Look at the cause

Look at the cause

It turns out that this man, dressed in rags and tattered clothes, was the real Confucian scholar.

With the resistance weakening, I mustered the last of my strength to pull out the prince's murderous aura, and then threw the purse I was carrying over.

The shadow swiftly seized the malevolent aura, ignoring its startled cry, and swallowed it whole with a snap.

I was covered in sweat and collapsed to the ground, completely exhausted, unable to move at all.

At this moment, the three people opposite me slowly and shakily stood up. The way they looked at me was anything but kind.

I sneered: "What? You just saved your lord, and you're already planning to kick me to the curb?"

At this moment, Old Xu, who was holding a pen, stepped forward and forced all three of them to retreat with a single word, "retreat," which emitted a golden light.

I stared at him in shock, completely unprepared for his incredible skill...

After forcing the three people back, the old man helped me up and said, "Let's go, young lady, I'll see you out of the mansion."

With Old Xu's help, I slowly walked out of the courtyard. I hadn't gone halfway when I heard the sound of armor rubbing against each other and running. Then a squad of imperial guards ran over and surrounded the main courtyard...

"Oh no," I thought to myself. "It seems this guy is really going to die. This courtyard is probably not going to be safe from now on..."

I quickly said to the old man next to me, "Find a chance to go out first. I'm made of bones and I'm tough." Afraid that he wouldn't want to run away on his own, I added, "I'll trouble you to find someone from the Imperial Observatory to rescue me after you get out."

The old man laughed twice: "Hahaha, I never thought that a skeleton without flesh and blood would be more human than all the flesh and blood people in this courtyard..." He tightened his grip on my hand and said, "Don't worry, young lady, even if I die, I will take you out of the manor."

"No, no, no!" I quickly stopped her. "Please don't. This is my own doing. If something happens to you while you're saving me... the life of a great scholar is not something I can bear..."

He looked at me, a hint of inquiry in his eyes: "Young lady, you are both sincere and hypocritical; you truly have a bright future!"

"Wisdom, that's not something I can define..." I gave him a bitter smile: "So please, old man, when the time comes, you must leave first, you must protect yourself first."

Just then, the general at the end of the line appeared, his golden boots slowly approaching. I looked up with difficulty and realized that it was Mu Li. I exclaimed in surprise, "Mu Li?"

Mu Li smiled at me, then took a few steps over and picked me up. I quickly gestured to the old man next to me and said to Mu Li, "Take this great scholar with you."

Old Xu glanced at the pen in his hand, probably intending to throw it away, but the pen flew back into his hand just two inches from his fingers...

Uh... this is awkward. The magical artifact chose Elder Xu, abandoning its original master...

This pen must have been crafted with great care...

Taking the pen from its original owner... this undoubtedly adds considerable difficulty to our retreat...

Just as I was struggling with this decision, I saw the owner of the pen across from me come out and give Mr. Xu a proper bow, saying earnestly, "Please, take this pen with you."

What? He's willing to give away such a fine magical artifact to someone else? I looked at the person opposite me in disbelief. The person bowed even lower, and said with great emotion, "This trip down the mountain has truly broadened my horizons. First, even a skeleton like you could use my pen, and then the magical artifact automatically chose its master. It has truly impressed me. Once the Crown Prince wakes up, I will take my leave immediately and go back to recuperate. I also thank you both for your guidance."

Wow, so I actually did a good deed and taught this 'great Confucian scholar'?

The old man chuckled twice more, put away his pen, and walked out. Mu Li carried me and followed behind. We easily left the main courtyard. When we arrived outside the Crown Prince's residence, I saw the Supervisor and the Protector standing at the gate, along with Wu Qing, and the Crown Prince's residence surrounded by cultivators every two steps...

This means... they've mobilized all the people from the Imperial Observatory, haven't they?

Before I could even sigh, the supervisor, Bao He, and Wu Qing came over and asked me in unison, "Are you alright?"

"It's nothing," I shook my head, "I'm just a little tired from using too much strength."

"Yes," the supervisor nodded, "Let's go back to the palace first and rest well."

"Mmm." I nodded, then snuggled against Muli's chest, which was covered by armor, and drifted off to sleep.

The next day, I opened my eyes in the room where I usually rested and saw Xu Baohe sitting on the floor by the bed, and then Mu Li and A Shi sitting at the table a little further away. Mu Li was the first to notice that I was awake, and came over to help me up, asking me with concern, "How are you? Is anything bothering you?"

I shook my head: "I'm fine."

Baohe jumped onto the bed in a few steps and complained, "Xu Yi, you have no idea how soundly you slept yesterday. I was afraid you wouldn't wake up!"

I looked at the concerned eyes staring at me and smiled, "Hehe, it feels so good to be cared about!"

Ah Shi rolled his eyes at me first: "Auntie, you have no idea how worried the people in this courtyard are about you, how could you say something like that!"

"What's wrong? Did I say something wrong? It feels good to be cared for."

"Okay, okay," Ah Shi compromised, "If Auntie says it's good, then it's good."

I smiled and raised an eyebrow, looking smug, then turned to Mu Li and asked, "How did you mobilize the Imperial Guards yesterday?"

“I returned to the Mu residence, met with my grandfather, and begged him to pass on the transfer order to me.”

"He agreed?"

“Yes,” Muli nodded, “Grandfather just sighed and then gave me the transfer order.”

"Oh!" It seems Mu Qi has had a change of heart! I remembered Old Xu from last night and asked Mu Li, "What about the old man who came out with us?"

“He’s outside!” Ah Shi replied, “He’s having tea with the Supervisor.”

I went out and bowed to the old man next to the supervisor, saying, "Thank you for your willingness to go to such lengths to bring me out."

“No need, no need,” the old man stood up and waved his hand. “I couldn’t help you, young lady. It’s all thanks to your good fortune that you were able to return safely.”

At this point, he turned and bowed to the supervisor, saying, "Now that the young lady has awakened, this old man will not presume to stay any longer. Farewell." After saying this, he turned back and cupped his hands to me, saying, "Farewell, young lady."

"Take care." I returned the greeting, and then watched the old man leave with the supervisor and the others.

As I lay back down in the rocking chair, Muli came over and kissed my cheek, saying gently, "I have to go back to the Imperial Guard first."

“Okay,” I nodded.

Ah Shi also said, "I also need to leave the palace to tell the Prime Minister that you have woken up."

"Okay," I waved my hand.

The weather was perfect, the sun was shining brightly, and I raised my glass, stood up, and clinked it with the supervisor with a grin, saying to him, "Cheers, Supervisor." It was as if I were drinking wine.

The supervisor laughed heartily: "Haha, drinking wine and appreciating tea are truly elegant pursuits!"

I shook my finger: "No, no, no, it's drinking tea and appreciating tea with friends and family that's the real elegance."

"Hmm," the supervisor chuckled twice more, "Haha, well said!"

Baohe was also infected by my and Jianzheng's smiles, and jumped onto my stomach a few times, saying happily, "That's right, that's right, being with you guys is so much fun."

Just as everyone was celebrating, a messenger from the Imperial Observatory came to report: "Director Xu, the Crown Prince is outside requesting an audience."

The Crown Prince? I rolled my eyes at the sky. Coming to spoil our fun at a time like this? What bad luck!

"What bad luck!" I complained. "Please come in."

The supervisor just smiled and shook his head: "Little Xu Yi, you still haven't changed your temper."

"But I have changed my approach to things."

“Hmm,” the supervisor nodded, “Yes, that’s right.”

I chuckled and said, "Thank you for the compliment."

At this moment, the Crown Prince also entered. He walked extremely slowly, as if he were traversing a predetermined path in his own heart...

The supervisor and I simply sat there, sipping tea and admiring his gait.

He walked over, flashed a standard smile, and bowed to us: "Greetings, Supervisor and Aunt."

I grunted through my nose and asked him, "What's up?"

He bowed to us again, his posture perfectly upright and very low: "Thank you, Aunt, for saving me last night."

“No need,” I shook my head. “It was my doing, and even though it wasn’t my intention, it’s my responsibility to resolve it.”

"I still want to thank my aunt for not holding a grudge."

"Hmph..." I snorted coldly: "No need. The supervisor and I have already received your thanks. Take care and don't see us off."

He lowered his head to show that he had heard, then slowly started walking out again.

"Sigh..." I couldn't help but sigh, "If he hadn't been trapped by power, he would probably have had a good ending."

"Hey, little Xu Yi, not bad! You've seen his strengths and understood the reasons behind his path. You're almost there..."

"What will you cultivate?"

"Hehe, you'll know once you've mastered it."

"Well... I'll take your kind words."

The supervisor stood up, waved his sleeve, and beckoned to me: "I'm in a good mood today, come with me for a walk!"

"Great, it's been a long time since I've wandered around aimlessly."

I accompanied the Imperial Censor out of the palace, chatting and laughing all the way. Before we knew it, we had arrived at the city gate. One second I was talking about how I had devised a plan to get the Crown Princess to give the Crown Prince the medicine, and the next second the Imperial Censor stopped, cupped his hands, and stood opposite me in front of the still-open city gate.

The supervisor looked at me with a smile and said, "Go back now, little Xu Yi."

"Hmm? You've gone back? Good, let's go back together then."

But Jianzheng simply shook his head: "No, I won't go back."

"Not going back? Are you going somewhere else? Are you returning to the Imperial Observatory tonight?"

"No, Xu Yi," the Director shook his head again, "I will not return to the Imperial Observatory, nor to the capital, nor to this mortal world."

"What?" I exclaimed in surprise. "Why? Why are you suddenly saying you're leaving?"

“It’s not sudden, little Xu Yi. I’ve wasted a full fifty years of my life in this mortal world because of the title of ‘Supervisor’.”

"But why, why now? You didn't tell anyone..." My nose stung, and I burst into tears: "Why so suddenly?"
