Side Story: Merchant Song

Xiang Gexuan never expected that she would run into her ex-husband, or rather, Shang Ji, the day after her divorce.

Shang Ji would never understand her feelings. Even though they were divorced, she hadn't completely moved on. Seeing him now still made her want to cry. She cried all night last night until she had no tears left.

She had already turned to leave when Shang Ji rushed up in one stride.

"Speak, what do you want from me?" Xiang Gexuan wasn't stupid; this man must have something to say to rush over.

Shang Ji looked conflicted, unsure how to begin. He had so much to say, but didn't know where to start.

"Is there a problem with the divorce agreement? Or is there something else?" Xiang Gexuan asked, looking at the road beside him without looking at him.

"No, it's not..."

"What's the reason? If Mr. Shang has nothing else to say, I'd like to leave now; I'm going to be late for work!"

"Wait a minute, Ge Xuan." Shang Ji wanted to grab her shoulder to make it easier to talk, but then he remembered his current status and lowered his hand.

"Are you alright or not?"

Why is this man so indecisive?

Shang Ji sensed Xiang Gexuan's impatience and focused on the key point, saying, "I don't want a divorce, I really don't want a divorce."

"What are you talking about?" You know, they just got their divorce certificate yesterday.

"I want to remarry you. I promise I won't do anything you don't like anymore, okay, Gexuan?"

"Marriage is not a game. Shang Ji, haven't I given you a chance before?"

Xiang Gexuan walked away without looking back, only to hear Shang Ji calling after her, "I will bring you back."

For many days afterward, Shang Ji would appear before her whenever he had a chance, and she didn't hear any news about Zhou Qian. It wasn't until much later that she heard Zhou Qian had returned abroad and probably wouldn't be coming back.

Actually, Shang Ji had mentioned this to her by chance, but she didn't care.

Seeing her expressionless face, Shang Ji felt frustrated once again. That night, he took one of his few friends from Qincheng out for drinks.

Completely drunk, even Ning Yizhan couldn't stop him from rambling incoherently, "I've been coaxing her for so long, taking care of her every day. She should be over her anger by now. I don't even know how many times I've argued with my parents for her sake, and I still have to follow her around every day..."

"Nobody told you to follow me."

Only then did the men notice the three women standing at the door.

Xiang Gexuan stepped forward and said, "Mr. Shang, please don't follow me anymore. It's a nuisance to me. If we happen to see each other again, just pretend we don't know each other."

Finally, as I turned to leave, tears welled up in my eyes.

Upon hearing Xiang Gexuan's voice, Shang Ji snapped out of his daze. "That's not what I meant."

He tried to chase after her, but Qiu Hu stopped him at the door, saying, "Don't chase after her, you should wake up first!"

"Honey, you've come to pick me up!" Ning Yizhan exclaimed with delight upon seeing his wife.

"Let's go home."

Shao Lin patted Shang Ji, who was "standing as punishment," and said, "Brother, my wife is here to pick me up, so I'm leaving now."

The next day, Shang Ji still came to pester Xiang Gexuan. When she could no longer hide and could no longer bear it, she finally lashed out at Shang Ji behind her, "Aren't you annoying? What's the point of following me around? I've told you so many times, I won't agree to get back together with you, don't you understand?"

Xiang Gexuan was so frustrated that she packed her bags and went abroad to clear her head. At the same time, the Xiang family's businesses were preparing to expand overseas, so she stayed behind, and finally, she had some peace and quiet around her.

For a whole year, she didn't see Shang Ji again. She thought he had finally given up.

Unexpectedly, something dramatic still happened.

The project her company was working on involved the Shang family. She originally wanted to delegate it to her subordinates, but the client, the Shang family, specifically requested that Xiang Gexuan take charge of the project.

She had reason to suspect that this was something Shang Ji had orchestrated, and she had no choice but to go to the appointment.

"Long time no see, Gexuan, how are you?"

Xiang Gexuan pushed open the conference room door and was stunned to see the glamorous Shang Ji. She didn't react until Shang Ji took the initiative to greet her, and then she said, "It's fine."

The meeting quickly got down to business, and all she knew was that they would see each other often in the future.

And so, over time, Xiang Gexuan realized that she had forgiven Shang Ji, and Shang Ji continued to treat her well as always.

She thought, this simple and ordinary life is quite nice.

They remarried after Xiang Gexuan became pregnant. She could tell that Shang Ji was very happy, but along with her joy came worry.

They held another wedding, but unlike the first lavish wedding, this time they only invited some relatives and close friends.

"Shang Ji, will you let me down again?"

"No, definitely not."

"Okay. If you let me down again, I really won't forgive you."

Xiang Gexuan, who was still pregnant, quickly got tired, and the couple fell asleep in each other's arms.

In June, Xiang Gexuan gave birth to a daughter named Shang Mu.

When Shang Mu was eight months old, Shang Ji became very busy and sent the mother and daughter back to the Shang family.

“I can take good care of my daughter even if I don’t go back to the business. Besides, your mother and I really don’t get along.”

"Sweethearts, I can't take care of you while I'm away on a business trip. Mom will take good care of you when I get home. Your parents miss their granddaughter too."

"I'm saying I don't get along with your mother."

"I'll talk to Mom about this."

"Anyway, I don't want to go."

In the end, Xiang Gexuan compromised. However, on her very first day back at the Shang family, she was ridiculed by Madam Shang. She initially wanted to endure it, but she simply couldn't.

On the first day, I took my daughter home. I had barely stepped inside when I received a call from Shang Ji.

"Can't you just put up with it? That's just my mom's temper."

"I've really put up with your mom. I'll just ask you one question: have you actually tried to talk your mom out of it?"

The fact that the person on the phone didn't reply already gave me the answer.

"Okay, I don't want to argue with you anymore. That's all. Bye."

"Damn it, getting married is such a hassle." Just as he finished cursing, his daughter started crying again.

"..."

Two years passed in this noisy manner, and Xiang Gexuan finally handed over the divorce papers.

"Just sign it, this kind of marriage is meaningless."

Upon seeing the five large characters in front of him, Shang Ji exclaimed, "Another divorce? Xiang Gexuan, when will you ever stop?"

"It should have ended a long time ago!" After calming down, she said, "Think about your marriage these past two years. We've both been suffering a lot. It's unnecessary."

Shang Ji thought about it all night and finally agreed to her request. The two of them got a divorce certificate again.

As Xiang Gexuan walked out of the marriage registration office, he felt a huge weight lift from his shoulders and let out a long sigh. This time, it was truly over.

Looking at Xiang Gexuan, who had relaxed, Shang Ji felt a pang of bitterness well up inside him. "I'm sorry."
