Chapter 9 The Spiny Lion
After hunting in the abandoned mine and discovering a swarm of rock-crushing worms.
Instead of returning directly to the sinkhole territory under the protection of the Iron Dragon Maiden, Garos continued to hover above the clouds, looking down at the boundless wilderness, searching for monsters and ferocious beasts to hone his combat skills, while also observing a suitable territory for himself to inhabit and occupy in the future.
It's worth mentioning here.
"Monster" is short for magical creature. As a dragon, Garos is actually the top-level monster. As for ferocious beasts, they are ferocious wild beasts that have undergone evolution and mutation.
Most monsters possess magical abilities and are generally quite intelligent, while ferocious beasts rely primarily on their powerful physiques and are of low intelligence.
For most of the day.
Aside from the initial Rock-Breaking Worm, Garros hunted a total of five targets.
Petrified Lizard, Firebreath Crocodile, Red-eyed Giant Rhinoceros, Deinonychus Owl Bear, Giant Claw Rock Crab.
Two monsters, three ferocious beasts.
Because the environment of the Sel Wilderness is mainly inhabited by creatures of the earth and fire elements.
Including the Rock-Breaking Worm, a total of six combat hunts gave Garos a clearer understanding of his own level.
He is now a level 7 life form.
When facing a level 6 Devilclaw Owl Bear, Garros relied on the inherent strength of dragons and his own body, which had been strengthened through his daily training, and killed it with a single charge.
When fighting the level 7 monster Firebreath Crocodile, Garos, with the fire resistance he inherited from the bloodlines of the Red Dragon and Iron Dragon, was directly hit by the high-temperature flames it breathed out. However, he only suffered some soot marks on his scales. The blazing dragon breath he exhaled directly turned the Firebreath Crocodile into charcoal.
Other monsters or ferocious beasts of the same level are no match for Galos.
Even the thick-skinned, red-eyed giant rhinoceros would be half-dead after being violently struck by Garus as he plummeted from the sky.
Currently, 'Great Wilderness Dragon Meteor' is Garos's most powerful attack method besides Dragon Breath.
For other young dragons, such a self-sacrificing attack is very dangerous; if not handled properly, it could seriously injure them. But Garus, having been exposed to the elements every day and having evolved a body of cushioning scales, has long since mastered this technique.
Both the lower-level and the same-level are weak.
Only the petrified lizard, an 8th-level monster higher than Garos, caused him some damage.
Its petrifying ray struck Garos, turning a small area of the dragon scales on his arm armor, as well as the layer of flesh beneath, into stone. But that was all the damage the petrifying lizard had inflicted on Garos.
He made a guess.
Although I am only level 7, I should not be afraid even when facing level 9 ferocious beasts and monsters.
Ordinary dragons can fight against opponents of higher levels, and Galos's adapted and evolved physique is among the best of all dragons.
However, Galus did not have the overly arrogant and conceited personality of other dragons.
Unless necessary and driven by sufficient self-interest, he would not rashly confront a creature of a much higher level than himself.
With the inherent talents and adaptive evolution of dragons, he can grow stronger by developing steadily.
There's no need to put yourself in a dangerous situation because of momentary arrogance and conceit.
The arrogance and conceit inherited from the ancient times when dragons ruled everything caused countless dragons to perish before they could grow up.
Let's get back to the main topic.
Besides the ferocious beasts and monsters to hunt.
Galos also discovered several suitable habitats for organisms.
The good news is that these habitats are either fertile and lush, have clear lakes teeming with birds and animals, or are located in rugged terrain that is easy to defend and difficult to attack.
The bad news is that all of them, which looked like abandoned mines overrun by rock worm swarms, have been taken over.
Numerous creatures live and inhabit this wilderness, but suitable habitats are scarce and in short supply, as they are mostly occupied by powerful species.
The territory that Galos coveted most was nestled against mountains and beside water, boasting beautiful scenery and abundant food resources.
Unfortunately, it was occupied by a group of spiny-tailed lions.
The average life level of an adult spiny lion is 5.
If it were a one-on-one duel, a knightly contest, Galos would let his opponent use both of his claws.
However, the group of spiny-tailed lions was quite large, estimated to be around thirty from an aerial view. Not only were there two leaders, a male and a female, but they were also enormous and their appearance was different from that of normal spiny-tailed lions, as if they had undergone some mutation.
I noted down the locations of several territories that I liked.
Galos thought to himself that perhaps when he left the protection of the Iron Dragon Girl, he would be able to replace the original lord.
As the sun was about to sink into the embrace of the distant mountains, layers of fiery sunset clouds painted the sky.
The young dragon ended its expedition, soaring through the sky under the setting sun as it returned to its sinkhole territory.
Since he was of legal age to be expelled, Garus, although living in the sinkhole territory, no longer lived in the same dragon nest as the Iron Dragon Girl.
He decided to settle down on the cliff where he usually exercised.
Just got back.
He saw Red Dragon Girl and Iron Dragon Brother lazily basking in the afterglow of the setting sun, lying on the outside of the mine tunnel with their bellies exposed, their eyes half-closed, their tails swaying back and forth behind them, looking very content.
Both of them were lazy and undisciplined, and lacked the self-discipline of Garus.
At first, they thought they knew the secret to Galos's power, so in their spare time they imitated Galos by crashing into mountains and the ground, and they did so with great enthusiasm and high spirits.
That was indeed the case a few days ago.
The two dragons were full of enthusiasm, spending all their free time on sedatives, unlike before when they would just wander around aimlessly or lie down and sleep when they had nothing to do.
But as time goes by, their nature remains unchanged, and their enthusiasm begins to wane.
Just recently.
During her free time, when it was time for Red Dragon Girl to practice crashing into the mountain as she had done before, she hesitated. She thought she should combine work and rest, take a nap, and replenish her energy before starting again, so she went to sleep.
After waking up, it was getting late, and the cool night breeze made Red Dragon Girl feel a little uncomfortable.
It figured that if it wasn't in the right condition, the training wouldn't be effective, so it decided to start during the day.
When the daytime arrives and the air is freshest at sunrise, Honglongmei feels that with such good air, she should soar through the sky and enjoy the thrill of flying high above the earth, and then she puts exercise out of her mind again.
After several times.
It has absolutely no desire to exercise.
As for Tielongdi, he is different from Honglongmei, as he did not experience Honglongmei's emotional journey.
—Once it flew too high and didn't adjust the angle properly when it reached the ground. Its dragon face made close contact with the earth, and the impact was too severe. To this day, its mouth is crooked and its eyes are slanted, looking like it's blinded by a ghost.
After this incident, Tie Longdi also gave up.
In fact, although not as effective as Galuso in terms of visible evolutionary adaptation, if they persist in using the impact of rocks and earth to hone their bodies, their scales can become harder and their bodies more resilient.
Even when forced to mine by Garros.
After a month, their claws and teeth were much sharper than before, and their muscle strength had also increased somewhat.
Ordinary dragons also possess evolutionary abilities far exceeding those of other creatures, but they are not as obviously efficient as those of Galus.
