Chapter 998: Battle for the Gate

Outside the city, two powerful new forces also began to fight.

The Eastern Legion, which was originally attacking the city, was attacked from the side and rear, and everyone was in panic for a while. Fortunately, the general leading the troops at this time was General Sifley, one of the "Three Victorious Generals" who was quite famous in the empire.

This general, who also came from a low-class background, had once received favor from the current queen in Emenas and was one of the few queen's supporters in the empire. Although he held an important position stationed in the imperial capital, the regent acquiesced to this change after long consideration.

Red Queen Lily has very few confidants and influence. If even Sifrey is to be removed, it will greatly stimulate the conflicts within the royal family, which is not what Edlund wants to see.

After receiving the emergency signal from the palace, the general immediately led his men to count the soldiers and prepared to enter the city to rescue, but was stopped by the guards at the city gate. This delayed them for a certain amount of time until the army was attacked from the side by the Western Army.

"Is that you? Dulcie."

On the rain-blurred field, Sifley rode on his horse, wearing a gray cloak and holding a spear, looking at the general on the opposite side who was leading the cavalry to continuously break through the line.

Facing Sifley's questioning, the ruthless general said nothing, but responded with a more fierce attack. Wherever his spear went, there was a splash of rain and blood, thick shields were shattered, and the solid lines collapsed layer by layer.

"Shoot!" Facing the approaching enemy general, Sifley waved his hand, and a burst of dense bow and crossbow sounds rang out. The enchanted Roshikin crossbow arrows swarmed out, knocking down the cavalry in front in rows, and rolling into the muddy rain.

Compared to muskets, these enchanted supernatural mechanical crossbows are more effective and powerful in the rain.

Soon the charging cavalry fell, and Darcy was the only one left charging forward.

"That's really too reckless." Sifrey shook his head, briefly commented on his former colleague, then rode his horse back slowly, allowing the fully armored cavalrymen to move forward one by one.

These armored heavy cavalrymen were all elite Sequence 5 warriors, including two Sequence 6 Transcendents. As they rode forward, resonant magic surged and boiled, and a layer of ferocious bright red began to adhere to their weapons.

Devil Sequence 5: Blood Cavalry, War Sequence 5: Crossing Knights

The former possesses skills and abilities that greatly increase lethality, while the latter can better combine the magic of his comrades, enabling them to resonate and cooperate, making him a natural-born officer.

They often carried out mixed formations and staggered attacks, cutting and exposing the front line like saw teeth. They were subordinates carefully cultivated by Sifrey.

After only a short distance, these cavalrymen pushed their speed to the extreme and rushed towards the sudden attacking general in the heavy rain.

The ferocious red blade cut a brief arc of light in the air, and instantly slashed down with splashing rain, and was then cut off and broken by the steel-like figure.

In the pouring rain, the arcs of light from the cavalrymen's swords were like extremely turbulent water, rushing down one after another without interruption.

Some were directly chopped by Darcy, some were blocked by him, leaving traces of debris and marks on the armor, and some kept falling behind to find gaps in the attack, cutting small wounds and sending a splash of blood in the air.

The battle continued. After two complete rounds of continuous charges, the "God of War" gasped and slowly stood up on his horse. Nearly a hundred cavalry corpses were lying under him, but he was like a rock and still did not fall.

Taking a deep breath of the rain-mixed air, the general attacked again. He alone had the momentum of thousands of troops, which made the enemy soldiers tremble with fear.

Sifley snorted coldly at the scene and couldn't help but frown.

He really didn't want to fight with this former god of war, because the army he led had a more important mission. Now Her Majesty the Queen was still waiting for his rescue, and he really had no time to waste on this.

"Enchanted crossbow, ready, shoot!"

He was not good at close combat and could only use bows and arrows to stop the enemy. Unfortunately, in this storm, the accuracy dropped a lot, and only a small number of them hit Darcy who was moving at high speed. Most of them were swept away by his spear.

"You lead the troops directly into the city to rescue His Majesty. Blood Front Cavalry, follow me!" Sifley had to divide his troops and then personally lead them to stop his former colleague.

"Yes, sir."

Then a group of cavalrymen directly broke open the city gate that was burned by the chariots and fought with the defenders on the ground. They broke through continuously and with difficulty and began to approach the palace.

Looking back at the soldiers who were carrying out orders, Sifley turned around, rode his horse forward, and galloped at high speed in the rain like an eagle, directly colliding with the advancing Darcy.

The two spears collided in the air, causing a loud noise and splashing water, which deafened the eardrums of some nearby soldiers and took a long time to recover.

"What temptation did you accept, Darcy!" Sifley fired a powerful shot, deflecting the stabbing attack and questioned loudly.

"Have you forgotten how His Majesty overcame all odds to bring you to the fore and even arranged a marriage for you?"

The cold and stern question spread throughout the army, causing countless soldiers to prick up their ears.

However, the cold-blooded man remained silent, seemingly accepting and simultaneously denying the question completely.

The generals of both sides fought back and forth in the heavy rain, and neither could defeat the other in a short time. Soon after, a group of soldiers trudging quickly in the rain gradually approached.

They stepped on the splashing water, carefully untied the oil paper wrapped around the muskets in the cold rain, then quickly lined up and aimed at the enemy.
