The teacher in the black dress didn't feel anything strange after hearing this. He walked casually to the fireplace, picked up the teapot, poured boiling hot black tea into his cup, then returned to his seat, blew on the teacup slightly, took a small sip, and then put the cup down.
"Now that you're such a big shot, you don't even reply to me." The teacher said again, but he didn't look really angry, it seemed like it was a joke between friends.
"No, it's just that this is a bit difficult to explain, Berg."
"Come on, Rayleigh. I'm almost done with my report here, and I don't have classes tomorrow anyway, so how about going for a drink tonight?"
The teacher holding the teacup blew on it, took another sip, and then spoke slowly.
"This child is different from others. For a noble lady from our country, I can patiently guide her and answer questions. But for this child, if I show kindness, she, who already has low self-esteem, might see it as pity or compassion, which would stimulate her self-esteem."
"That's true. With your status as an Imperial Viscount, it's easy for this girl from Black Rock to interpret you that way."
"Yes, I said it was a punishment, but it actually helped her to keep her temper and concentrate on finishing that thick textbook."
"Aren't you afraid of really frustrating her and making her give up on herself?" The man in the white shirt finished writing, pushed his glasses, then walked to the fireplace and poured himself a pot of hot tea.
"No, that look in her eyes is exactly the same as Celine's back then. She comes from the harsh mountains, and her willpower is not comparable to that of the pampered children from aristocratic families." Rayleigh said firmly.
"Besides, you are still there to save the situation. If that doesn't work, you will be asked to play the good guy. Aren't you such a hypocrite?" Reilly, who was wearing a black suit, continued.
"Hahaha, is this still you, Rayleigh? I really can't tell. You were a playboy back then, but how come you are so kind and dedicated now?" He walked over with a big laugh, leaned on the windowsill, looked at the old friend in front of him, and said with a smile.
"I'm still me. I still like pretty girls. Look at those stupid idiots. Do I care about them?"
"You're just talking now, but I know it." The teacher in the white shirt's voice gradually became steady.
"You've been single for so many years, but you still can't let go of Celine from back then. Otherwise, you wouldn't have given up being a viscount and come here to teach."
"Forget it, stop talking. Let's go to the west tonight and have some drinks. It's my treat."
"Okay, I can't miss out on a treat. I'm not as rich as you. Those guys in robes sell really expensive wine."
"Haha, didn't you look down on those classmates who joined the church back then? Now you regret it and envy them."
As the sky gradually darkened, the two middle-aged teachers closed the office door and walked down the mountain. Under the pale yellow street lights, several magic motorcycles were parked on the roadside, picking up students and teachers after school.
------------------
Tower Academy in the North, Eagle Beak Laboratory Building 407.
There was a bright moon floating in the sky, and the silvery moonlight shone on the granite exterior wall, making it seem a little cold. Most of the lights in the laboratory building were off, and only a few laboratories still had candles on.
Jack, wearing an ultramarine robe belonging to the magic sequence, stood beside the laboratory table, carefully assembling some metal components. In the process, he kept checking whether the inscriptions were connected, and occasionally used magic power to charge the experiments.
He was the only one in the quiet laboratory. The other students had already gone home. Fortunately, the school laboratories would not be closed all night. He just had to clean up the scene and lock the door before leaving.
As the last screw was tightened, a silver device about half a meter wide was completed. The main body was a horizontal cylinder with thin pipes and gear transmission mechanisms on the side. It looked like some kind of magic power reactor.
He mixed the ground and matched red and black powders, rolled it up with paper, tilted it slightly, and carefully poured it into one of the round holes, and then added blue lubricating liquid to the other side.
He then cleaned the table, first raising a pale blue barrier around the mechanism, and then carefully cranking the joystick. A spark flashed, followed by a roar and explosion. The entire mechanism trembled slightly, and then the sound of fan blades turning could be heard from within. Hearing this pleasant sound, Jack felt a surge of excitement in his heart.
Unfortunately, the good times didn't last long. Perhaps it was because the pressure was too strong, or perhaps it was a design flaw. A strong light flashed, and then a ball of fire exploded. Air waves, heat, and broken metal fragments exploded inside the barrier.
Fortunately, Jack reacted quickly and urgently reinforced the barrier to prevent the internal explosion from destroying other instruments in the laboratory.
After a while, as the flames gradually died down, he finally touched the barrier. Then the smell of burning and metal rushed into his nose, forcing him to step back and open the window for ventilation.
The previous test device has been turned into fragments, with nearly half of the main body broken and scattered, revealing the gears and transmission structure inside. The silver-white metal is covered with burnt black and broken edges.
Did it fail again? Although he was somewhat prepared, Jack felt a sense of emptiness inside. He dropped his hands in hesitation, watching the thing he had spent so many credits and savings on to create, only to be scrapped in an instant, was still a bit hard to accept.
He was a third-year student at High Tower Academy, having already been held back two years. If he couldn't advance this year, he'd probably have to leave Emenas by the end of the year. This was why he'd been working so hard since last year, but he wasn't particularly gifted, nor was he exceptionally intelligent. He didn't have any family background or connections, so he had only himself to rely on.
