The vengeful ghost's wish
“Shut up,” Wu Zi roared. “Your voice will only point the way for those fox demons in the fog.”
Xu Yi quickly covered her mouth, but it was too late. A glint of light flashed through the mist, followed by the fox demon's even happier laughter: "My sister is truly my benefactor..." With that, she burst forth from the mist, heading straight for Chenchen... Wang Zhi quickly drew his bow, firing two arrows, both of which the fox demon dodged... Just as Wang Zhi was about to nock another arrow, the fox demon appeared before him. The fox demon's slender fingers twirled in front of Wang Zhi's eyes, and Wang Zhi's gaze glazed over... blankly, no longer reacting...
Wu Zi thought to himself, "This is bad." He quickly turned around and swung his sword at the fox demon. The fox demon turned its head and dodged, its face instantly transforming back into its original fox form. It hissed at Wu Zi, spitting out saliva. Wu Zi swung his sword again, but the fox demon jumped over and grabbed him by the heavy collar, dragging him into the thick fog. Wu Zi quickly called out to Xu Yi, "Xu Yi, chase after them."
“Okay,” Xu Yi’s hands and feet were trembling, but she still followed the fox demon into the fog. The fox demon was extremely fast, weaving through the thick fog, sometimes appearing and sometimes disappearing. Xu Yi could only chase after it, calling out to Chen Chen, “Chen Chen… Chen Chen…”
Chenchen was being dragged along by the fox demon, her back burning with pain, but thankfully she was still conscious and would occasionally respond.
Xu Yi nervously swallowed, fearing both the fox demon that might suddenly leap out of the fog and the real danger of Chen Chen accidentally tripping over her... After finally chasing the fox demon to a dilapidated temple, she used the method Wu Zi had taught her to make a mark on the ground... Then, swallowing hard, she entered the temple...
The dilapidated temple was eerily quiet. Xu Yi didn't see a single fox demon. Her steps were unsteady, and it took her a long time to finally reach the main hall of the temple... Standing at the entrance, she witnessed the most terrifying scene of her life: In the very center of the temple lay the unconscious Chenchen, surrounded by four or five fox demons. Some had human faces and human bodies, some had demon faces and human bodies, and some even had human faces and demon bodies... But they were all close to Chenchen's head, constantly drawing the pure, shimmering energy from Chenchen's seven orifices... and then revealing expressions of ecstasy and fascination...
Although it was the first time Xu Yi had seen it, she immediately realized that the shimmering energy was deep essence... Xu Yi unconsciously burst into tears and asked loudly, "What are you doing?"
Several fox demons glanced at her, then stopped in unison and hissed at her, "Get lost..." Their voices were sharp and piercing...
Ignoring the blood flowing from her ears, Xu Yi kept repeating, "What are you doing? What are you doing..." Xu Yi cried uncontrollably, walking over to try and push the fox demons clinging to Shen Chen off... but her hand went straight through the fox demons, through Shen Chen, to no avail...
Xu Yi was heartbroken and devastated. An unnamed anger pierced her heart. She stood up, hastily wiping away the tears that blurred her vision, and shouted, "He's innocent! He's innocent... Let him go! Let him go..."
Her pleas were a joke to the fox demons clinging to Shen Chen… None of them paid her any attention; they all rushed to absorb his life essence. Xu Yi watched helplessly as Shen Chen's face gradually withered and shriveled. This scene triggered her emotional breakdown, and she screamed, “Ah…”
With her scream, she felt streams of ghostly energy of the same origin rapidly filling her body... more and more... faster and faster... She felt her entire body brimming with power... Her eyes red, she walked over and grabbed a fox demon's leg, pulling it away from the heavy mass. The fox demon tried to struggle, but Xu Yi didn't give it a chance. She grabbed one leg with each hand and ripped... the fox demon in front of her was torn in two... The fox demon's foul-smelling blood and internal organs spilled out, passing through Xu Yi's body and falling to the ground, leaving a bloody stain...
This terrifying scene successfully frightened the fox demons who were still ingesting the poison. They all turned to flee, but how could Xu Yi let them escape? With a wave of his hand, he sealed off the entire room... The fox demons kept crashing against the black barrier... but they couldn't break through even a crack...
Xu Yi approached the fox demons scurrying about one by one... tearing them in half one by one...
Seeing their companions die one by one, the fox demons completely panicked. Besides frantically ramming the barrier, some even conjured pitiful figures, crying and begging Xu Yi to spare them… Xu Yi couldn't hear a word they were saying… In her eyes, there was only the silent scene of the kneeling woman crying and screaming… She slowly walked over, grabbed a fox demon by the neck, and roared, “Spit it out… spit it out…” Her voice was so loud that the fox demon before her coughed up blood, and the fox demon on the ground quickly expelled its heavy essence…
All the fox demons heard Xu Yi's voice, and each of them trembled as they exhaled their heavy essence. Seeing that there was no longer any shimmering energy in the fox demon's body, Xu Yi grabbed the fox demon's hair and yanked it hard, separating its head from its body... The fox demon's face was still frozen in fear when its body collapsed to the ground, bleeding profusely...
The fox demons had initially thought that exhaling their heavy essence would appease the terrifying ghost cultivator before them, but they hadn't expected to face certain death... Their terror intensified, and they rammed the barrier with increasing force... Even as their heads bled, they didn't stop... Xu Yi, watching the fox demons' terrified expressions and actions, felt it was only to be expected... She ignored the fox demons bleeding from their ramming heads, focusing instead on capturing and tearing apart the fox demons running rampant in the dilapidated temple, one after another...
She had only one thought in her mind: these fox demons must all die, they all must die...
Only after Xu Yi had wiped out all the fox demons in the dilapidated temple did she hear a deep, weak voice calling out, "Miss Xu...?"
Xu Yi turned around and saw Chen Chen lying on the ground with bloodshot eyes and a thick black mist around him... Although there was no blood on his body, the blood and internal organs all over the temple made him realize something. The Xu Yi in front of him was unfamiliar and frightening, so he unconsciously shrank back a few steps...
Xu Yi looked at the figure on the ground, tilting her head as if to confirm whether it was a fox demon. After a long while, she confirmed that it wasn't a fox demon, and then silently stood still... She was somewhat confused, unsure of what to do next...
The black barrier in the temple dissipated because of Xu Yi's pause, and slowly shrank back into Xu Yi's body...
Wu Zi had heard Xu Yi's scream as soon as he arrived. Suppressing the pain in his heart, he quickly followed Xu Yi's mark to the dilapidated temple. However, the temple was sealed by a black ghostly aura, and he couldn't break through at all. He could only anxiously wait outside... He called out to the barrier, "Xu Yi... Xu Yi..." but there was no response...
After a long while, the barrier dissipated, and the scene before them was revealed...
Shen Chen, his face pale, huddled against the stone table behind him, watching Xu Yi warily... Xu Yi was no longer the obedient daughter; her entire body was shrouded in black ghostly energy, her hair disheveled and hanging down to her feet... Her fingers had long, bright red fingernails... Just standing there motionless, she was already a standard image of a vengeful ghost...
Looking at the fox demon corpses scattered all over the dilapidated temple, Wu Zi could easily tell that they had all been torn apart by humans...
He never imagined that Xu Yi, who was usually so timid, would become so cruel. He carefully walked over and patted Shen Chen's shoulder. Just as Shen Chen was about to speak, he quickly covered Shen Chen's mouth and made a shushing gesture. Then he signaled Shen Chen to quietly leave the dilapidated temple with him first.
He nodded hurriedly, understood, and carefully stood up. Following Wu Zi's footsteps, he stepped over the mangled corpses on the ground and silently walked out of the dilapidated temple...
After they had walked some distance from the dilapidated temple, Chenchen began to recount the horrific scene he had witnessed incoherently. Wu Zi's brows furrowed more and more as he listened… He suppressed his shock and patted Chenchen's shoulder as if nothing was amiss: “Alright, I understand. I'll handle the rest… Wang Zhi is over there. I've set up a protective array. Go find Wang Zhi now and go down the mountain with him. We don't need you here anymore. Go back and settle the villagers. Tell them not to come up the mountain, no matter what they hear or see.”
"Alright," he nodded heavily and went to find the king...
When Wu Zi returned to the dilapidated temple, he found that Xu Yi was nowhere to be found. He quickly called out, "Xu Yi, Xu Yi, can you hear me?"
There was no response... He frowned and continued up the mountain. Every ten or a hundred steps, he would find the body of a fox demon torn in two by the roadside... He followed the path all the way to the top of the mountain and found Xu Yi standing in the middle of a group of fox demons, tearing at any fox demon she grabbed like a puppet... completely disregarding the magic and bite marks inflicted on her by the other fox demons... The wounds inflicted by the fox demons were instantly replenished by the ghostly energy of the mountain and restored to their original state...
Wu Zi quickly helped, breaking through from the outside little by little... After killing for half the night, the two finally wiped out all the fox demons on the mountain... Wu Zi looked at the piles of mangled corpses around him, marveling at the sheer number of fox demons... and at Xu Yi's ruthlessness...
He was somewhat exhausted, using his blood-stained wooden sword to support himself as he looked at Xu Yi, who was squatting on the ground in front of him... His mouth was dry, but he still managed to walk step by step to Xu Yi. He put down the wooden sword and knelt down opposite Xu Yi... He cupped Xu Yi's face in his hands and immediately saw Xu Yi's eyes glowing red... Then he saw a blank, expressionless face...
He called softly, "Xu Yi?"
Xu Yi didn't react, so he hugged her cheeks and shook them again: "Xu Yi?"
Xu Yi still didn't move, but her hair and nails were rapidly shortening, and the red light in her eyes was gradually fading... He saw Xu Yi's head move, her eyes blinked rapidly, her face full of doubt, and she called his name lightly: "Wu... Wu Zi?"
Wu Zi let out a long sigh of relief, then slumped back as if deflated, before exclaiming, "You're finally awake, Xu Yi..."
