Chapter 50 Delivering Information

After lunch at noon, the convoy of the Carites Chamber of Commerce finally rested and set off again.

One by one, the caravan members dismantled the tents, rolled them up, and moved them neatly onto the carriages. The seriously injured were made to lie down on the carriages, while the less seriously injured continued on horseback. Not long into the afternoon, they arrived at Huangye Town outside the mountains.

Generally speaking, the Wilga Business Alliance is mountainous in the west and relatively flat in the east. After leaving Huangye Town, the roads are basically flat, the cities and population are denser, and safety is greatly improved.

The mayor of Huangye Town looked at the bandaged and bloodied convoy with a shudder of fear. When had such powerful bandits appeared nearby? If the Carites Chamber of Commerce reported this to the Alliance Guild, his tenure as mayor would be over.

He brought various herbs, liquor, food and local specialties, and asked the caravan to accept them, and then hoped to meet Miss Lacey of the Carites Chamber of Commerce.

Originally, Loran Hill didn't want to meet the mayor. She knew that this matter had little to do with the mayor, but then she thought that this was a good opportunity, so she agreed to meet the mayor.

So that afternoon, in the suburbs outside Huangye Town, a huge parasol was set up on the ground, and a convoy was parked not far away. Loran Hill invited the mayor to meet him there.

The mayor of Huangye Town was a middle-aged man in his fifties, wearing a slightly rustic brown dress. Led by two riders, he met the legendary Miss Lacey.

She was wearing an exquisite light red dress, with her satin hair draped over her shoulders. She sat upright on a white wooden chair under a parasol. In front of her was a small round table of the same white color, on which were placed two teacups and a teapot. The tea sets were all made of oriental white porcelain with gorgeous gilded patterns on them.

When the mayor approached, the girl's clear blue eyes came into view. For a moment, he was so stunned by her beauty.

Chelsea, the head maid behind Loran Hill, coughed twice to remind the distracted mayor that although she knew how rare her eldest daughter's appearance was, she also didn't like others looking at her rudely.

The mayor finally reacted and quickly lowered his head to introduce himself.

"I'm Lourdes of Huangye Town. I'm honored to serve as the mayor. I was deeply horrified to hear about Miss Lacy's plight, and I've specially sent some supplies. I hope Miss Lacy will accept them as a humble token of my apology."

"Judging from your accent, Mr. Mayor, you are not a local, right?" Loran Hill's voice came from the front, as light and pleasant as a clear spring in the mountains.

"Yes, Miss Lacey is indeed very perceptive. I grew up in the southern Mangrove Islands and later came to Verga with my parents."

"Is it the Cranberry Principality? I heard there are a lot of mages there?"

"Yes, but unfortunately I didn't have the talent to become a magician. I only learned a few arithmetic and characters before dropping out of school."

At this point, Lourdes revealed a slightly regretful expression. After the Cranberry Principality and the Hinayue Council united, they began promoting education throughout their territory. Those with outstanding qualifications could become apprentices and embark on the path of magic. This was also the reason why the Southern Islands, despite its small size, could still stand on equal footing with some larger nations.

Judging from its comprehensive strength, even compared with the seven countries in the Xuehua Alliance, it can be ranked in the upper middle position.

The Hinazuki Council and the United Kingdom of Cranberries, referred to as the Hinazuki Kingdom, are both famous countries with a population dominated by magicians, just like Lurna. The origins of the magicians of the two countries are also complicated. Due to different philosophies, they regard each other as enemies.

This competition and confrontation has to start from its source, which is the Land of Oz more than a thousand years ago. After the disintegration of the Mercury Dynasty, most of the extraordinary people in the dynasty's magic sequence were absorbed by the Land of Oz, and its leaders were the two great witches of the Mercury Dynasty.

One is Dorothy, the witch of time and space, and the other is the witch of disguise whose real name is unknown. Legend has it that her appearance changes in a thousand ways, and she is also called the head of the red lotus. Her natural disaster red lotus technique can burn mountains and boil seas, destroying everything.

Led by two great witches, the Kingdom of Oz was once the most powerful nation in the Western Continent, a sacred place for countless magical orders. Its capital's Astronomical Academy rivaled that of Emenas College. Leveraging magical technology, the kingdom developed new magical warships and various combat arms. Furthermore, it maintained frequent exchanges with the Plantagenet Empire in the East.

In the early days of the Plantagenet dynasty, China provided a large amount of talent and materials to the country. Even the vast ocean between them could not stop the enthusiasm for exchanges between the two countries. Later, China co-founded a new college in the Plantagenet dynasty, which deeply influenced the subsequent development of the Plantagenet dynasty.

But this powerful country that was favored by everyone fell soon after. It was the Green Kingdom that rose rapidly in those days and was later renamed the Green Empire that defeated them.

After the destruction of the Land of Oz, its magicians were forced to flee. Some headed west and were accepted by the Kingdom of Lurna, forming the present-day Land of Alchemy and Magecraft. Others headed south to the Southern Islands. Due to the fragmented nature of the Southern Islands, this part split into three councils: the Young Moon Council, the Crescent Moon Council, and the Full Moon Council. It wasn't until over 200 years ago, when the Young Moon Council defeated the other two councils, that the lands were reunited.

After the unification of the Hinata Council, it united with the local secular Cranberry Principality to become the present Hinata Kingdom.

-------------

Loran Hill looked at the somewhat terrified mayor in front of him and knew that he was worried about losing his position in the future, so he took the opportunity to convey the news that outsiders had attacked the heir of the large chamber of commerce in Wilga, attempting to disintegrate the chamber of commerce.

All businessmen are afraid that their hard-earned wealth will be plundered by others, so this kind of attack on the heir of the Chamber of Commerce will attract great attention and be strongly rejected.

As long as the mayor keeps conveying the message to the outside world that the attackers are not bandits but well-trained professional soldiers, he can avoid punishment because this is not a problem he can solve.

However, the existence of professional soldiers within the Wilga Merchant Alliance sparked widespread discussion, with the spearhead directed at either the West Wind nobles or the other major chambers within the alliance. To avoid suspicion and perhaps to avoid irritating the other chambers, the hidden enemies of the Carites Chamber of Commerce were cautious in the future, greatly reducing the possibility of further attacks and assassinations.

This was because if the orphaned heiress of the Carites Chamber of Commerce died during this period, it would cause a huge uproar in Verga, and other chambers of commerce would feel deeply concerned and make every effort to investigate and hunt for the murderer to prevent such a thing from happening to them.

And this is exactly what Loran Hill wants to see.
