Central Empire, Purple Mountain Province
This province is approximately 800 kilometers away from the imperial capital, Titaneia. Although it seems far away, it is very close compared to the vast empire. Therefore, such an area is particularly valued by the empire.
Kuwen County, a remote area in the Purple Mountain Province, is covered with mountains and is therefore very barren. Only two barons have their fiefs here.
The once quiet and sparsely populated territory is now filled with the sounds of bustling voices and clashing weapons.
A dark red meteorite streaked across the sky, leaving behind a billowing trail of thick smoke and flames, crashing into the earth and splashing out spreading hot flames.
The air was filled with hot air, mixed with the sparks and crackling sounds of burning grass and trees, spreading in all directions.
"Go on! Let the flames burn all the mountains clean." On a hill, the commander in military uniform roared while waving his sword.
Behind him stood a team of about 200 wizards. These red-robed magicians worked together to cast spells, causing burning meteorites to fall, shaking and shattering the world before them.
At the foot of the mountain, the new army corps armed with muskets and bayonets formed a network, walking on the charred earth, searching and checking for possible survivors, and finishing off the enemy from time to time.
Although this is within the Empire, war is still inevitable, and the two sides are the army loyal to the Emperor and the rebels who started the rebellion.
Years ago, because the local nobles failed to suppress the rebel army, the rebel army in Zishan Province spread to several surrounding provinces, gradually triggering a chain reaction, which finally attracted the attention of the bigwigs in the imperial capital.
Under the strict orders of the regent and many great nobles, armies from all sides were mobilized to begin suppressing the rebellion led by the Purple Shirt Province.
These local rebels were very familiar with the terrain and had sufficient intelligence. They relied on various tactics and strategies to fight the invading army in the mountains, causing considerable casualties to the enemy.
As the general in command was unable to complete the mission quickly, a new commander was appointed, one of the Regent's closest confidants. This decisive and ruthless general, under his cold-blooded tactics, reduced the Purple Shirt Province to a sea of fire. The mage team's blanket attack destroyed the rebels' previous geographical advantages, and the local residents they had relied on also perished in large numbers.
Their advantages gradually disappeared, their numbers dwindled, and now it was the final moment.
In a huge cave hidden among the mountains in the boundless sea of fire, more than 1,000 people gathered here.
Their faces were covered in ashes, and their bodies were covered in wounds and dust. Some were seriously injured and had to make hoarse sounds of pain.
In a corner of the cave, a dozen leaders of the rebel army gathered here, almost all of them were injured, with blood and dust staining their bodies and clothes.
"Tokolin, we can't hold on for much longer." A sturdy man with one blind eye leaned against the loess mountain wall, covering his wound and speaking slowly. His thick wrist was like that of a giant, but now it looked tired and gray.
"The Imperial Legion is determined to wipe us out this time."
"Haha, this is even bigger than the one we used against the Pascal family. They really think highly of us." Several voices rang out in this small and stuffy environment.
"There were more than 30,000 people during the uprising, more than 200,000 at the peak, and now there are less than a thousand left... I feel sorry for those who entrusted their lives to me." A scarred man murmured in a low voice, with a rusty machete at his side, and the copper-colored mottled handle was badly worn.
"There's no escape. There's fire all around us, and there are patrolling Sharp-Eyed Monsters in the sky, hunting down anyone who makes it out of the sea of fire alive."
"Let's fight them." The rest of the people looked at the man in the middle who was breathing with his eyes closed.
His name is Tokolin, and he is the core leader of this rebel army. However, compared to another similar person on the continent, he is not so lucky.
The empire is not the west wind. It has a more powerful foundation. Anyone who wants to shake it is doomed to suffer a bloody head and suffer a lot.
After a brief silence, Tokolin slowly opened his eyes and scanned the people present one by one. Those familiar faces were still as passionate as fire. Even when facing desperate situations, they did not sigh or regret or feel sad.
Suddenly, he laughed, for no reason and unexpectedly.
"Hahaha...hahaha..." The laughter puzzled everyone present, but they looked at Tokolin quietly. They believed that this man could always give a satisfactory explanation.
"Yes, that's right. We are all going to die. We are all going to be burned in this fire and picked up by the soldiers with their spears, becoming their trophies for show."
His voice was extremely slow.
"However, I am not desperate or sad. I anticipated this day coming a long time ago. Sometimes I am even surprised that I have survived another day."
"Compared to those stubborn and insensitive people, our existence is so puzzling and unacceptable to ordinary people."
"Isn't it good to be alive?"
"Of course, life is great, but there are some things that always attract me and make me want to try them. It's an obsession that will make me regret it for the rest of my life if I don't do it."
"I originally thought this was just my own fantasy. But fortunately, I met you and so many companions."
"Those who challenge an elephant will eventually be trampled by it. Our actions truly have little chance of success. I myself have doubted their significance countless times, but today, I finally have the answer."
