Chapter 39 Angus's Past

After signing, the contract paper glowed faintly, and then a delicate, light-colored pattern appeared on the entire paper. These patterns obscured the handwriting, but did not affect the readability. However, this also meant that it could no longer be altered. Adding words or crossing out words would destroy these delicate patterns.

Afterwards, Angus took advantage of the fact that he was still conscious and began to explain some things, such as who in the Chamber of Commerce could be trusted, who had the ability but lacked the character, and so on.

After he finished confessing, his symptoms of coughing up blood became more severe and he was about to die.

"Can I ask you one last question?" Loran Hill looked at his dying father.

"Go ahead."

"Why do you trust me so much? We have only met once before. What if I am an assassin?" Loran Hill expressed his doubts.

"Haha...cough cough..." He spat out blood and then raised his head.

"I think it's foolish to trust someone just because you've been together for a long time."

“I trust long-term and reliable interests more than I trust friendship and family.”

"People's hearts can change. He might be faithful to you today, but he could betray you tomorrow."

"I'm a businessman and I value profit. My opponents are also businessmen, and they value profit more than I do."

"It's not that I look down on them. If they can afford an assassin like you, then I accept my defeat wholeheartedly and have nothing to say."

"But would they hire an assassin like you? No, I've traveled extensively and seen all sorts of people, but I've never encountered someone as rare and knowledgeable as you. It's like two thugs fighting. Would one of them hire the king's daughter as a thug? If he could afford it, would they still fight?"

"So, I believe that you have nothing to do with them, and I also believe that you will keep your promise and protect my remaining children."

The girl still felt a little bit unbelievable. Does he really trust his own judgment of people? I myself don’t believe that I am so capable.

"Okay, after we get through this crisis, when your child grows up, I will transfer the Chamber of Commerce's property to him."

"Thank you, but that's not necessary." Surprisingly, Angus didn't care whether the property was returned to his descendants.

"My child is only 10 years old, and I don't know what he will become. If he doesn't turn out well, giving him such a large fortune will only harm him. He will be targeted, and if he lacks the ability, he will easily fall into other people's traps and ruin his life. I just want him to grow up peacefully, live a stable life, get married and have children, and not end up like me."

"What if he grows up to be a very capable person?" the girl asked curiously.

"Then there's even less need to worry. He will achieve everything through his own strength. Although there will be some troubles in the early stages, the satisfaction, pride, and sense of accomplishment after success are irreplaceable and will stay with him for the rest of his life."

"So you only need to protect him until he gets married. As for the property under my name, you can use it as you wish."

"Ceres, Chelsea, thank you for your hard work over the years. I will also trouble you to assist this respected young lady in the future."

"We will, please rest assured, sir." The butler and the head maid beside him looked at Angus, who was breathing more than he was breathing, and promised sadly.

"I have several properties in Hopeland. Can I give one to each of these two loyal servants?" Angus looked up at Loran Hill and asked.

"No problem, after all, it was originally yours." The girl didn't care at all. In her opinion, she could even give more.

"Thank you." Angus handed the keepsake, suicide note and other valuables to Loran Hill, and then asked the two servants to move away for a distance. He had something to say to Loran Hill alone.

After the butler and the head maid left, Loran Hill walked to a stone beside Angus and sat down, looking at the man who was about to die.

"Do you have anything else to say?"

Angus leaned against the boulder, his eyes fixed on the clouds in the sky. "I never thought I would end my life here."

"Can you listen to my loser story?"

"Um."

"A long time ago, I grew up in the West Wind Kingdom. I relied on my father being a baron to cause trouble everywhere. I was a bastard boy." He said.

"Until one day I met Elaine's mother. She was a young lady from a declining noble family. Her family had lost all their territory and could only live in poverty."

"I laughed at her parents for making a fool of themselves trying to look respectable, and I thought she would be angry, but she ignored me."

Angus's eyes were a little dazed. "So I teased her, saying she was ugly and scaring her with bugs."

"But she remained unmoved and continued to sit under the tree reading. Her quiet appearance suddenly touched my heart."

"I'm curious why she's not angry. What's so proud of her?"

"I asked around and learned that their family was actually very poor. Her mother was a vain person who often lost her temper because she wasn't getting what she wanted, and she often took her anger out on her at home."

"Under normal circumstances, such children will often become timid, withdrawn, and have strange temperaments."

"But she didn't. I was very curious, so I finally ran over to ask her one day."

"She told me that my mother was the unpopular fourth daughter in her family in her early years, so she was particularly concerned about her reputation. This hurt her heart and left a gap, so she longed to fill this wound."

"But wouldn't your heart be hurt when your mother beats and scolds you like this?" I asked curiously.
