Chapter 120: Secluded Island

After two days of sailing, the boat arrived at the island where Lettice lived in seclusion.

After stopping at this small harbor, the three of them got off the boat and stepped onto the quiet town decorated with red bricks and green ivy.

The people living on this small island do not move. There are only about a hundred households in total, and most of them are concentrated near the port.

Life on the island is very peaceful. People walk slowly on the streets, greet people they know, and often stop to chat before continuing to work.

There are flower pots placed in the flower shops on the street. Lush green leaves overflow from the pots and are reflected by the sunlight through the glass. The pure white lilies in the pots are particularly quiet in the sunlight.

Occasionally, some residents would bask in the sun in front of their homes, sitting in recliners and listening to music and news on the radio. A few fluffy dogs would chase cats and run happily past the street, causing a burst of laughter and shouts.

"Is it in this small town?" Vimiya asked softly to Loran Hill beside her.

"It's really a relaxing and soothing environment. Even I kind of want to live here." She gently shielded the sunlight from her head with her hands and walked with her companion on the sparsely populated street.

"Loran, there's a cat." Katie walked beside Loran Hill and pointed at a calico cat squatting on the wall not far away. Most of its body was white, with a small part of gray and black stripes. Well, it should be a hybrid of a tabby cat.

"Yes, it's still looking at us. Maybe it's curious." Loran Hill looked at the calico cat in the distance and waved his hand slightly. The cat meowed, then jumped off the wall and disappeared.

"He ran away." Keti said with a hint of loss.

"Hmm." Loran Hill felt that he might have scared the cat away.

"Let's keep going. Lettice's home seems to be on the island, not on the seashore."

"I heard she has a small manor here where she can let her pets run around while she sits in the shade of the trees, quietly watching the fruits above her slowly ripen."

"Does she have a pet too? I remember when we were in school, Letty would often quarrel with Alena about having pets." Vimiya recalled the distant campus life.

"Yes, Lettice really likes animals now. From the letters she wrote, she said she has a lot of them, including cats of various colors, squirrels that like to climb trees, and red-billed finches that nest on the roof of her house."

The three of them walked slowly along the street, gradually moving away from the port where residents gathered, and the roadsides gradually became deserted. All they could see were green and undulating fields dotted with patches of woods of varying sizes.

There are tall sycamore trees on both sides of the road, and their crowns intertwine above the road like a huge arch. Walking on this road with falling leaves is like gradually stepping into a quiet world.

The shoes stepped on the dead leaves in the road, making a slight and fine breaking sound. Occasionally, a few fallen leaves were blown by the wind and hit the ground, making a slight sound, and then fell onto the hill of fallen leaves and stopped.

Slowly turning the bend in the road several times, a courtyard surrounded by black iron fences and red bricks slowly appeared behind the hill.

"That should be it." Loran Hill looked at the map and walked forward.

Arriving at the gate, Loran Hill pressed the doorbell and waited quietly.

Not long after, the door of the mansion in the courtyard opened, and a middle-aged maid came in, asked the three people why they came, and then opened the door.

"The lady is still taking a nap and will probably not wake up for a while. However, she told me in advance that some friends will be coming over in the next two days, so we have already cleaned the room in advance." The maid walked in front and explained the situation to Roland Hill and the other two.

"Meow~" A calico cat stood on the roadside in the yard, looking at the maid passing by.

"You must be tired from playing outside, so come back." The maid bent down gently, picked up the cat, and then slowly introduced it to the three people.

"This is the cat my wife raises, but it is a little naughty and often only comes home once every few days. I guess it came back this time because it is hungry." She said while stroking the calico cat.

As you walk into the mansion, you are greeted by a slightly cool atmosphere.

"I'm sorry, there are seldom any guests in the mansion. Usually, another companion and I take turns to look after the lady." As if to express her apology, the maid explained a few words, put down the cat in her hand, and then prepared hot tea for the three of them.

The three of them sat in the hall, looking at the oil paintings on the surrounding walls. Some depicted pastoral scenery, some were portraits, and some were animals. However, the one that attracted Loran Hill the most was the painting next to the closet.

Bright azure blue occupies most of the oil painting, which is the color representing the sky. A space fighter plane flying by is painted with silver-gray paint, and the details of the fighter plane are also outlined, some clear and some blurred, including the raised rubber sealing ring at the junction of the glass cover and the fuselage, the code painted with red letters on the fuselage, and the pilot waving and smiling in the cabin. The old texture of the oil painting and the technology of the new era collide with each other, bursting out with a strange visual charm.

The picture depicts the scene when the space fighter was just successfully developed. The society was filled with excitement and expectations. At that time, the United Government had just been established, and the people who had lived in the countries of the East and West Continents for a long time got to know this vast world and the situation outside the blue sky for the first time through film and television.

The blue planet, the vast sky and the earth, people are full of curiosity, waving goodbye to the old era and entering the 60 years of rapid development.

Looking back now, it has been about 80 years since this painting was created. Loran Hill slowly drank his tea and recalled the experiences of those years.
