"You'd better walk faster. I don't have time to wait for you." After walking for a distance, Viscount Mo Ruo turned around and looked at the girl and said in a low voice.
"Yes, sir." After hearing the reprimand, the girl shuddered with fear and answered in a low and uneasy voice.
"Hmph." Viscount Mo Ruo turned around again, and the three of them slowly walked towards a hidden place in the forest.
Finally, the three of them stopped under a big rock, which was about two miles away from the castle, and it was hard to say whether it was far or near.
After stopping here, the butler followed the order and went forward to find a hidden corner under the boulder. He input some magic power, and soon after, the stone slowly turned, revealing the passage underneath.
The three of them held torches and lanterns and walked into the dark passage, and then the boulder slowly closed again.
Walking in this underground passage, the world seemed to be quiet. The only sounds you could hear were the subtle crackling of the torches and the whirring of flames cutting through the air.
The surrounding walls are relatively flat, and the steps under your feet show no signs of weathering or aging. It looks like they were built in the past ten years.
After the three of them walked in this long passage for a long time, the surrounding walls and steps turned into another style, more primitive and full of traces of erosion by time.
The walls were covered in exposed gray-black bricks, some of which had been pressed askew. The steps beneath were also broken and incomplete, filled with gaps and rubble. Walking on them would easily lead to a fall.
After walking up the long and quiet stairs, everything around me became quieter and quieter, more and more depressing. The world on the ground seemed to become a very distant existence, but the sound of my own breathing was so clear.
"We're here." Viscount Mo Ruo's voice sounded, without any surprise or excitement, only fatigue and anxiety.
He turned his head again and looked at the young girl in the firelight. He was silent for a while, then stepped aside, revealing the scene behind him.
This was a small, enclosed space, with a stone wall at the end of the square passage. A skull relief was painted on the wall, along with a crescent moon, its body entwined with branches and filled with wisteria flowers.
This was the Mercury Dynasty's emblem, and judging by its style, it still resembled the earlier era. Although the square space was empty, if one reached in, one could feel a repulsive force, a sense of being drained of life and corroded.
This is the seal left behind by the former Mercury Dynasty. To force one's way in, one must possess at least Sequence 8 strength. This will also trigger the self-destruction secret technique left within, forcing the intruder to return empty-handed.
In order to fight against the Orc Empire and the Elf Kingdoms during the difficult times, the Mercury Dynasty built dungeons in various places in the early days. These dungeons are not suitable for living beings, but have little effect on undead creatures. They have the advantage of fighting at home and use this to put up a tenacious resistance.
And if they really cannot resist evacuation later, the things that cannot be taken away will be sealed.
Viscount Moruo, through his over a decade of research and translation of ancient texts, had determined that this place contained a "holy relic" acquired during the Mercury Dynasty. Compared to ordinary artifacts, "holy relic" possessed extraordinary powers, and these objects were not crafted by humans or elves, but rather inherited from the gods.
Just as the witch is a fragment of the god, the holy object is an even smaller fragment. Although these fragments are separated from the crown and it is difficult to return to it, they still retain a little bit of power.
The 'holy relic', representing the might of the gods, has been sought after by various organizations and heroes for epochs. Possessing it allows even ordinary Sequence 9s to temporarily withstand the terrifying power of a witch. This is also the reason why the 'Sage Council' can keep many witches in check.
The 'Sages' Association', which brings together legendary heroes, still retains a large number of 'holy objects'. Although they are not often used, they serve as a powerful deterrent and have always guaranteed the supremacy of this organization.
There are red rust-like marks on the gray-white stone wall, which seem to be caused by groundwater infiltration. Against the backdrop of these marks, the skulls and crescent moons on the wall appear even more dilapidated, as if abandoned by time.
"What a pity." Looking at the unreachable stone wall, Viscount Mo Ruo murmured, then stretched out his hand and felt the resistance in the square passage again.
His hand seemed to touch a soft barrier. With extraordinary perception, a fresh and warm energy slowly flowed through his body. Before his body was damaged, Viscount Mo Ruo withdrew his hand again.
Currently, he only had Sequence 3 strength, which was considered average among the nobles, and he hadn't made any progress in years.
Before the changes in the world, he still had the strength of Sequence 4. After everything changed, cultivation seemed to become even more difficult for him. Now that he has recovered to Sequence 3, there has been no change.
Thinking of this, he shook his head again, then took out the holy white sphere in his arms, held it in his palm, and reached out again.
At that moment, the sticky resistance in the air seemed to be neutralized, becoming weaker, and he was able to slowly move forward, finally touching the skull on the wall. Bits of stone chips and dust peeled off the wall and fell into his palm. He tentatively injected magic power or dripped blood into the skull, but still no response.
Seeing this, he turned his head and looked at the girl not far behind him.
"You, come here."
The girl raised her face, touched her hands with some fear, then walked over with small steps with her head lowered.
Compared to Viscount Mo Ruo, this girl encountered much less resistance. But even so, her face turned pale and her body seemed to be shaky.
When she got close to the stone wall, Viscount Mo Ruo grabbed the girl's hand and scratched a small cut with his fingernails, letting the blood flow out.
