Duncan noticed something unusual about the old elf in front of him, and noticed that his body was becoming translucent, as if he would disappear from this world at any time.
The change in Duncan's expression was obviously noticed by the other party.
"As you can see, Captain, some interesting changes are happening to me," Rune smiled frankly, even raising his hand to show his most transparent palm, "A powerful force is trying to bring me to 'Him'."
Duncan's expression changed slightly: "Silantis' power - I didn't expect that you, the 'Pope', would also be affected."
"After all, I am also an elf. It seems that something rooted deep in the soul of our race does not care whether I am a 'Pope' or not," Rune said calmly, "I feel that powerful invitation - Silantis is calling all elves to return to the Mother Tree."
Duncan frowned, as he found something wrong. "But you are conscious - this is different from what I have learned about other elves."
"Because I'm not going." Rune said with a gentle smile.
Duncan: “……?”
"As a 'Pope', there must be something special about me. At least for a period of time, I can still refuse Silantis's 'invitation'," Rune said, looking up behind Duncan, "Captain, do you mind if I come aboard to talk? I know some information about the current situation."
Duncan did not refuse. He just nodded after a few seconds of silence. He took two steps to the side and looked into the old man's eyes calmly: "If your doctrine does not mind you stepping on a warp shadow ship."
"The church comes from God," Rune said slowly. He walked nonchalantly across the end of the pier and stepped onto the deck of the Lost Hometown. Then he continued, "But it is people who explain it - I will explain it to the bishops later."
Duncan's mouth twitched for a moment, and he suddenly realized that the Pope seemed a little different from what he had imagined. Then he noticed that the entourage brought by Rune were all parked on the pier, and seemed to have no intention of getting on board. This surprised him: "Aren't these entourage and guards coming with you? Are you going to get on board alone?"
Lu En had already walked out several steps by himself. Hearing this, he looked back and said, "They won't follow us, because for some things, it's better if fewer people know about them."
The old man didn't seem to be worried at all, and seeing his calm attitude, Duncan certainly had no objection. He waved to those who stayed on the pier, turned around and walked to Rune's side - but when crossing the deck, he couldn't help but ask one more question: "You came here alone, without any guards, aren't you worried about your safety?"
Rune looked up at Duncan and said, "If you really have bad intentions, can a few guards ensure my safety on the Lost Homeland?"
Duncan thought about it carefully and answered calmly: "It should be difficult for them to ensure their own safety."
"That's all - I'm a pragmatic person, and this is the most basic ethics as a scholar." Rune said casually, and then continued to walk towards the captain's room under the leadership of Duncan.
On the way, Duncan gave the "Pope" a general account of the current situation, including the "disappearance" of Breeze Harbor and the current situation in the city-state.
When he was about to reach the stern deck, Rune stopped. He raised his head and looked over the side of the Lost Homeland to the vast sea on the other side of the ship.
That's where Breeze Harbor once was.
But now there is only a stretch of sea water that is gradually glowing golden in the sunset, and glowing geometric shapes floating quietly on the sea in the distance.
Duncan could still see the invisible threads floating above the sea as dense as hair, but in Rune's eyes, there was nothing on the sea at all.
"It was like this when I got here," Duncan noticed Rune's gaze and said casually, "You don't think I ruined it, do you?"
"...Some people did think so when we first arrived in this sea area. If Banster was here, he would think so even more." Rune hesitated and spoke in a strange tone, "But please understand, a city-state just disappeared out of thin air. This is too unbelievable, and the Lost Hometown is still at the scene - even if we know that this incident is related to the 'Dream of the Nameless', it is inevitable that some people will have wild thoughts."
Duncan didn't say anything, but stepped forward and opened the door of the captain's room, making an invitation gesture.
With obvious curiosity, Rune followed Duncan into this unknown and mysterious place which was full of countless strange legends and shrouded in horror.
"The captain is back!" Alice, who was waiting in the captain's room, was the first to greet him. She ran towards Duncan happily, but then stopped, "Who is this old man?"
Rune looked at the puppet that suddenly appeared in front of him in some surprise.
But he quickly reacted and matched the information in his mind: "If I'm not mistaken, this is Miss Alice?"
"Yes," Alice nodded slightly, looking at the strange old man who had just walked in with curiosity, "Who are you?"
"Servant of the God of Wisdom," Rune said with a polite smile, "You can just call me Rune."
"He is Morris's teacher." Duncan added casually - he knew Alice would understand this better.
"Oh! Mr. Morris's teacher! That must be quite impressive," Alice understood immediately, and then ran to the small tea stove with ease, "Then I'll go make some tea!"
Rune watched in amazement as this terrifying puppet, which was marked as "out of control" in the official archives, bustling about in the room. He also looked at the various furnishings in the captain's room with some curiosity, but suddenly, a strange feeling of being watched caught his attention. He subconsciously turned his gaze and saw a black wooden goat head quietly placed on the navigation table in the center of the room. The strange "sculpture" was staring at him, and its eyes, which seemed to be carved out of obsidian, were empty and deep, reflecting a bit of strange light as it stared at him.
Rune seemed to be stunned for a moment. He stood there motionless, staring at the strange black "wood sculpture" without blinking.
After an unknown amount of time, the goat head finally moved. It suddenly said, "What are you looking at? Have you never seen a work of art?"
Rune seemed to be suddenly awakened from a dream. The moment the goat-head finished speaking, he suddenly let out a low cry of surprise, and then quickly turned his eyes away. Then, while avoiding continuing to look at the "wood sculpture" on the table, he held the table with his hands and looked up at Duncan: "She saw it!"
Duncan reacted instantly: "Silantis?"
"Yes, Silantis saw it. I... don't know how to describe this feeling, but just now, I felt Silantis's 'gaze' suddenly focused on me. She was looking at me through my eyes. She... I didn't understand what she conveyed. Confusion, fear, anger... countless chaotic emotions..."
He suddenly stopped and waved his hands in front of his eyes twice, as if trying to drive out some invisible interference from his mind. Duncan noticed that his body became a little more transparent in the past few seconds, but soon, the elf old man regained "stability" - he raised his head, and the chaos in his eyes gradually turned into clarity: "She has left temporarily, but I don't know how long she can hold her back - Captain Duncan, time is more limited than I expected, listen to me first."
Rune seemed to have used a willpower unimaginable to mortals to forcibly expel the part of his mind that belonged to Silantis. Then he sat down at the navigation table and spoke quickly -
“Silantis is calling out to the spirits of the world. This call is rooted deep in our souls. While being affected by this power, I also touched a part of her mind.
"I saw... there is a doomsday, something that destroys everything. It is strongly imprinted in the depths of her memory. This doomsday caused her to gradually lose control... Fear, anger, and the feeling of powerlessness over her own destruction, these things have long been dormant in the depths of her consciousness. Now she is gradually waking up, and so the dormant fear and memories of the doomsday are also awakening together. But this is not the whole reason..."
He paused, as if he needed a lot of effort to stabilize his mind. After resting for a few seconds, he continued: "In her anger, I also felt a strong feeling against us 'elves'. It was very strange and chaotic, accompanied by a strong sense of tearing... I felt a strong will to protect. She ordered the elves to return to the World Tree to receive some kind of 'shelter', but at the same time she felt a huge resistance to this 'protection', even... horrified, as if she was treating us as some kind of..."
This time, Rune paused for a longer time, as if trying to find a suitable word to describe the strong emotions he "touched" from Silantis. After opening his mouth several times, he finally spoke again: "Some kind of...seeming monster..."
He slowly turned his head and looked somewhere outside the window - that was the sea where Breeze Harbor disappeared.
Theoretically, he couldn't see Breeze Harbor, let alone the invisible threads floating on the sea.
But he still stared over there steadily, as if some invisible call sounded in his mind, making the old elf look towards the "World Tree" that existed only in the memory of his race.
"I can feel it..." Lu En seemed to be in a dream and spoke softly, "She is going crazy in this tearing feeling, but... but there is also...
"It seems that there is something else, on the 'other side' of that doomsday, there seems to be another existence that has fallen into madness... shouting at me vaguely..."
With a "crash", the sound of something falling to the ground came from the direction of the small tea stove.
Alice looked up and stared out the window in horror.
"Captain! Those lines are moving!"
