Great Demon
Xu Yi had never seen Wu Zi in such a disheveled state. Recalling the scene where Wu Zi hadn't wanted her to enter the cave… he was unsure if he could defeat her, so he made up an excuse to prevent her from going in… She stroked Wu Zi's shoulder, burying her face in his back and sobbing, repeatedly calling out "Wu Zi… Wu Zi…" as if this could soothe his injuries… But Wu Zi only repeated, "Get out… get… out…"
The numerous wounds on Wu Zi's body and his desperate attempts to explain touched the softest spot in Xu Yi's heart, causing waves of pain. All of this pain coalesced into a boundless rage—rage against the demon...
Xu Yi looked up, sensing the yin and ghostly energy of the mountain, then letting it gather into her body. Her hair and nails grew wildly… The dense ghostly energy rapidly contracted and concentrated, lifting Xu Yi's body into the air, the eerie ghostly energy spreading… The entire cave grew even colder… She passed directly through Wu Zi's body and saw a wolf-like monster lying on the ground in the middle of the cave, gripping the hilt of a spirit sword and trying to pull it out of its chest with both feet… The spirit sword saw Xu Yi and urged, “Xu Yi, hurry… I can't hold on any longer…”
She glared fiercely at the demon on the open ground, ignoring Wu Zi's cries for help from behind, and flew over to claw directly at the demon's chest. Her long nails scraped sparks from the wolf demon's massive body, but caused no real damage... The wolf demon roared at her, forcing her back a few steps, and continued to stubbornly pull out the spirit sword... The spirit sword was slowly slipping from its body; all its strength was focused on resisting the wolf demon, and it could only shout to Xu Yi, "Xu Yi... Xu Yi... hurry..."
Xu Yi manipulated the ghostly energy surrounding her body, gradually covering her fingernails, and charged at the wolf demon again… continuing to claw at the wolf demon, but even with the ghostly energy covering it, she could only leave some faint bloodstains on the wolf demon's skin. She had only one thought in her mind: she had to kill the wolf demon. So she relentlessly clawed at the wolf demon, swinging her arms faster and faster, her attacks becoming increasingly dense… The faint bloodstains, due to the rapid accumulation, finally grew larger and larger, expanding into sizable wounds…
The wolf demon initially ignored Xu Yi, this little brat cultivator, but Xu Yi's persistence truly alarmed him... He thought it best to deal with this crazed woman first, so he disregarded the spirit sword in his chest and threw a punch at Xu Yi... Xu Yi had originally intended to rely on the abundant ghost energy around her to withstand the wolf demon's attack and let the ghost energy automatically heal her wounds, but unexpectedly, the wolf demon's punch directly dispersed a large chunk of condensed ghost energy, blasting Xu Yi far away...
Xu Yi's body flew backward at high speed... until it crashed heavily into the mountain wall and came to a stop... Xu Yi groaned and spat out a mouthful of blood...
Wu Zi's voice was very weak, and he was still urging Xu Yi to leave: "Xu Yi, leave, leave... leave..."
Xu Yi glanced at Wu Zi, who was covered in blood, and thought to himself that even if he died, he would never give up... So he ignored the pain in his body and the tearing sensation of the chaotic ghost energy pulling at him, and accelerated the absorption of ghost energy to replenish his body. Suddenly, someone grabbed his neck and lifted him up... The wolf demon's blood-red eyes looked coldly at Xu Yi, its tone extremely sarcastic: "You don't know your own strength..." Then the wolf demon's hand tightened little by little. Xu Yi, this ghost, didn't need to breathe anymore... but at this moment, he felt his throat tighten, and he slowly began to suffocate... as if he was about to die again in the next second...
She recalled her experiences in life, how she had been betrayed time and again, how she was forced to face death alone even though she knew it was a dead end... the bare grave and the epitaph after her death... and the mangy dog that had been killed... A deep sense of resentment welled up in her heart, and she asked herself: Why is the will of Heaven unclear? Why is God so unjust?
The immense resentment transformed into thick resentment and malevolence… The ghostly energy surrounding her body rapidly contracted, concentrating at her waist and abdomen, transforming into wisps of water vapor, which then condensed into a single drop of inky black water. She heard the angry roars of other living beings in the world… She seemed to see many people abandoned, fooled, and unjustly killed… The resentment and malevolence flew in little by little, merging with her own water droplet, slowly expanding into a pitch-black bead…
The jet-black bead began releasing ghostly energy, rapidly filling her body… She looked at the wolf demon and saw a blackish-green bead in its abdomen… she saw the wolf demon's vital point on its shoulder blade… She drew a dark black longsword from her waist and plunged it into the wolf demon's vital point… The wolf demon cried out in pain and tried to retreat, but Xu Yi's other hand had already transformed into a ghostly claw, piercing into the wolf demon's abdomen, slowly approaching the inner core… The wolf demon grabbed Xu Yi's hand, trying to stop her claws from advancing further… Unable to move one hand, Xu Yi used her other hand to begin rotating the longsword piercing the wolf demon's vital point, leaving the wolf demon overwhelmed… It roared in pain and attacked Xu Yi with a frenzied barrage of punches…
But those attacks were neutralized by the barrier of ghostly energy and resentment that formed in front of Xu Yi… Xu Yi discovered that although the wolf demon was terrified of having its inner core taken, the wound on its vital point caused it even more pain. So, Xu Yi temporarily abandoned the inner core, gripped the black longsword with both hands, and plunged the sword deeper, then slowly rotated it… She saw blood gushing from the wolf demon's wound, but felt it was far too little compared to the blood Wu Zi had shed, so she continued to thrust the longsword down a few inches until it pierced through the wolf demon's shoulder blade…
The wolf demon cried out in pain, trying to pull Xu Yi's longsword out, but failed several times. It then bit down on Xu Yi's shoulder… Xu Yi felt the ghostly energy spreading rapidly across her shoulder, the pain causing her hand to tremble involuntarily… But at that moment, Xu Yi's stubborn streak kicked in; she only wanted the wolf demon to suffer to atone for the injuries Wu Zi had sustained, how could she let go… So she screamed and desperately tried to control her hand, stabbing deeper and deeper, then rotating the longsword in circles to widen the wound on her vital point…
The wolf demon, realizing that absorbing Xu Yi's ghostly energy wouldn't make her let go, released Xu Yi's shoulder, wanting only to escape the longsword's attack. She gripped the sword, enduring excruciating pain, and inching backward, trying to pull it out… But Xu Yi wouldn't let her succeed. So, for every step the wolf demon took back, she took a step forward, until finally, Xu Yi's forward speed exceeded the wolf demon's backward speed… But the wolf demon's back was an empty cave, offering no leverage, and she couldn't stop its retreat… Xu Yi knew this couldn't last, but having no other choice, she could only grip the longsword tightly and keep moving forward without stopping…
Wu Zi had been watching Xu Yi closely. Seeing the stalemate, he smeared his sword with blood and slashed it towards the wolf demon's leg... The wolf demon's attention was entirely focused on the sword and Xu Yi, so it didn't notice the sword at its feet. Its leg was slashed, and it instinctively tried to lift its foot, but the momentum caused it to fall backward to the ground... A perfect opportunity! Xu Yi quickly stepped forward and pinned the wolf demon to the ground, then used all his strength to press down on the sword... until the tip of the sword pierced the ground. Xu Yi then channeled all his ghostly energy to gather power and pressed down again, finally pinning the wolf demon to the ground...
Xu Yi didn't know how long she could keep this up, so she kept gripping the longsword and constantly channeling her ghostly energy to press it down. The prolonged output of ghostly energy accelerated its depletion... The dark bead in her waist and abdomen slowly faded. Xu Yi was extremely nervous, afraid that the wolf demon would break free and also afraid that her ghostly energy would dissipate completely... She was so anxious that sweat poured down her forehead, and her palms slowly became wet and slippery... Just when she didn't know what else to do, she heard Wu Zi call her: "Xu Yi, move aside."
She looked at Wu Zi and saw that he was holding a dark purple talisman. She knew that it was the most powerful lightning-summoning talisman, so she quickly released her longsword and retreated...
Just as he stepped back, he heard lightning descend from the sky, striking the wolf demon directly. The wolf demon howled in pain, but its body was pinned down, unable to break free. It could only desperately try to draw its sword, hoping to break free and save its own life... But no matter how it attacked, the sword remained unmoved... It could only watch in despair as the lightning struck, splitting its own body apart...
He roared, glaring at Xu Yi and Wu Zi with the most vicious look, but the power of the heavenly lightning continued to coursing through his body, tearing his meridians apart inch by inch...
After the three bolts of heavenly lightning passed, the wolf demon had been shattered... Only a blackish-green inner core and the fallen little spirit sword remained on the open ground.
Xu Yi finally breathed a sigh of relief. As the ghostly energy within her dissipated, she collapsed to the ground, too exhausted to move. She could only look at Wu Zi and ask, "Wu Zi, how... how are you?"
Wu Zi gave a sad smile, coughed, and took a breath before saying, "I'm alright... I'm not dead..."
The jet-black longsword in the cave gradually transformed back into its original form as a small wooden sword, floating back to Xu Yi's waist. Xu Yi silently thanked the small wooden sword in his heart: Thank you, Brother Yu Tong.
Xu Yi looked at the spirit sword in the cave and called out, "Little spirit sword, how are you?"
The spirit sword on the ground did not react. Xu Yi assumed that the spirit sword was exhausted like itself, so he raised his voice and called out again, "Little spirit sword, answer me!"
But after a long time, the spirit sword on the ground still didn't react. Xu Yi's heart skipped a beat, and he quickly stood up, supporting himself against the mountain wall, and slowly walked towards the spirit sword... When he finally reached the center of the cave, he saw that the spirit sword was nowhere to be seen. The once bright and shiny spirit sword on the ground was now dull and lifeless, its blade broken and covered with rust... Anyone who saw it would have concluded that the sword was ruined...
Xu Yi picked up the spirit sword from the ground and, unwilling to give up, called out to it twice more: "Little spirit sword? Little spirit sword?"
No matter how much Xu Yi called out or shook the sword, it didn't react at all... Xu Yi quickly hugged the spirit sword and walked to Wu Zi's side, raising her wet eyes and asking Wu Zi again, "Wu Zi... spirit sword... has the spirit sword exhausted its spiritual power, so... so it has fallen into a deep sleep?" She hoped that Wu Zi could tell her that the spirit sword was just asleep and would definitely wake up in the future... hadn't she heard the spirit sword calling her just a second ago?
But Wu Zi suppressed the tears that were about to spill from his eyes and choked out as he comforted Xu Yi, "Xu Yi... its mission... is complete..."
The mission... is complete?
