Looking at this paradise-like mountain village, Jenna couldn't help but speak.
"Where is this?"
"Well... well, this village doesn't have a specific name. We just followed the instructions of the villagers in the surrounding villages and walked all the way here." Sophie pointed her finger at her chin and said while thinking.
"Let me help you sit over there for a while. There's a tree stump there."
Sophie helped Jenna to an apple tree, then slowly put her down and let her sit on the stump.
"It's very peaceful here." Jenna looked at the people working in the fields. They wore hats on their heads and sweat on their cheeks, but when they were tired they would sit aside from time to time to rest and chat with others.
"Yes, why don't we stay here for a few more days? We won't leave until the villagers have harvested their apples anyway."
"I'm afraid that won't work. I'm still being hunted, and I'm afraid it will implicate you." Jenna shook her head.
"Hunting, have you committed some serious crime?"
Sophie jumped up in surprise and looked at the young girl. At first she thought that she had accidentally fallen while traveling in the mountains, and her body was covered with bruises and small scratches.
"A crime, I'm afraid. I offended some people from the Halberd Clan."
"What is the Changji Sect? I've never heard of it." Sophie looked at the girl in confusion.
"Don't you know the Changji Sect? They are a group of mercenaries who used to be abroad and then returned to their country..." Jenna explained.
"Hey, but this is Clancy. It seems you have run very far." Hearing this, Sophie breathed a sigh of relief and patted her chest.
"As long as you don't violate the laws of Crancia, it's fine. Otherwise, we can't protect you. As for Black Rock, I don't know about it. They don't dare to come here anyway." Sophie sat down on the grass next to Jenna again.
Hearing this familiar name, Clancy, reminded Jenna of the old West Wind. Her father had been a mercenary there for many years and had told her many stories about it. She had a certain disdain for its corruption, but she hadn't expected her own country to be any better, just as bad.
"How is Clancia now? I'm from Black Rock, so I know very little about this country. My only experience was that year when I passed by Red Gravel City on an airship. But that was Clancia's big city, and I haven't been anywhere else."
"Very good." Sophie said simply.
"Although there are occasional disasters, everyone can basically eat enough and no one will starve to death. The country is currently very peaceful."
"Besides, there are really no bandits and checkpoints collecting money now, which is the best thing." Sophie commented, recalling her childhood experiences.
"It used to be very difficult to do business. Not only did you have to pay various tolls and taxes, but you also had to be careful about being robbed. Now the security is very good. You won't see robberies as long as you walk on the main road. Even if someone does something bad, you have to be very careful because the law enforcement agencies are very powerful and they have all kinds of methods to catch people."
"That sounds good."
Jenna nodded doubtfully. Perhaps it was just the good environment in this area, and there were no bandits or robbers in the country. She didn't quite believe that. In fact, many robbers were not completely independent professionals. A considerable number of them were local villagers playing guest roles. Hiding in this area, it was actually very difficult to eliminate them.
"Jena, don't you believe it?"
"No, maybe it's because I've never seen it before, and I can't accept it for a while." Jenna felt a little embarrassed. It was indeed impolite of her to do so.
"Haha, it's nothing. If I told someone two years ago, they would have said it was a fairy tale."
"But it's really different now, Clancy."
Sophie looked at the field in the sun and suddenly stood up.
"Wait for me." After saying that, the girl jumped down the hillside and ran down the hillside covered with green grass. She opened her hands and shouted a cheerful tune.
Soon the girl jumped over a few stones in the grass, leaped high, and then fell down, slowly turning into a little person in Jenna's sight.
Finally, Sophie stopped under the shade of a tree where a fruit farmer was sitting with a bamboo basket on his back.
She seemed to say something, and then the fruit farmer took out a few fruits from the bamboo basket behind him and put them in Sophie's open pocket.
Then Sophie smiled and nodded, then walked back with the fruits. Seeing Jenna looking at her, she waved a few times.
The weather at the end of April was no longer cold. Jenna sat in the shade of a tree. A little sunlight shone through the tender leaves and fell on her body, making her feel warm.
After a while, Sophie climbed up the hill again and walked to Jenna's side. She was breathing slightly and there were a few beads of sweat on her forehead.
"Huh, I finally climbed up." She slumped down beside Jenna, her back resting on Jenna's waist, her legs apart, and a few yellow fruits rolled out of her skirt pocket and fell into the green grass.
"Thank you for your hard work." Jenna felt the still breathing body, as if a stove was leaning against her.
"Give."
Sophie took out a fruit and handed it to Jenna. The light yellow skin was very smooth, and only when you looked closely could you see faint small dots. It was a yellow apple.
"By the way, I'd better wipe it." Sophie took back the apple belatedly, wiped it clean on the side of her skirt, and then handed it back to Jenna.
"Thank you." Jenna took it, and Sophie's fingers fell into her palm like warm stones, and then disappeared in a flash.
A yellow apple doesn't mean it's unripe; some apples are naturally yellow. When you take a bite, a sweet taste accompanied by juice fills your mouth, making you want to eat more.
