Chapter 18 You Can Trust Me

Unexpectedly, he actually did it for real.

Qiu Hu hesitated for a moment, somewhat at a loss. The man sitting down saw that she hadn't moved and knew she was shy. He pulled her down to sit and took a step closer to her. "Come on, or it will hurt even more later."

His words brought her back to reality. She told herself, "It's okay, don't be afraid, it's just applying some medicine."

She opened the tube of medicine, squeezed out the ointment, and applied it to the man's burned areas. She applied it very carefully, hoping he would recover quickly.

Suddenly, the man casually asked her a question, "Qiu Hu, what do you think of my looks?"

"What?"

Ning Yizhan knew she had heard him, and his gaze lingered on her, awaiting her reply.

"She's quite good-looking."

He wasn't satisfied with that. "Be more specific."

"You're very handsome, with outstanding features, especially your eyes, which are very beautiful and charming. Your temperament and personality are a perfect match."

Ning Yizhan's lips curled up. "So, do you like my looks?"

Qiu Hu suspected he was trying to trick her, but she wouldn't fall for it and denied it, saying, "I don't like it."

"You're lying, you clearly like it. Don't deny it, don't think I don't know what you're thinking." They're praising me, and you still say you don't like it.

He recalled the first time they met, "I remember when you first saw me, you kept staring at my face."

"That's because..." Qiu Hu hesitated, then stopped himself from speaking.

"Because of what?" Love at first sight, lust at first sight? He waited expectantly, his posture straightening.

"Because I pity you, who are about to be deceived by me."

"Well done, Qiu Hu, you're amazing." Ning Yizhan was still annoyed when he thought about it, and even moved his seat a few places.

The woman's hand followed, applying the last bit of ointment. "All done."

Ning Yizhan aloofly adjusted his bathrobe and said, "Mm."

Qiu Hu glanced at the time; it was almost time. "Should we take a look at the necklace now?"

"Okay, then come in with me." Ning Yi led her into the bedroom, opened the safe, took out the necklace, and the two sat down on the sofa.

Qiu Hu opened the necklace box. No matter how she looked at it, it simply resembled a valuable gemstone necklace, nothing special. She picked it up and examined it carefully for a while, trying to recall if her parents had said anything when they gave it to her, but nothing. Completely clueless, she asked Ning Yizhan, "Do you see anything?"

Ning Yizhan took the necklace from Qiu Hu's hand, but couldn't discern anything special about it. He spoke frankly, "There's very little information about this necklace. To know what's special about it, you'd have to ask the person who handled it. You really can't remember anything?"

"I can't remember. When my father gave it to me, he didn't say anything. He just told me to keep it safe."

Ning Yizhan touched the purple diamond in the necklace, lost in thought. "Could the secret be in this diamond? Could there be something inside?"

It seems that only this makes sense. There are so many diamond necklaces, so why would the Colin family on the other side of the world want it and go to such lengths, even joining forces with the Lin family of Mu City, to steal it?

"Shall we open it and take a look?"

"Shall I call a craftsman up here to take it apart and have a look?" Both of them were action-oriented.

Qiu Hu nodded in agreement, and Ning Yizhan picked up his phone and instructed Zhou Jue to find a trustworthy professional technician to come up now.

Zhou Jue is very efficient; the technician arrived at the door in no time.

Ning Yizhan had his craftsman disassemble the diamond and instructed him to wait outside. The two of them took the diamond to examine it, but it was still just a purple diamond. At this moment, Ning Yizhan picked up the diamond's base and found a thin, transparent paper. He picked up tweezers and removed it. "There's a layer of paper. It seems this is what they want?"

Qiu Hu had no idea such a thing existed. "Let's take it out and put it away first. We'll see what secrets this piece of paper holds later."

After the two of them carefully preserved the paper and had the craftsman restore the necklace to its original state, they let him leave.

Ning Yizhan seemed to realize something and asked, "Your parents do drug research, right? The Colin family also does that. Could there be a connection between the two?"

"I've thought that way too, but they've been missing for over ten years, are they only coming to steal the necklace now?"

"Or did they only find out now?"

"They arrested my parents?" Qiu Hu quickly dismissed the idea. "No, that's impossible. If they had arrested them, they could have just used my parents to blackmail me. Why go through all this trouble?"

"Yes."

So the Colin family must have gotten wind of this information from somewhere, which is why they came to steal the necklace.

What puzzled Qiu Hu even more was, "But they didn't come to rob us directly, did they? They came to steal, or perhaps they hadn't had time to take any further action."

"Let's solve the mystery of the necklace first, and verify this."

"Um."

It has to be said that Ning Yizhan was somewhat lucky; the necklace he casually took from her back then has now become a way to get closer to her.

Finally, Ning Yizhan drove her home. As she was about to get out of the car, he took her slender wrist with his long fingers, his gaze lingering on her, a faint smile on his thin lips, and his tone softened as he spoke, "Qiu Hu, you can trust me."

Qiu Hu turned to look at him, their eyes met, and for a few seconds they were locked in a longing gaze before she looked away.

Ning Yizhan chuckled softly, "You should go back now, Ah Hu, goodnight."

Qiu Hu then got out of the car and left.

After that day, nothing happened; everything was as uneventful as if nothing had occurred.
