At that moment, a strange and confusing perception suddenly mixed into Duncan's consciousness. Just like his previous "walks in the spirit world", he felt that his "perspective" was suddenly split into two, and a brand new body became his new "tip" for perceiving the world, but... it was not the same as before.
The new "perspective" was filled with restless light flows that seemed to interfere with the view. The alternating light and dark shadows permeated the water like some kind of scanning line. He saw the "primitive land" shrouded in darkness in the distance, and the countless human-shaped creatures floating around the land. At the same time, he saw the inconspicuous submersible - it was hovering diagonally above the deep-sea floating island, maintaining a forward angle, with a pale light extending from its front end and diffusing into the sea water bit by bit.
All of these were surrounded by uncertain lights and shadows. Even in places that the submersible's searchlight could not reach, he could "see" glimmers and outlines - this was a completely new perspective.
Outside the porthole, in the deep sea, the body that suddenly began to move slowly raised its arms and touched its head without facial features.
Naturally, Duncan did not touch his eyes - the body he had just occupied had no such organs. In fact, this body did not even have formed hands and feet. The bare ends of the limbs touched the flat and smooth face, and the touch was rough and dull, weird.
But suddenly, Duncan had a feeling... He followed this feeling to control his new body, stretched out his arms and pressed hard on the "face" of this body.
The dark, smooth face began to move, and within a few seconds, the front of the face split and formed two eyes.
The vision suddenly became much clearer.
Duncan controlled this "rough" body somewhat unfamiliarly, swam slowly to the front of the submersible, and looked inside with his newly grown eyes.
He looked at himself in bewilderment. The feeling was both novel and strange.
Agatha in the submersible couldn't help but scream out in surprise: "Ah!"
Then she reacted and turned her head to look at Duncan who was standing in front of the console: "You... really scared me a little."
"You should learn to adapt," Duncan said without looking back while paying attention to the condition of the machine in the submersible, "The people around me are always a little fussy."
Agatha was still in shock, and her whole body was tense. She quickly glanced between Duncan and the "human figure" outside the cabin several times, with only one thought in her mind -
There is a reason why the world is so afraid of Captain Duncan. His seemingly trivial action is too weird and terrifying in the endless deep sea.
But after hesitating for a long time, she still didn't dare to say what was in her mind, so she could only change the subject abruptly: "...What are you going to do next?"
"This temporary body can see in the dark. I need to continue checking the situation ahead," Duncan said casually, while turning a series of levers and cranks on the control panel. As he moved, the mechanical compartment of the submersible once again emitted a difficult noise as if it was on the verge of reaching its limit. "As for this side... we need to surface for a distance. This machine can no longer hold on. It cannot stay at the extreme depth."
Amid the low roar of the ballast tanks struggling to drain the water, the submersible began to slowly rise, but Agatha still couldn't help looking out the porthole, watching the "human figure" gradually disappearing in the light.
A faint flame suddenly emerged in the sea. The body carrying Captain Duncan's will waved towards this side, then turned around and gradually sank into the depths of darkness along with the floating spiritual flame.
Cold, dark, lonely and silent.
Duncan's consciousness gradually adapted to this strange temporary body. He controlled the body to turn around, swim, and move forward in the darkness, constantly approaching the "Frost Island" floating in the deep sea.
The lights of the submersible had faded away, and darkness once again dominated the deep sea. However, the faint green spiritual flame was slowly spreading in the sea water. The faint firelight, coupled with the body's own peculiar perception ability, allowed Duncan to always distinguish the environment around him and the direction he was heading.
All around him, countless humanoid creatures floated in the cold water.
Like an extremely bizarre gathering, rough "people" gathered from all directions, some far, some near, stagnant and blind, slightly swaying with the ocean currents, and the only one with eyes was walking through this silent and strange "crowd".
Duncan tried his best to avoid contact with the "human figures" floating near him, but he still couldn't avoid passing by them at a close distance.
Whenever he passed by them, he couldn't help but have some weird and scary associations - as if there were countless pairs of eyes and countless souls waiting to wake up, looking at him, the uninvited guest, curiously, and even ready to reach out to him at any time.
But in the end nothing happened.
Those silent human figures were just silent. They were heartless and soulless, like hollow dolls made of mud.
Duncan passed through these empty shells and came to a cliff on the edge of the "deep-sea floating island".
He stopped and observed the terrain in front of him.
This should be the southeast coast of "Frost", in the world above the sea. There are ports, warehouses and customs offices near this coast. There is a beautiful little church standing on the sea cliff. The path leading to the church is lined with cold-resistant trees that remain evergreen in winter.
But here, on the rugged coast, there were only bare rocks, with a strange black color, like a crude model without color.
Duncan raised his head and looked towards the center of the deep-sea floating island.
In the interweaving of darkness and dim light, he could vaguely see some kind of huge structure there, like a mountain, or a giant pillar running through the island.
He thought of the scene that Martha had shown him during his previous conversation.
Countless minds that fell into the sea cast a glance towards the dark abyss before they dissipated. The common impression they formed in fear was a huge pillar that ran through a huge entity floating in the deep sea.
Now it seems that the huge entity presented in that illusion is the Frost "original blueprint" in front of us now. Then what about the giant pillar that runs through the island? Is it the Deep Lord who "invades" the real world? Or... the so-called fake?
Duncan thought about it, stood up and swam towards the "pillar", but stopped after swimming a short distance, feeling a little distressed.
It’s too far, it requires crossing half of the city-state.
It's a waste of time to run to the top of a mountain - let alone in this deep sea where it is difficult to move.
Even if this body is not affected by the heavy pressure of the deep sea, it would be a time-consuming and laborious task to swim all the way there.
Duncan pondered, and gradually an idea came to his mind.
Then he hesitated for a few seconds before he slowly raised one arm in the sea and waved it gently to give it a try.
The dark green flames spread as he moved, and in the blink of an eye, they gathered into a rotating door. After the door opened, a skeletal bird with blazing flames rushed out from inside, and surrounded Duncan and shouted loudly:
"Who's calling the fleet! Transmission successful! Transmission successful! Open the door, the courier is here!"
Duncan's eyes widened in surprise.
Ai flapped its wings beside him. In this deep sea under the pressure of billions of tons of sea water, it was still as light and nimble as if flying in the sky, and its unique, shrill female voice, like some kind of distorted synthesized sound, was as noisy as ever, and so clear that it seemed able to drill directly into people's brains.
The deep sea environment seemed to be non-existent to Ai!
Duncan originally just wanted to give it a try and wanted to summon Ai to see if it could be of any use. After all, this pigeon's "teleportation" ability has demonstrated its incredible effectiveness many times. But this is the deep sea after all, which is completely different from the surface. He has made preparations to instantly teleport Ai back to the ship if he cannot adapt to the environment, but what happened before his eyes... was completely beyond his expectations.
He just stared in amazement at the pigeon flying around him like it was dancing in the air, chirping, and watching it shuttle through the sea like a projection unaffected by the environment. He was stunned for a long time before he reached out his hand to intercept the bird.
Ai Yi fell on Duncan's arm obediently and tilted his head curiously: "What are you doing?"
Duncan was about to speak, but suddenly realized that his body didn't seem to have a mouth. Even if he had a mouth, he didn't know how to speak directly in the deep sea. So he concentrated his mind and tried to convey his thoughts to the pigeon spirit.
"This is the deep sea. Do you feel any discomfort?"
He looked into Ai's eyes, wondering if the other party could understand what he meant, and looked forward to its answer.
Ai tilted his head again.
"GG, come surf too!" The bird suddenly flapped its wings excitedly, and dots of dark green fire scattered from its bony wings. "Tianyi 3G, too fast, Tianyi 3G, too fast!"
Duncan's eyes changed slightly. He listened to the pigeon spirit's chattering thoughtfully and did not speak for a long time.
Until Ai gradually calmed down and pecked his arm curiously: "The application is not responding?"
Duncan was awakened from his thoughts and his mind quickly returned to the matter at hand.
There is still work to do.
He raised his head and looked at the distant chaotic darkness. He concentrated his mind again and tried to pass his orders to the pigeon spirit beside him.
"Take me to that place."
"Command received! Command received!" Ai reacted quickly. As usual, it flapped its wings excitedly, causing blazing flames to rise around it. "Mission accomplished!"
