Chapter 38 Sneak Attack, Arrogance (Seeking monthly votes and to continue reading)
The bright moonlight shone on the piles of rocks on the hemlock hill.
Samantha was sticking her rear end up, her tail held high, completely focused, carving crooked grooves into the ground with her claws. She wasn't drawing an alchemical array, but rather teasing the ants.
Watching a group of ants helplessly moving forward along the trenches they had carved themselves.
Samantha smiled with delight.
As a red dragon, it naturally enjoys the feeling of controlling the life and death, even the fate, of other creatures, like a king. Now that its strength doesn't allow it to do so, it can only play with ants to satisfy its cravings.
With a single claw, it connects the beginning and end of the ravine.
The poor ants crawled helplessly through a maze-like ravine with no exit.
Samantha raised her chin, her gaze disdainful, and mimicked the deep tone of an adult dragon, saying, "Humble ants, cry out for mercy to the great Red Dragon Queen, grovel and beg, and perhaps I will show mercy and spare your insignificant lives."
The ants remained silent and simply continued crawling.
One of the clever and strong ants, finding itself unable to move forward, began to climb upwards, eventually emerging from the ravine and unknowingly arriving before Samantha's paws.
The 'Red Dragon Queen' let out a soft 'hmm' with great interest.
"Legendary leader of the most powerful and intelligent Abyss Ant Clan, do you intend to defy my destiny and challenge me?"
"Very well, I admire your courage. As you wish, I grant you—death!"
Smack!
The red dragon descended with its claws and slapped the 'Abyssal Demon Ant' to death.
Because she felt a little embarrassed, Samantha would only secretly play this childish game for a short while when there were no other creatures around.
Now that Garros is away, the bear Mobel is out hunting, giving it its own private time for relaxation.
After playing around noisily for a while, Samantha stood up, head held high, still immersed in the feeling of being the 'Red Dragon Queen' ruling over all things. She strode confidently toward the alchemy workshop.
—A simple shack built with slabs of rock.
Upon closer inspection, in the workshop, a metal crucible was bubbling with black oil, emitting eerie purple smoke.
"I got carried away and forgot about the limits! Oh no! Galos's coming back will beat me up!"
Samantha, who had been holding her head high, suddenly lowered it. She rushed to the cauldron and hurriedly used her magic to draw runes, which she then poured into the boiling black oil, gradually calming it down and preventing an explosion.
Samantha exhaled a spark from her nostrils and breathed a sigh of relief.
It lowered its head to sniff the bubbling black oil, completely unaware that five dark figures were secretly watching it.
The wanderer, hidden behind a rock, raised his crossbow.
The crossbow bolts, equipped with armor-piercing and silencing runes, were ready to be loaded. Their arrowheads gleamed with a bluish sheen in the night, clearly indicating that they had been coated with potent poison.
On the other side.
The blond warrior stepped into the shadow of the hemlock, approaching the red dragon, and finally slowly drew the greatsword, which was as big as a door panel, from his back. He pressed down with his palm and gently swung it, making a gesture to begin the hunt.
Without a sound or a sound.
The specially crafted alchemical crossbow bolt pierced the night and precisely embedded itself in Samantha's right wing joint. The arrow was still trembling slightly, emitting a metallic tremor.
The bright blue color immediately spread out, covering a small area on its wing membrane.
The sudden attack, the excruciating pain in the dragon's wing.
Samantha's pupils narrowed to slits from the intense pain. She thrashed her tail wildly, sweeping away the smoldering alchemical cauldron. Boiling black oil spilled onto the ground, emitting a pungent odor.
"Damn humans!"
Upon seeing the attackers, Samantha roared.
The blond warrior charged forward, leaping high into the air, the alchemical runes on his greatsword glowing brightly, exuding an imposing aura.
Leaping slash!
As the heavy sword came crashing down, Samantha raised her dragon arm and swept it horizontally.
Weakness Technique!
A beam of dark light shot from the necromancer's pale finger, landing on Samantha and instantly making her feel weak and powerless, causing her movements to become sluggish and feeble.
The sword cleaved through the dragon's scales and tore through its flesh.
Whoosh! Another crossbow bolt shot out and landed beside Samantha.
The blonde warrior spun around and slashed, the blood-stained door panel greatsword striking Samantha's shoulder once more.
Caught off guard by the sudden ambush of the professionals, Samantha was put on the defensive. Enraged, she shone with a lava-like luster from the gaps in her chest scales and her mouth glowed with a blinding red light.
It will use its dragon breath to burn the warriors who dare to offend it to ashes.
"Haven!"
The blond warrior sensed danger and shouted.
A spell to silence!
The spellcaster of the spellcasting school prepared the spell, and the complex incantation flew in like a bolt of lightning, landing on Samantha's neck and intertwining into a ring, transforming into a silent sealing power, preventing Samantha from exhaling dragon breath immediately.
The incantation on his neck kept cracking.
Samantha roared silently and slapped at the blond warrior with her claws. Although he blocked it with his sword, the powerful force still sent him flying, crashing into a hemlock tree and breaking it in half.
Samantha was about to give chase when a skull-like ghostly fire rapidly approached and struck her.
They were incredibly cold, unlike ordinary flames. Samantha's fire resistance could only be partially reduced, and she inevitably suffered damage.
On the other side, white light emanated from the priest and shone on the blond warrior.
He stood up and strode towards the red dragon at an even faster pace.
As Samantha roared, the silence spell around its neck shattered, but before the fiery breath could be released again, a sphere was thrown by the Wanderer, exploding with a highly pungent odor, causing Samantha to involuntarily sneeze, flames shooting from its nostrils.
When I looked up again.
The blond warrior was already close enough, and the door-sized greatsword slashed down at it.
Being constantly constrained made Samantha realize that she was no match for these humans.
Thanks to Galus's upbringing, it had become much less arrogant and conceited than before. Suppressing its desire for a fight to the death, it flapped its wings and soared into the sky, preparing to disengage and leave.
But it had only flown a few meters high.
A large net covered in hooks was thrown out by the wanderer, enveloping its body. The dense iron hooks became stuck in its scales, making it difficult to break free.
The blond warrior grabbed the iron net with one hand and pulled it downwards, slowing Samantha's ascent.
Another spellcaster has completed his spell.
Anti-flight spell! The spell, solidified to a tangible form, locked onto Samantha's wings, dispelling the magical energy within.
The wings of an ordinary young dragon, without magical power, are not strong enough to support its heavy body. Samantha flapped her wings a few times, but was eventually dragged to the ground.
It tore through the iron fence, its face contorted with rage.
Since there's no escape, let's fight to the death! The red dragon fears no challenge, nor death! Samantha roared as she continued to fight the five. Although she was at a disadvantage and constantly getting injured, she was not defeated outright.
at the same time.
High in the night sky, between a thick, dense cloud.
Galos watched the battle below silently.
"These adventurers seem rather weak; even Samantha couldn't take them down directly."
"However, as I expected, relying mainly on magic energy for flight is indeed a major weakness and makes it easy to be targeted."
Just as the battle between the two sides had just begun, Galos returned.
Seeing that Samantha was not in mortal danger, he did not take immediate action, but observed silently for a while, and found that these adventurers were not as powerful as he had imagined.
Perhaps I won't need to be so cautious when facing adventurers in the future.
With my current strength, I should be able to take care of them easily.
Adventurers? What a bunch of idiots!
Thinking of this, Galos quickly shook his head.
"Arrogance is always quietly growing, and we must always be on guard."
"These should only be the lowest-level adventurers, but they are already able to deal with a normal young dragon like Samantha, and it seems that they want to capture it alive, so their attack is not too fierce."
Galos thought to himself.
Having determined that these adventurers posed no significant threat, he folded his wings, his guillotine-like dragon wings slicing through the night as he swooped down at breakneck speed.
