It was already July, and even on the high Holy Mountain of Karenriel, one could feel the scorching heat, with only the nights being slightly cooler.
After leaving the Judgment Department, Loran Hill returned towards Aquarius Palace.
Walking on the trails between the peaks, you can see the sparse scattered lights on the opposite or lower mountain walls, dotted in the dark night and between the peaks.
Although we could see some swaying figures walking around, their voices were difficult to reach us because they were too far away. Only the occasional crackling sound from the torches on the side of the road could be heard.
The ashes after burning had a faint smell of burnt ash. They drifted with the flames over the bottomless mountain stream and disappeared into the empty night.
Perhaps because he had resolved many of his previous doubts, Loran Hill felt a little more relaxed and his pace became faster.
She opened her arms, took a few quick steps on the path close to the mountain wall, and then jumped down.
The cool night air washed over her, causing her clothes to flutter and whirr. She flew through the air like a bird.
This place is still quite far from Aquarius Palace, and it would be too slow to walk back without the giant eagle.
Although being seen might cause some surprise, there was nothing that could be done about it. Loran Hill thought so and quickened his pace.
The cold mountain dew dampened her robes. About 20 minutes later, a slender and graceful figure slowly descended onto the Aquarius Palace, a secluded corner halfway up the mountain.
Loran Hill tidied up his messy hair and clothes a little, then walked towards where he lived.
At night, many buildings still had lights on, and a few nuns were walking in and out. Some were laughing and talking about the fun things that happened today, some were discussing which cosmetics and perfumes were better, and some were quietly complaining about not having enough vacation time.
A young nun unknowingly joined the team and followed the crowd towards a bright building where the Aquarius Palace dinner was served.
Inside the hall were bright copper candlesticks, and around rectangular tables sat nuns. Most of them wore similar clothing, primarily black, but there were also many differences, such as cuffs, collars, and badges on their chests.
The cuffs of trainee nuns are the same black as their clothes, while the cuffs of formal nuns have a circle of white on them to distinguish them.
Higher up, some nuns who oversee the palace have a circle of silver on their cuffs and collars, while higher-ranking nuns have golden leaf patterns.
The emblems also vary slightly. Some have gracefully curved small Aquarius shapes, representing healing and care. Others have straight, prismatic Aquarius shapes, representing those responsible for logistics, such as pharmaceutical production and procurement and allocation of supplies. Others have a small silver star in their Aquarius shapes, representing the nuns who fight for the Aquarius Palace. Most of them wield silver cross swords, displaying strong resolve. They also maintain order within the Aquarius Palace, preventing those with unruly behavior from bullying the nuns within.
"What does this kid want to eat?"
When Loran Hill walked to the window to choose the food, the kind aunt said this.
Are you talking about me? Luo Lanxier looked around briefly. It seemed that there was no one else. But he was not young either. He looked about 17 years old...
"How about we have this today? This is lotus root steamed cake. It's an Eastern recipe and tastes pretty good, but people don't eat much and don't order much."
She brought over a plate of white steamed cake, still steaming from it.
"Okay, thank you." Loran Hill stretched out his arms, and his white hands emerged from the wide cuffs.
"Hold it tight and don't spill it." The aunt put the plate in her hands and took a small wooden spoon and placed it next to the plate.
"Yeah." Loran Hill nodded, took the fragrant steamed cake, and walked to a corner of the hall.
Although it was meal time, the place was not crowded because the nuns took turns eating.
After Loran Hill sat down, he scooped out a small piece of steamed cake with a spoon and put it in his mouth. It was still slightly hot, soft and glutinous, with a faint sweetness.
She savored it slowly and looked at the situation in the hall.
Most of the nuns come here to eat in groups of three or four. They don’t talk about gods, practice, work or anything like that, but rather talk about small things in life, hobbies and the like.
During normal work, everyone behaves very formally to maintain the image of the church and Aquarius, but after a while, they can feel a bit oppressive. Meals become a rare opportunity for recreation and relaxation.
Many nuns are not very old. They are young adults who are full of curiosity about life and the world. Naturally, they have more things they want to confide and talk about.
Regarding the origins of church members, most of them are not from the Holy Land itself, but from branches all over the continent.
The Angel Church will establish schools in large cities to educate gifted children and help them become extraordinary people.
In return, these people will become staff members of the local church after graduation, and the outstanding ones will come to the sanctuary for further studies. After completing their studies, they will be transferred to branches in various places to take up their responsibilities.
Of course, the most gifted geniuses will be recommended by the church to go to Emenas, where they will receive a better education and then return to the Holy Land.
Ingrid came from such a background. She was adopted by the church when she was young, became an excellent knight, and then entered Emenas to study.
Most of the ordinary transcendents trained by the local church can only stay at Sequence 2-3, while the outstanding ones who can come to the Sanctuary for further training may advance to Sequence 4-5 after a few years. Finally, the most outstanding geniuses who return from Emenas can probably reach Sequence 6-7.
