, don't mistake dependence for love."
Jiang Li looked at him stubbornly, tears flickering in her eyes, "Then why are you so nice to me?"
Chen An sighed in his heart and gently brushed his eyes with his fingertips, "Don't cry yet."
Jiang Li slapped his hand away and retorted in disbelief, "Are you kidding me? How could I..." His slightly cool fingers touched some liquid, and he looked at his wet hands in a daze.
"I admit that I was nice to you at first because I saw myself in you. Later, I realized that you were indeed a good kid, so I wanted to help you. Everything I've done so far has not been because of the kind of love you think you have."
"I'm sorry for causing you to misunderstand."
It was too dark and he couldn't see Jiang Li's expression at all. He only remembered that he didn't say a word along the way and had a dull expression.
In the next three days, they spoke very few words to each other. Jiang Li no longer shared her life with him, and their communication was limited to "um", "okay", and "OK".
He knew that he had hurt Jiang Li, and a feeling of guilt enveloped him deeply. These days he had been reflecting on whether he had not paid attention to the boundaries and caused Jiang Li to have such thoughts. He didn't know how to comfort Jiang Li, nor did he know whether he should comfort Jiang Li, so the two of them were in a stalemate.
The atmosphere at home was so strange that he felt it was a terrible thing to go home.
Han Ming leaned on the back of his chair and grinned, "Hey, did something happen to you? Tell us about it, and we can have some fun together. Uh, no, just for reference."
"No." Chen An didn't intend to tell this loudmouth, "I'm fine."
After saying that, he stood up, picked up his coat and prepared to go home. A young police officer ran in at the door, panicking, "Captain Han, Captain Chen, you are all here."
Han Ming stood up straight, his hands in his pockets. "What's wrong? You look so flustered."
"Someone gathered at Mingyang BBQ Restaurant to cause trouble and a fight broke out."
The two looked at each other, and Han Ming raised his eyebrows and said, "Since you don't want to go home, let's go and take a look together?"
The police car drove all the way to the "Mingyang BBQ Restaurant". When the police arrived, several people had bruises on their faces. A woman was hit on the head and bleeding. She squatted in the corner with her head covered. She was taken away by 120 a few minutes later.
Chen An looked around the barbecue restaurant. The couple was sighing in the kitchen. It was a small business to begin with, and they were the ones who suffered the most losses from this incident.
He asked his boss, "Is there any surveillance here?"
The couple said, “Yes.”
Then he copied a surveillance video from the small house and handed it to the police. Chen An asked some other questions, "Do you know these people?"
The woman untied her apron, rolled it up and placed it on the stove, sighing, "I don't know them, but it looks like these people are students." She pointed to the table on the right and said, "They all came together, and they look like college students. The people at that table should be out of work, and they look older than them." She pointed to the seat on the left closest to the door.
"Did you see who started it?"
The woman said, "These college students here seemed to be targeting a woman. The conflict arose very suddenly and they soon came to blows."
The people who had gathered to cause trouble were handcuffed and taken back to the police station. Except for the woman just now, the others only had minor injuries.
After returning to the police station, the parties involved in the incident claimed to be victims.
"Officer, we are the victims! They were the first to attack!"
One person stood up and ten thousand people responded. The city bureau was in turmoil late at night.
Han Ming frowned and shouted, "Be quiet!"
These days it is their team's turn to work the night shift. Working is already annoying, and working the night shift is even more annoying.
"Take separate notes."
The two groups separated, and Chen An saw a familiar face in the crowd.
He followed her. The woman's eyes were bloodshot and she was in a defensive posture.
When the female police officer asked her why she had provoked the conflict, she raised her head and suddenly saw Chen An at the door. Her pupils shrank slightly, and then she asked as if to verify, "Are you a police officer?"
The female police officer also looked at Chen An. Chen An didn't say anything. They were observing each other.
Suddenly, Yu Xiaowei fell to her knees and began to wail, "Please seek justice for Zheng Tong!"
