Chapter 1018 Drowning in the Light

The horses pulling the carriage were already exhausted and gradually slowed down. Only then did Lily carefully lean out of the door.

The carriage stopped where it was. Lily led Hulls down the steps, stepped into the calf-deep grass, and looked around.

"I'm glad Your Majesty is still alive." A familiar voice came from the front of the carriage. Lily turned around and found that it was the witch who usually treated her.

The witch's gray robe was covered in blood, and her cloak and coat were full of tatters and holes. She and the only Northern knight driving the carriage jumped off the carriage, walked slowly to Lily, and checked her and Hels.

After discovering that the little prince was fine and Lily was only slightly injured, their expressions relaxed a little.

Lily: "Where is this place?"

Witch: "It's not clear yet, but we should have left the Oyster Plains. The grass here is obviously different from that over there."

The witch squatted down, a tiny ball of light lit up in the palm of her hand, reflecting the earth full of insects' chirping. She pushed aside the weeds under her feet and observed carefully.

"This side seems to be more fertile. It looks like there's been plenty of rain, which means we're probably not far from the coastline."

"It's good news." The knight wearing a helmet spoke in a deep voice.

The witch said, "Your Majesty, please rest for a while. We will take turns keeping watch. Although we are not completely out of danger yet, the horse's strength is almost at its limit, and it is difficult to tell the direction at night."

"That's all we can do."

Lily, who had escaped again, nodded, took Hels to eat some food, and then returned to the carriage to rest.

Lying on the sofa in the carriage, Lily's eyes drifted towards the lonely starry sky outside the window, but she felt a little insomniac at the moment.

The thrilling escape for several days had already made her nerves tense and tired, but at this moment she couldn't fall asleep.

I was afraid that I would never wake up again, and when I woke up I would see bodies falling around me.

I could only toss and turn on the side seat of the carriage, feeling so uncomfortable, awake and in pain, until very late.

It's another early morning.

The air was still filled with the cool mist of the night. Darcy strode across yesterday's battlefield, looking at the corpses that had already stiffened at his feet.

Most of them are Knights of the North, and only a few are members of the Order of the Rose.

"You said you met Ghost Rider last night?" His voice was still so cold and solemn.

"Yes, sir. It was difficult for those ghost knights to hurt him with ordinary means. We later dealt with him gradually through resonance and formation."

"So, while you were busy dealing with the new enemy, you let Her Majesty the Queen escape?" The voice was cold and mocking, making the knights standing by feel guilty.

Darcy did not participate in yesterday's battle. He was leading another group of people to defend other checkpoints and did not arrive here until later. By then, Lily had already escaped.

Shortly after he lost track of Lily in the North, he received a special order to lead the Rose Knights on a thousand-mile raid to the East to deploy defenses.

That special silver-purple maid seemed to know and guess Lily's direction, and made Darcy prepare in advance.

"We can't fail this time, Darcy." Before leaving, the maid sat on a high rock and looked down at the general below, without the same respect and fear as others.

Fortunately, there were no outsiders at the time, otherwise many people would be curious about the origins of this maid and how she dared to treat the empire's number one general in such a commanding tone.

"I see."

Darcy answered in a low voice. He knew that the witch had become a little impatient after several failures.

Walking through the messy battlefield ruins and stepping over the broken weapons and flags on the ground, Darcy finally arrived at the place where Lily had escaped.

The heavy wheels drew several huge arcs on the ground and headed towards somewhere in the east.

After re-determining the direction, Darcy no longer hesitated or stopped, and galloped towards the traces left by the wheel tracks with the members of the Order of the Rose.

Half a day later, Lily spotted the enemy chasing her from behind as if to demand her life.

"Now we have no choice but to get off the carriage and escape on horseback." Seeing this, the witch ordered the knight to cut off the wooden frame hanging on the horse.

After helping Lily and Hels onto the carriage, the witch began to instruct Lily which direction to go and where to turn.

"What about you?" After hearing this, Lily immediately looked at the witch below.

"I will buy your Majesty some last bit of time."

With that, she patted the horse's rump and told Lily and the other to start off.

Gradually, gradually, when Lily turned around again, she could only see a blurry figure in her vision.

Soon the scarlet knights came chasing after them, drowning the two tiny figures like a tide. A violent explosion sounded, and Lily knew that she would never see those two people again.

Tears rolled down her cheeks, but she had no time to wipe them away.

If she had not left the Rose Palace at that time, but died directly there, would so many innocent lives not have been involved?

Self-blame, repentance, depression, discomfort, despair, and other emotions echoed in her heart like violent tides. She felt like she was riding in a boat that was about to capsize and could be drowned by these emotions at any time.

Lily held the reins tightly in her hands, and kept urging the warhorse under her crotch to gallop as if she had lost her sense of pain. Her mind began to go blank, and she just relied on instinct to move forward.

Finally, the warhorse under his crotch collapsed from exhaustion.

It lay on its side with its mouth open, its heart beating like a scorching furnace, white saliva spitting out of its mouth and its body twitching.
