Loran Hill heard the argument between the two parties and paid a little attention, only to find out that the two parties had a conflict over the transaction.
It turned out that the merchant sold a batch of wheat to these northern travelers yesterday, but later when these people returned, they found that the wheat was short of weight, which was obviously not in line with the weight agreed upon at the time.
"How can you explain this? Didn't you confirm it at that time? Now you go back on your word." The vendor stood on the wooden box and loudly rejected these people, attracting the attention of people around him.
"Do you think we southerners are easy to bully? How could you do that? You only claim the weight is less after we've spent the night there. Isn't that bullying?" He was unyielding, talking nonchalantly and pointing at the group of northerners in black clothes below him.
"But it is indeed less. Yesterday you said it was too late and too cold, and kept urging me to come and check." A thin man from the Northern Territory argued. Judging from his appearance, he seemed to be a scholar. He rarely quarreled with others with such a red face and thick neck, and he lacked momentum.
"Ha, are you blaming me for this? I've told you so many times that you should check it out by yourselves. Who knows if you secretly hid some of it when you went back and tried to blackmail me." The merchant with a small mustache looked unconvinced and didn't listen to these people's explanations at all.
"I'm telling you, don't think about bullying a small fry like me. This is Iron Hill City, the southern border of the empire, where the Royal Legion is stationed. The swords in your hands won't work."
As he said this, he looked around and saw a few soldiers from the legion patrolling the streets. Seeing this scene, they smiled and then ignored it, as if they had agreed.
"You!" The people below were so angry that they were about to draw their swords, but were stopped by their companions.
"No, no, let's just leave it at that. Let's go back and think of a solution." An older traveler from the North stopped them and walked towards the other corner of the street.
"Are you just going to let that cunning guy go? I can kill him with one sword." The person who spoke was a knight of War Sequence 4. He was wearing armor and a black smock. His accent was very rough, not like the standard one in the central part of the empire.
"Don't cause trouble. This place is too far from the north. If we have a conflict with the local nobles and officers, we will be the ones who suffer in the end." The old man sighed helplessly.
A northerner? Loranhill recalled what he had learned in Emenas. It was a cold place, mostly forests and hills. A small part of the plains was also covered with frost. Only a few seasons of the year were warm.
"You go back first. Miss Charlene should have arranged a place for us to stay." Loran Hill said to the girl beside him, and then asked a familiar member of the Roentgen caravan to lead her in.
"Yes." The girl agreed, waved to Luo Lanxier and walked in. After spending the past two days together, she gradually stopped being as scared as she was at the beginning.
After watching the girl go in, Loran Hill turned and walked towards the Northerners, who happened to be entering a restaurant nearby for dinner.
"Hello, would you like something to eat?" As soon as I entered, the clerk walked over quickly. I didn't know whether he was enthusiastic or simply attracted by the girl's appearance.
"Give me something to drink, and some bread to take away." In fact, Loran Hill was not hungry, after all, he had just come out of the bar, but now that he was in, it would be unreasonable not to order anything.
"Okay." The clerk quickly wrote it down and was then called over by other customers.
The girl glanced around the store. There weren't many customers right now, probably because it wasn't mealtime. The black knights from the North were particularly conspicuous.
After sitting for a while, Loran Hill prepared his speech and stood up and walked over.
"Hello, I just heard you arguing with that merchant outside, so I came over to find out what happened." Loran Hill greeted them gracefully. Although he was a little nervous in his heart, at least he didn't appear as restrained as before.
"Hello, what's going on?"
They looked at the girl cautiously. She was wearing beautiful silver armor and had a longsword at her waist. She looked like an adventurer. While beautiful, she was unfamiliar with the area, and they didn't want to cause trouble.
"I want to know about the situation in the north, because I heard that there was a snowstorm there recently, and I have a friend who happens to be from there." The girl's words were not false. There were indeed several of her former classmates who were from the north of the empire.
Hearing this, the few people calmed down a little, but still answered cautiously.
"It has been snowing in the north for more than a year now, and food is in short supply, so we came south to purchase it." This is not a secret and you can guess it with a little inquiry.
"So that's how it is. Has this situation happened before, or is it just special this year?" Loran Hill asked curiously.
Because the girl was very pretty, the black knights explained patiently.
"This kind of situation has happened in previous years, but not as severe as this year. It has also gradually eased in the past, but now it looks like it will continue next year, which is very dangerous."
Because this world has mana and magic, weather changes are affected by more factors and are not as balanced as in the previous life.
"I heard from the wizards of the Treyi family that this is most likely the work of the ice elves in the north, but there is no concrete evidence at the moment, and it is difficult to target them." A young knight suddenly spoke up, expressing the resentment that had been suppressed in his heart for a long time.
"Ice elf?" the girl asked in surprise.
"Finans!" A great knight at the table frowned and called out the young knight's name, seeming unhappy with his careless disclosure of information.
"Yes, sir." The young knight immediately lowered his head in shame, indicating that he shouldn't have said that.
