That night, there were about twenty tents standing quietly in the open wilderness, with a bonfire lit in the middle and some people sitting around it having dinner.
The night breeze is very refreshing, and there is a faint scent of grass in the air.
This is the Oyster Plain in the East Territory. It gets its name because it looks like a huge but gently undulating hill, shaped like an oyster shell.
There are not many trees on the plains, mostly green pastures. Locals graze horses, cattle and sheep here. Scattered villages and towns are scattered throughout the plains, and the residents have lived here for generations, leading a simple life.
"In another day, we'll leave this plain and arrive at Whitemane, the great city in the east. According to the locals, it's a city built of white rock with three massive windmills. Residents of the surrounding villages and towns bring their harvested grain there to be ground."
Sitting by the campfire, the witch introduced Lily to the situation in the East, but most of it was what she learned from others.
"The guardians of the East are the Landsworthy family, also known as the Unicorn Dukes. They have elven blood and have intermarried with many of the great nobles in the East. Their power is stable and they are the most powerful force in the East."
"The only thing we're worried about now is the attitude of the Unicorn Duke. If he imposes a strict blockade, it's hard to imagine any noble in the East Territory daring to let us leave privately."
"So during this period, we should try not to reveal our identities." Although she said so, the witch was not very confident. These people came from the North, and their characteristics that were different from the locals were very obvious. Whether it was their voice, dress, clothing, etc., it was not easy to hide them.
This is no longer the northern territory they are familiar with, and many things have become unfamiliar to them.
"That's all I can pray for." Lily looked at the bonfire and nodded, then closed her eyes and muttered to herself.
Now, we are not far from arriving at Wanglong Port. I hope we can get through it safely.
the next day.
The team put away their iron-gray flags and bought some carriages and local specialties in the villages and towns along the way, preparing to transform into a merchant caravan in order to get through this journey smoothly.
But unfortunately, things don't always go as we wish.
Before entering Whitemane City, the patrol team stopped the convoy.
These mounted patrols wore light silver armor, their helmets hanging from the side of their saddles, clashing against the metal buckles and making a crisp metallic clang. Among them were about eight official cavalrymen, and the other twenty or so were attendants wearing leather armor.
"Stop and check, we are the patrol cavalry of Whitemane City." The leading captain raised the cross spear in his hand, and under the tip of the spear was a heraldic flag with a white horse on a black background.
Whitemane is the fief of Earl of Steedwind, whose family crest is a white horse on a black background. They are also relatives of the Landsworthy family and have been friends for generations.
The number of this patrol cavalry was less than one-fifth of Lily's group, but they were still fearless and seemed to have a slight contempt for these people from the North.
"Where are you from and what are you going to do?" Riding a horse, the captain slowly came to the front of the carriage and asked loudly.
"We are merchants from the North, and we came to the East to do some business." A leader dressed as a knight had to explain.
"Oh, business, what kind of business?" The captain seemed very disdainful. He lifted the cloth covering the back of the carriage with one hand and checked the things inside.
"I've seen a lot of northerners like you lately. They say they're here for business, but they're really here to plunder," he said confidently, expressing his opinion. Recently, public security has been poor, and many northerners have appeared in the territory, fleeing famine. Some of them have become bandits, posing a threat to surrounding towns.
"You!" Several upright Northern knights clenched their fists, wanting to teach this guy a lesson, but considering the purpose of this trip, they had to endure it.
After checking and finding that they were all ordinary groceries, the captain shook his head, then rode his horse in a circle around the team, as if estimating the number of people and strength.
"Come with us and stay in the city for a few days first." said the captain.
"No, we have urgent matters to attend to. We have to hurry."
"Oh, that's strange. You're heading east. Is there anything particularly urgent?"
"If they were transporting food to the northwest, I might have generously let them pass. After all, I know the situation there isn't good."
"But you're like this. You're supposed to be traveling merchants, and your paperwork is so shabby. And you have such powerful strength, but you're just trying to transport such ordinary groceries. It doesn't seem right at all."
As he spoke these words, the cavalrymen of this patrol team had already placed their hands on the hilts of their swords, ready to strike.
The scene suddenly fell into a stalemate and awkwardness. After a short while, the carriage door opened and a witch slowly stepped out. Only then did the cavalry captain look at her.
He looked at the approaching witch and slowly raised his hand, telling the people around him to relax for the time being and not to attack.
"Miss Witch, someone like you is not something an ordinary merchant team can have." He sighed in a low voice, and then watched how the witch would convince him.
"We really have no ill intentions, but we cannot fully explain the reasons to you. Perhaps you will understand why after a while, and then you will gain the friendship of the North." The witch came to the cavalry captain, bowed, and then spoke sincerely.
"Friendship of the North, such a promise is..." As he spoke, the cavalry captain's expression seemed to change.
He looked at the pedestrians, then at the witch, and remained silent for a long time before slowly making way.
