Extra: The Voyage of No Return (Part 2)

“Drip—drip—”

The indicator light above my head made a faint beep, and my eyes slowly opened. A long string of numbers appeared on the transparent glass cover, but my body was still a little stiff and sluggish.

[:281:15:31:06]

Has ten thousand years passed? It's unbelievable.

Before my brain could recover from the huge number, I finally felt a slight touch on my fingertips, and it was cold.

Xing fumbled with his fingers for the emergency button, finally touched the raised dot, and pressed it.

"Received emergency wake-up signal, started to wake up the hibernation cabin..." A mechanical voice sounded in the cabin.

The originally dark interior of the hibernation chamber began to light up one by one, and then the air in the chamber began to be exhausted, and then it was unlocked, and an even colder breath came from the outside.

"Well……"

Xing climbed out of the hibernation chamber with some difficulty. He felt that his body was like an iron frame that had been rusted for hundreds of years, out of control, stiff and uncomfortable.

After finally sitting on the hibernation capsule, he took a deep breath and started the heating system inside the spacecraft, which made him feel better.

Shaking his still somewhat dull brain, he looked at the screen indicating the time on the side, checked again, and confirmed that nearly ten thousand years had passed. Only then did he become somewhat sober.

"I actually managed to hold on for this long. The system developed by Lelila really came in handy." After resting, Xing slowly stood up and observed the situation around him.

This was a small compartment inside the spacecraft. The walls were lined with cylindrical storage boxes of varying sizes. Xing twisted the handle on it and opened the box that had been sealed for a long time. He took out one of the clothes and shook it slightly. He found that the special fabric that was originally tough and durable had now become loose and seemed to be about to fall apart at any time.

"Although there are disinfection measures and closed isolated storage, items will still age and get damaged." Looking at the clothes that had begun to disintegrate, Xing shook his head and had no choice but to start checking other systems and objects.

Many of them were damaged, but fortunately some of them were preserved. With the help of the molecular printer on the spacecraft, Xing input the data and asked it to remake the clothes, and then began to check the current location of the spacecraft.

"It's still 1,272 light-years away from the center of the Milky Way. It's very close, but this feeling is very strange..." After all, it will take hundreds of years, even if this spaceship is special and can travel at superluminal speed.

After finishing all this, Xing ordered the spacecraft system to start a self-check to see if there was anything that needed to be repaired or adjusted.

Then he walked to another closed hatch.

"The No. 1 hibernation capsule is sleeping. Do you want to wake it up?" A mechanical voice asked from the door.

"Wake up." Let's wake up Lelyla.

"Received, start executing..."

Then, Xing heard a faint sound coming from inside the cabin door, and then waited by the door for more than ten minutes before the familiar blonde lady walked out from behind the door.

"Long time no see." There was a golden orange color in Lelila's eyes, and countless symbols appeared and disappeared in them, flickering, and her voice was particularly empty, as if her inner personality had not yet fully awakened.

"Long time no see." Seeing her like this, Xing stopped disturbing her and took her to the hall inside the spaceship. He sat on the circular sofa next to the round table and waited for her to wake up completely.

Half an hour later, the gold in Lelila's eyes slowly faded away and turned back into its usual gentle orange-brown color, and her expression became more lively.

"It seems we have succeeded, and the spacecraft has now arrived near the center of the Milky Way." She looked at the star map and time displayed above her head.

"But time has passed. I wonder what the situation is like on Earth now." Xing clicked on the projection screen. After a while, the small autonomous unit in the spacecraft brought two cups of freshly prepared drinks.

In the dark environment, the two cups of dark blue liquid are particularly attractive. The liquid inside is shaking slightly, and small bubbles are constantly emerging from it.

"Drink something. I feel like my body is rusty." After saying that, Xing started to pour him some wine.

The special energy liquid replenished the lost physical strength, and the originally stiff and sluggish body gradually regained consciousness.

"Is this considered caring? It's really rare." Lelila picked up the cup in front of her and drank slowly until the liquid in the cup was completely finished.

Although her posture was elegant, it was undeniable that she was indeed thirsty.

After drinking and putting down the cup, Lelila closed her eyes for a while, and opened them again after a while. This time she also entered the working state. Screens of different sizes appeared in front of her. Countless data quickly flashed in her eyes, and then she issued a series of instructions to inspect and repair the spacecraft.

No matter how good the condition was before departure, after so many years of sailing, accidents and wear and tear are inevitable.

"The situation is not bad. We still have 42% of the reserve materials. The self-repair system we activated before departure played a big role, preventing the spacecraft from disintegrating mid-flight."

"42% is not bad? I feel like there's no need to think about going back." Xing shook his head and looked at the outside scene displayed on the screen beside him. It was extremely clear, just like the real scene, but also extremely empty and cold.

The starry sky is very dim, and only a few faint stars emitting heat can be seen in distant places, and the distance between them is probably hundreds of light years.

"Interstellar travel is so monotonous. I don't know how those people from the Deep Sea Union manage to survive. I feel like if you live on a spaceship like this for a long time, you'll definitely go crazy."

"There's no comparison." Lelila shook her head.

"The Deep Sea Alliance often travels through space as a family, with a rich social life. Their ships are nearly the size of cities, so boredom is a given. Speaking of which, I understand why the records left behind by the Transcendents describe them as skilled in various music and arts. After all, they have so much free time, so they need these things to pass the time."
