Chapter 303: The Captain of the Obsidian

Duncan carried Ai on his shoulders and was the first to pass through the big hole and step into the upside-down corridor. The others followed him one after another. This time, Vanna walked at the end of the team to prevent sneak attackers from suddenly appearing.

The team moved cautiously through the corridor, everyone paying attention to the movements around them at all times while carefully observing every structure in the corridor.

After stepping into the corridor, they did discover some details that they had not noticed at the entrance.

This hallway isn't just upside down - it's twisted and weird everywhere.

Doors of obviously inconsistent sizes were randomly embedded in the walls on both sides, some were upright, some were upside down. Occasionally, round portholes could be seen on the walls, but opposite the window was either a wall, another door or window. Some strange geometric protrusions appeared abruptly on the walls or the floor, and it looked as if the room structure was from somewhere else, but was mistakenly integrated into the corridor.

The interior of the "Obsidian" is like the internal organs of a giant beast that has been transformed by a terrifying doctor. All of its internal organs are stacked and connected in a twisted manner. The rooms are staggered, the doors are crooked, and the exits and entrances are randomly connected in this corridor that is suspected to be the main road. At the end of this corridor... no one knows what is lurking in the darkness.

The interior of the ghost ship was very quiet, with only the sound of people's footsteps knocking on the "ground" that should have been the roof. The sound echoed inside the ship, and it seemed to be mixed with something else.

Nina and Shirley seemed a little nervous, but Alice was in good condition - this puppet was not brave, but she seriously lacked common sense. All her ship sailing experience came from the equally weird and strange Homelander, so she didn't think there was anything to be afraid of in this ghost ship.

After walking forward for an unknown amount of time, the long corridor seemed to stretch endlessly in the darkness, and the area ahead became increasingly dim. Duncan poked the pigeon on his shoulder and said, "Lighting."

Ai Yi suddenly shouted sharply: "Take this solar-powered battle axe! Embrace the glory of battle!"

As the pigeon screamed, a bright green flame rose from its body, and the blazing flames immediately dispelled the darkness in the corridor.

Vanna looked at this scene in astonishment, and whispered to Morris in front of her: "This pigeon... can actually be used like this?"

Morris' tone was particularly calm: "The captain often uses it this way - sometimes when the pigeons are not around, he will use his own lighting."

Vanna: “……?”

But this time, before she could once again lament the huge gap between the "legendary Captain Duncan" and the real Captain Duncan, a sudden noise interrupted everyone's actions.

“Boom boom boom…”

It sounded like a dull knock—coming from behind a nearby door!

Everyone stopped instantly, and all eyes were focused on the direction where the sound came from.

It was a blue door with the words "Captain's Room" written on it.

From a normal ship structure perspective, the captain's room certainly could not be in this position. However, on this completely chaotic ghost ship where the entrances to various cabins are randomly stacked, it is possible for any door to appear in any place.

“Boom boom boom…”

The knocking sound rang out again, more obvious than before, and seemed a little more urgent.

It was as if there was a survivor of a shipwreck hiding behind the door, who, after hearing the noise in the corridor, anxiously banged on the door in the hope of attracting help.

Vanna silently reached out to touch the giant sword behind her, Shirley slightly raised the black chain in her hand, Nina hid behind Alice, and Alice raised her hands to hug her head.

Duncan came to the door with an expressionless face.

The knocking sounds of "dong dong dong" continued.

But Duncan had no intention of opening the door. He just bent his fingers and knocked on the door twice.

The knocking sound inside suddenly stopped, and it seemed that the person who made the sound was a little stunned. After a few seconds of silence, a hoarse and low voice suddenly broke the silence, and it sounded from behind the blue door: "Is there anyone outside?"

"Yes." Duncan said lightly.

"Ah, great! I'm the captain of the Obsidian. I don't know what happened on the ship, but I'm trapped," the hoarse and deep voice said immediately, "Kind sir outside the door, what's your name? Can you help me open the door?"

"Just call me Duncan," Duncan said, and at the same time he pressed his hand behind him, signaling others to be patient. "Before opening the door, I want to confirm - are you really the captain of the Obsidian?"

"Of course! My name is Cristo Barberi. You can find my name and ID number from the Port Affairs Bureau. My ID is in the room," the voice said immediately, "but... now this damn door doesn't move for some reason, and I really have no way to come out and prove my identity to you..."

"Next question," Duncan ignored the chatter of the man in the room and continued to ask, "What year is this year?"

"This year?" The voice in the door was obviously stunned for a moment, probably thinking that the question was a bit strange, but still answered, "Of course it's 1894, what's the problem with that?"

Duncan looked back at Morris, who nodded slightly.

The year was 1894, and that was the day when the Obsidian was shipwrecked.

Thinking of the shipwreck, Morris suddenly stepped forward and asked, "Excuse me, Captain, do you know that there is a passenger named Brown Scott on your ship?"

"Passengers?" The voice behind the blue door hesitated. "I can't remember the names of every passenger on the ship, but... are you talking about Brown Scott? Ah, I remember, I remember this, the folklorist? He is a famous person. I have talked to him several times. I remember that he is a very thin gentleman, his hair and beard are always meticulous. He is very knowledgeable about the funeral customs of various city-states, and he is also very interested in the frozen sea further north of Frost..."

Listening to the voice coming from behind the blue door, Morris nodded slightly and whispered to Duncan: "No deviation."

"He is conscious, has complete memory, and can accurately say his own name," Vanna, who had been silent all this time, suddenly broke the silence. "But it is possible that he is an evil creature that has set a trap after absorbing human memories and emotions. This kind of thing is not uncommon on ghost ships."

"Oh, that doesn't matter, as long as you really have the captain's memory," Duncan said indifferently, "You can also try to reason with the monster first - if reason doesn't make sense, you can use physics, it will always make sense."

Fanna was stunned: "...That's true."

Duncan placed his hand on the handle of the blue wooden door.

"I'm going to open the door, Mr. Barberi," he said to the inside.

Then he turned the handle - unlike the completely rusted hatches he had seen before, this door did not seem to have any signs of damage. When he turned the door handle, he immediately heard the slight sound of the lock cylinder turning.

The door opened.

Under everyone's slightly nervous gaze, Duncan pushed open the door.

An upside-down and disordered room appeared before everyone.

All the walls were crooked and the ceiling was tilted as if it was about to collapse completely. The original furnishings in the room were randomly integrated into the nearby walls and the ground, as if buried by wood and metal. All that was exposed outside were incomplete parts such as half a table and half a chair. There was a huge hole in the wall facing the door. The other side of the hole was pitch black and it was unknown where it led to.

There was no one in this upside-down and disordered room.

Duncan glanced at the empty room, but the next second, he heard the voice of Captain Cristo Barberi coming from behind the blue door again: "Ah, did you open the door? I seem to feel a shake, but the door is still motionless in my hand... Do I have some perception or cognitive problems? Can you help me? I may have been trapped at sea for too long and have some bad symptoms. It would be great if there is a priest willing to lend a hand..."

Duncan frowned.

He walked into the messy room, slowly turned the door and looked behind it.

He saw the "Christo Barberi".

A mass...like a broken melted wax figure, is stuck to the door. From the deformed and collapsed structure, one can vaguely see an arm attached to the door panel, several fiber bundles connected to the hand, and a large mass of "body" that cannot be identified at all.

This horrible and twisted mass was fused with the door. When Duncan looked at it, it was still slightly expanding and shrinking, and a hoarse and low sound came from some part of its structure.

"Ah, I can't see you. Did you come in? The room may be a little messy. There was a big earthquake before, and I haven't cleaned the room since then... I seem to have some problems with my vision, but the problem is not big. The most troublesome thing now is that I can't move my body. I seem to have forgotten how to control my hands and feet. By the way, do you have a doctor with you?"
