Retention

Retention

I was a little confused. I walked over and entered the formation, then took out the little finger bone and pierced the ghost's brow. The little finger bone drew out the malevolent energy in his body. I quickly used the sachet to press against the ghost's forehead, and all the dark gray malevolent energy was absorbed by the sachet.

I clapped my hands and walked back to the supervisor: "So that's how you collected it!"

The supervisor looked at the finger bone in my hand: "How did you get that bone?"

"Hey, it's all because of the malevolent energy of Chuanguangtang that this little finger bone was discovered, and that's how all that malevolent energy came out. In a way, it's the culprit." I handed the bone to the supervisor, who waved his hand and didn't take it. He just said, "Keep it safe. In a couple of days, when those bones are refined, you'll have another weapon."

"It'll be ready in a couple of days? That fast?"

"I've put a lot of good stuff in there!" The supervisor touched his chest, feeling quite distressed. "You'd better cherish it!"

"Okay, okay," I said, seeing the pained look on the supervisor's face. "I will take good care of it, don't worry."

That night we did encounter several ghosts corrupted by malevolent energy. With the prison guards present, dealing with them was a piece of cake...

As dawn approached, the three of us randomly found a breakfast shop and ate some steamed buns. After we finished the buns, the supervisor took Ah Shi back to the Imperial Observatory to rest.

I yawned and decided to wander around a bit more to see if there was anything unusual that needed to be addressed.

I don't know how, but after a few turns, I ended up in the working-class district. The houses in the working-class district were all of average height, and the walls were all a uniform mud-colored. So, the house in the middle, shrouded in a pastel-colored ghostly aura, stood out conspicuously. Pastel-colored? Ghostly aura? This… could it be Ah Xi?

I knocked on the door, and a little girl opened it; it wasn't the woman Ah Xi was with.

Had I guessed wrong? I smiled at the little girl and said, "I'm lost here. Could you give me a bowl of water?"

"Sure!" The little girl ran back, and a moment later returned with a chipped earthenware bowl containing a bowl of water, which she handed to me with both hands. Oh no, I forgot I couldn't drink water myself. I patted her head and lied, "I'm sorry, I'm not thirsty anymore, thank you for your help." Remembering I had some osmanthus candy in my bag, I quickly took one out and gave it to her, saying, "I'm so sorry, here's some candy for you."

The little girl immediately refused: "No, sister, my sister won't let me eat other people's food."

"Your older sister?" Just as she was about to ask where her older sister was, another woman came out. She was wearing coarse linen clothes, but they were very clean. She was the same woman that Axi had been with that day.

I raised an eyebrow. Sure enough, it was Ah Xi?

The woman came over, smiled at me, patted the little girl's head, and asked, "What's wrong, Tuantuan?"

“This,” Tuantuan pointed at me, “she first said she wanted to drink water, but when I brought it to her, she said she wasn’t thirsty anymore, and even offered to give me candy…”

Sigh... According to Tuantuan's logic, I seem more like a fraudulent human trafficker!

I remained silent for a moment, then directly called out to the person in question: "A-Xi".

There was a brief silence, followed by a rush of voices: "Hey, hey, I'm here, Grandma!"

Before Axi even appeared, the woman in front of me bowed and said, "Greetings, young lady. Do you know Axi?"

"Do you...do you know what Axi is?"

Before the young woman could answer, Ah Xi had already run to the door. I saw that his body was beginning to take shape, and I nodded approvingly: "Not bad, Ah Xi, you've done quite a few good deeds, haven't you?"

"Uh..." A-Xi scratched his head: "I just casually helped people communicate, but it didn't really help much. Unlike you, who's always on the street calming the tension. This person has practically made you a legend..."

"There are people spreading this?"

“You may not have noticed it yourself, but everyone around you saw it. They said a woman was riding a horse and galloping through the streets, and the rioters all wilted when they saw her… I knew it was you as soon as I heard that.”

I saw that A-Xi looked clear-headed and was in a good state of mind, so there was nothing wrong with him.

He nodded and said casually, "Okay, as long as you weren't affected, remember to come to the Imperial Observatory to find me if anything happens."

Axi's eyes lit up: "So, Grandma, you came here specifically to see if I've been affected?"

I gave the woman beside me a meaningful look: "You've finally found something you want to do, and I don't want you to let this interfere with your important work."

“Yes,” A-Xi bowed to me formally, “Thank you, I will be careful.”

The woman bowed to me along with Ah Xi, saying, "Thank you for your concern, young lady."

Wow, these two seem to be in sync like a married couple?

Unfortunately, I no longer have the divine eye or heavenly eye, so I can no longer see the entanglement between them. Therefore, I didn't say anything more, nodded, and left.

I hadn't been back on the main street for long when I saw Muli. Muli was riding a horse and patrolling the street. When she saw me, she dismounted and greeted me, "Miss, so early?"

Good morning? It is quite early; I haven't slept all day. I nodded: "Yeah, you're early too."

“I was really worried when I got back last night, and I was also worried that going out on the street might disturb you, so I slept very lightly and woke up early.”

"Hmm," I nodded appreciatively, "With your hard work, you're bound to get promoted sooner or later! Keep it up!"

Muli looked up at me, and after a moment nodded: "Yes, I appreciate your kind words, Miss."

This Muli calls me "senior" one minute, "noble person" the next, and has even called me "Princess Changling" before, and now she's calling me "girl" again.

I frowned: "Could you call me by a normal name?"

"Huh? This..." He glanced at me, "Isn't it inappropriate to call you 'girl'?"

"This is inappropriate! It's very inappropriate. It makes it seem like we're meeting for the first time. You might as well just call me Little White Bone, or Xu Yi."

“Let me grant your request,” he answered smoothly, “is that alright?”

"Sure..." Although I'm two or three generations removed from him, it doesn't matter.

After yesterday's chaotic suppression, there were significantly fewer rioters today. Muli and I only encountered a few before the riots subsided.

I breathed a sigh of relief: "Phew, things have calmed down a bit now." I nodded to Muli: "I'm going back to rest too. If you find anything unusual during your patrol, you can call the Imperial Observatory patrolmen or have someone come find me."

"Okay," Muli nodded, "Then I'll take you there?"

“No need,” I waved my hand. “What’s the point of sending me, a skeleton? I can go back by myself.”

Muli nodded: "Alright, business comes first."

I went back to the Imperial Observatory on my own, and while I was there, I went to the workshop to take a look. I was quite pleased to see that the magic weapon being refined was in its final stages, and I kept asking the cultivator next to me, "Is it almost finished?"

“Yes,” the monk nodded, “it should be ready by tomorrow.”

"Okay, okay," I nodded repeatedly, feeling inexplicably happy at the thought of using this whip to whip people and ghosts in the future...

Just then, the supervisor arrived. Seeing my happiness, he chuckled twice and said, "Yes, yes, it'll be ready soon, Xu Yi. You'll be able to use it tomorrow."

The cultivator bowed to the supervisor, then looked at the two of us and said, "Since you are both here, I'd like to ask: there are too many bones left over after refining the whip. I wonder what you two plan to do with them?"

"Anything left?" There are way too many bones! "How much is left?"

The cultivator cupped his hands in greeting: "I suppose it can be refined into a dagger. However, I've heard that this thing cannot be stained with blood, neither human nor ghost blood, so... I haven't made a decision yet."

The supervisor raised his thick, old eyes and looked at me: "Little Xu Yi, what do you think?"

"We've just got enough for one dagger, so let's make one! What's the big deal?" I gestured with my chin, "At worst, we'll just use it less often."

The supervisor was silent for a moment, then stroked his beard: "Very well, keeping it on a high shelf will at least have some deterrent effect on the living beings in the Imperial Observatory."

"It can also refine one's character!" My eyes lit up. "When new people arrive at the Imperial Observatory, they can go to the high pavilion to be tempered by this bone knife. Maybe it can even help select a good successor for the Imperial Observatory in the future!"

When the supervisor heard me speak, his eyes lit up: "Great idea, Xu Yi, let's do it that way."

“Alright,” the monk nodded when he saw that we both agreed, “then I will forge this bone knife as soon as possible.”

"Eh..." The supervisor stroked his beard, his eyes gleaming: "Then we'll have to build another building, won't we?"

I immediately understood what the supervisor was up to, and said disdainfully, "You go and collect your money yourself, but don't drag my reputation into this."

"Sigh..." the supervisor drawled, "How is this none of your business? Didn't you, the eldest princess, find these bones?"

"What?" I tilted my head and glanced at the supervisor. "Is it not possible to ask for funding if I don't mention it?"

"Which of the other people's names is as resounding as the eldest princess's?"

“Alright, alright,” I agreed. “Then we’ll build a library and put all the techniques, hand seals, and production processes of various sects in there. We’ll also put Old Man Deng’s special skills in there, so that books that need to be passed down in this world can be preserved. I’ll ask the emperor for an imperial edict to make it clear that no one is allowed to touch the library.”

“Alright,” the supervisor nodded, and actually bowed to me. I quickly stepped aside, saying, “Please don’t kowtow to me, sir.”

“You deserve it, little Xu Yi. I thank you on behalf of the techniques that have allowed the library to be preserved in this world.”

"Never mind, never mind," I waved my hand. "I mainly wanted to squeeze another penny out of the emperor. Just thinking about his pained expression makes me happy." I chuckled twice.

The supervisor and the monks chuckled along with me.

I was discussing with the supervisor and the monks which plan to use the money best, and we got into a real mess, basically aiming for as much money as possible.

The entire production area was filled with the laughter of the three of us, scheming and plotting... Meanwhile, Muli sent someone to tell us that everything was fine on the street, and I felt relieved, so I decided to go back and rest.
