Chapter 225 Gufia Grassland (I)

The Gufia Grassland is extremely vast, with many orc tribes scattered throughout it. In the thousand years since the fall of the Mad Fang Empire, the only thing that could connect these orcs of different races and appearances was shamanism and faith.

Shamans were the intellectuals of the Orc Empire in ancient times. They were proficient in writing and herbs, most of them were extraordinary beings, and they could preside over some traditional rituals of the Orc tribes. They also had a high status.

Nia took Loran Hill to first find the dog-eared tribe on the edge of the grassland. This tribe had frequent contacts with humans and lived close to the west wind, which is now Clansia.

After returning to the grassland, Niya took off the hat she always wore, revealing the two curved horns behind her ears. The light brown horns matched with the fluffy chestnut shoulder-length hair made her look a little cute.

Nia approached an orc from the Dog-Eared Tribe, spread her hands, bowed slightly in greeting, and then said, "Hello, I would like to meet the shaman from my tribe."

"You want to see our shaman?" The dog-eared man in a fur robe was relatively young, about 20 years old, and looked at the goat-horned girl in confusion.

"Yes, my friend and I are students of Emenas." After saying that, Nia pointed to the badge on the button of her cloak.

"This... I don't know him either. Please wait here for a while." The young man looked at Wei Zhang and his attitude became much better. No matter where he is, the students of Emenas are still highly valued.

Seeing the young man go back to ask for instructions, Niya breathed a sigh of relief.

"Are you still a little nervous?" Loran Hill's voice came from behind, and then he walked forward and stood beside Nia.

"Still a little...but it's much better than when I first came to Emenas." Nia said recallingly.

"At that time, I didn't dare to say much because I came from a very remote place. I had never heard of many of the things people talked about. My grades were also very poor, so I felt very inferior."

"Shortly after arriving at school, I joined a small club among beastmen to keep each other warm. Things got better later."

"Niya." Loran Hill held the girl's hand and comforted her silently.

"But I'm still very grateful to Roland for helping me with my studies. He brought my grades up and made me a little more confident." Nia smiled and signaled Roland Hill not to worry.

At this time, the sound of copper bells rang out, and an old man wearing a leather coat and a long scarf with blue and yellow patterns came over, followed by two strong dog-eared guards. The two guards were holding big axes, with exposed muscles and metal armor on key parts.

"Hello, young boy, new angle, what can I do for you?"

The old man held a dry wooden staff in one hand and turned a copper bell engraved with scriptures in the other. His face was full of wrinkles and his eyes were slightly narrowed as he began to ask.

"My friend and I want to go to the wilderness area west of the grassland to fight monsters. We will pass through many other tribes on the way, so we need you to give us a flag of passage." Niya stated her request, but she was a little nervous. This was her first time to come into contact with a shaman from another tribe.

The old man looked at the two girls in front of him, his eyes wandering, the copper bell in his hand continued to turn, and he answered after a long time.

"Yes, but leave a written promise not to interfere in the affairs of other tribes."

"Okay, we can promise."

Not interfering in the affairs of other countries and organizations is something that is repeatedly emphasized in the Emenas student handbook. Nia had no other ideas and naturally agreed without hesitation.

"Okay." The shaman nodded, then asked a guard to call the tribesmen and took out a gray flag.

After showing the banner to Nia, the old shaman continued, "Do you need anything else?"

"We need four more good horses."

Afterwards, the shaman had four more horses brought. After checking them, Niya wrote down her borrowing record and the tribe she belonged to on the parchment scroll. She then smeared ink on one of her sheep's horns, wrapped the small part of the horn with the parchment scroll, and printed the spiral pattern.

The shaman looked at the words on the parchment scroll, nodded, accepted it, and let Nia take the flags and horses away.

After placing their luggage on the horses and tying them up, Niya and Loran rode their horses across the grassland.

Unlike other places, there are no obvious roads on the grassland, and there are patches of green under the vast sky.

On the way, Niya explained to Luo Lan what had just happened.

"Tribes on the grasslands often clash, sometimes even clashing with swords. If we don't carry that gray-feathered banner, we might be mistaken for spies and attacked by one side."

“Although the probability of encountering one is low, we still have to be careful.”

"Wouldn't it be very unsafe for caravans or travelers on the grassland?" Loran Hill asked curiously.

"There will be certain dangers, but most caravans are familiar with the routes. The tribes along the way are long-term partners and will provide corresponding protection to the caravans, so that the caravans will come back next time." Niya explained.

"Because there is very little food on the grasslands, the caravans from the south are our lifeline."

Hearing this, Loran Hill also became interested. "What do you usually eat? Meat?"

"This is actually a misunderstanding." Niya smiled, then said a little bitterly.

"In fact, for herders, they don't eat much meat. Their staple food is cheese, fried rice, flatbreads, etc., and they mostly drink milk and salt tea."

"Salt and tea are very much needed by every tribe on the grassland. Every caravan coming from the south will transport these things." Niya described her daily life.
