Glyph Fortress, a giant fortress built at the beginning of the Second Age, controls the main road leading to the elven kingdoms in the north. Its terrain is dangerous and easy to defend but difficult to attack.
It is said that during its construction, the Mercury Dynasty awakened the corpse of a powerful Titan, mined the Abyssal Rock from deep underground, polished it, and transported it here, inserting it vertically into the earth to form a giant fortress.
Although this place was captured twice by the elves during the wars of the Second Age, the Mercury Dynasty later recaptured it and rebuilt it several times. To commemorate these difficult battles, the names of the victims, the years of the war, and words they hoped to pass on to future generations were engraved on this stone tablet.
The giant tombstone rocks were pitch black like magnets, with unmelted snow on top. A few crows landed on the top of the bell tower, turning their heads to look at the passers-by below.
This is the main road from the North to the Emerald Forest and the East. Caravans often stop here, and some adventurers and hunters sell the materials they get from killing monsters in exchange for gold coins to make a living.
Due to the lack of arable land around, the population here is not large. Most of the people here are soldiers stationed here and some chamber of commerce personnel who come and go.
Compared with other areas, the market here is not very lively, and people rarely bargain when doing business. If they feel the price is not appropriate, they will just leave.
This is the atmosphere in the North. People are generally straightforward. If you talk for a long time and try to negotiate a cheap price, you will be kicked out by the boss. They don't like to waste so much time and energy. If you want to buy, buy. If you don't want to buy, leave (gun). They don't have the mood to deal with all these twists and turns.
Today is a rare sunny day, and some chambers of commerce's convoys will take advantage of this to travel. The sound of carriages passing by can often be heard on the streets.
But at this usually noisy time, the streets suddenly became quiet.
Some travelers passing by looked at the street curiously and noticed the black knights riding by.
They stopped beside an ordinary oak carriage and seemed to question the driver for a few words before letting him go.
Seeing this scene, some residents who have lived here for many years were a little surprised.
Generally speaking, these Death Scythe Knights would ignore passing merchants, but if they stopped them, it was often because they had violated the local iron law, which was less strict than the imperial law but was strictly enforced here.
For example, serious crimes such as human trafficking, murder, and village massacres are prohibited.
When faced with such criminals, the Death Scythe Knights would usually execute them directly in the street to deter potential criminals. There were very few cases where they would stop someone and then let him go.
These Death Scythe Knights are all extraordinary beings in the Undead Order. They can see through souls directly, and ordinary disguises are difficult to work in front of them.
Why did they let the other party go this time? This thought flashed through his mind, but the carriage and the team left, and this little accident soon became a small fragment in life and was forgotten.
Sitting in the carriage, Lily held Hels in her arms and looked at the slightly heavy bell in her hand with a little surprise.
This was given to her by the Death Scythe Knight when she was about to leave the city, and he only left one sentence.
'Please ring this bell when you are in danger.'
Then, the three knights walked away silently, as if they had just passed by unintentionally.
Putting the bell back into her arms and wrapping it up in a small package, Lily looked at the scenery outside the window.
After leaving the towering Glyph Fortress, there is a long winding downhill road. There are dense coniferous forests here, with a little white snow remaining on the top. Some melted snow water drips from the trees, making a slight sound.
In the next two days, the team struggled to travel through the Spiral Leaf Mountains. The land here was like countless raised spirals, full of circular steps of varying heights, with tall trees growing in them and shrubs and thorns everywhere, making it very difficult to walk.
Even though the team had a familiar guide, it still took them a long time to gradually cross the area.
As they continued to move southeast, the temperature became slightly warmer. A day later, Lily gradually saw the vast, green and bright forest in the distance.
The sky was a light blue with a few white clouds floating in it. Tall and dense trees stood on the ground, many of which were more than a hundred meters high. Countless green leaves swayed in the sun and wind. The bright reflections and green leaves fluttered together, making a rustling sound, as soothing as the waves of the sea.
"That's the Emerald Forest." Inside the carriage, the witch in gray introduced it to Lily.
"Most of the forest elves live there. They are few in number and isolated from the outside world, so they rarely come out to move around."
"Was it like this before? I remember that in the early days of the empire, the forest elves participated in many construction projects and wars. Even Titaneia was built by forest elves and humans together." Lily asked.
"In the past, um, more than 300 years ago, the forest elves were still relatively active, and many could be seen in various parts of the empire." The witch recalled the records in past history.
"There are not only some elven chambers of commerce, but also elven musicians, elven bartenders, and forest elves who serve as generals. They tend to live a long time, so they have superb skills."
"But as the atmosphere within the empire deteriorated, with famine spreading, banditry increasing, and the behavior of the nobles, they gradually grew tired of it, and so they slowly moved back into the forest."
"Over the past hundred years, fewer and fewer forest elves have been roaming the world. Therefore, the emperor's deprivation of the elves' former privileges seems to have no impact on them, and they haven't made any special protests or responses."
