16 Chapter 16
◎The month you sat in front of me cast a shadow on me◎
As soon as Jiang Xun finished speaking, a burst of relaxed laughter rang out in the team, and everyone adjusted their breathing and continued to climb up.
Jiang Xun deliberately moved closer to Sang Xinqi and gently bumped her shoulder. "Hey, you're not scared too, are you?"
"Who's afraid?" Sang Xinqi glared at him.
Jiang Xun raised his eyebrows and said "Yo", and his expression that asked for a beating made Sang Xinqi clench her fists.
There were many tourists on the mountain road. Sang Xinqi held on to the cold iron railings and moved forward with difficulty. Her legs felt as heavy as if they were tied with sandbags.
Her throat felt like it was on fire, so she stopped to get some water, only to find that the bottle in her backpack was already empty. She had no idea when she had finished it.
Just as he was about to call Jiang Xun in front of him, he suddenly heard a clear voice coming from the side, "If you don't mind, drink mine first?"
A bony hand holding a half-full bottle of mineral water was handed to me.
Sang Xinqi took it without thinking, "Thank you."
There was still some warmth left at the mouth of the bottle. She tilted her head back and gulped down half the bottle, and her thirsty throat was finally relieved.
"Here," she handed the bottle back and noticed Liao Yishen's slightly narrowed eyes, like a bottomless pool of water under the sun.
Ever since that ambiguous conversation, both of them tacitly agreed not to mention it again, as if it had never happened.
Finally, the four of them reached the top of the mountain panting.
Jiang Xun rushed to the edge of the observation deck, opened his arms wide, and jumped up like a child, "Ah - we're finally here! I'm so tired," his shouts echoed in the valley.
Sang Xinqi couldn't help laughing out loud, and raised her hand to tuck the wet hair stuck to her cheeks behind her ears. Her chubby face was now white and rosy, like a ripe peach, and there were crystal beads of sweat hanging on the hair on her forehead.
"I'm almost falling apart..." She let out a long sigh and leaned limply against the stone wall on the top of the mountain, as if she would slide to the ground if she let go.
The sunlight shone through the clouds onto her slightly undulating shoulders, giving her outline a golden edge.
Sang Xinqi raised her face, the sunlight dancing on her eyelashes, and reached out to Jiang Xun, "Jiang Xun, take out the camera, let's take a photo!"
"Okay!" Jiang Xun took out the camera from his bag swiftly, the metal casing gleaming in the sunlight.
Sang Xinqi pulled Liao Yishen over and stood in front of a protruding rock. "Take a picture of us first!"
Jiang Xun narrowed his eyes, looked through the camera, and suddenly smiled, "Brother Liao, don't be so stern, smile!"
Liao Yishen pursed his lips and nodded slightly stiffly. He has never been good at facing the camera and his facial expression management is almost non-existent.
Meng Qixiang leaned beside him, smiling mischievously, "Don't embarrass Brother Liao. He looked like he was kidnapped when he took the photo."
"Click——" Jiang Xun pressed the shutter button and the picture froze.
In the camera, Sang Xinqi smiled brightly, with her scissors hand playfully placed against her cheek, and Liao Yishen... the corners of his mouth actually rose slightly for a moment.
"Brother Meng! Come here, let's take a photo of the three of us!" Sang Xinqi waved to Meng Qixiang.
Jiang Xun curled his lips, "I want to be in the camera too..."
"You are the photographer, start working first!" Sang Xinqi said confidently.
Jiang Xun was helpless and raised his camera to command, "Change your pose! Raise your hands higher!"
The three of them posed together, and Sang Xinqi even jumped up and made a big "V" sign, with her hair flying in the wind.
After taking the photos, she asked for the camera. After looking at a few pictures, she nodded with satisfaction. "Not bad, not bad. They look very good. Jiang Xun, your technique is good."
Jiang Xun smiled proudly, "That's right."
She smiled, her eyes curved, "I'll take a picture for you."
Hearing this, the three of them found a place to stand.
She moved very quickly, snapping several photos without waiting for them to adjust their expressions. Jiang Xun frowned, "Aren't you being too perfunctory?"
"This is called candid photography, understand?" Sang Xinqi proudly waved the camera. "I guarantee it's more natural than your posed shots!"
Jiang Xun leaned over to take a look and was stunned. The three people in the photo were standing on the edge of a cliff with the vast sky behind them. The wind blew up the corners of their clothes, and even Liao Yishen's stern profile was coated with a soft halo.
"Not bad!" Jiang Xun grinned, "It really makes me look particularly handsome."
Meng Qixiang also nodded, "Yeah, my profile is amazing."
Sang Xinqi raised her chin proudly, "Of course, anything I do will be a masterpiece!"
The sun had not yet set, but thinking that Tao Wen and the others were waiting for them at the foot of the mountain, they did not delay any longer and went down the mountain with a camera full of youthful memories.
The mountain breeze gently brushed through the tips of his hair, and halfway up the mountain, Jiang Xun's cell phone suddenly rang.
"We're already at the foot of the mountain and waiting for you at the gate," Tao Wen's voice came through the receiver.
Jiang Xun glanced at his companions who were packing their backpacks and responded briefly, "Okay, we're getting ready to go down too."
"You guys aren't going to watch the sunset?" Tao Wen's voice suddenly rose, with obvious surprise.
Jiang Xun put the camera back into his bag and said calmly, "It's too late to watch the sunset. I won't watch it anymore."
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone before Tao Wen responded with a hint of regret, "Okay."
The way down the mountain was smoother than expected.
The bluestone steps glowed dimly in the twilight, and the group soon arrived at the foot of the mountain. As soon as they walked out of the gate of the scenic area, they saw Tao Wen and Liao Yishen standing under the ginkgo tree waiting.
"Tao Wen, Yan Yan," Sang Xinqi trotted over to greet them, her hair on her forehead soaked with sweat, sticking to her flushed cheeks.
She sat down on the steps beside the flower bed, her chest heaving slightly.
Tao Wen handed over a tissue and said with a smile, "You guys are pretty fast."
"We jogged all the way here," Sang Xinqi took the tissue and gently pressed it on her neck. At this moment, a bony hand came into view, holding a bottle of mineral water.
She raised her head and met Liao Yishen's hesitant expression. "Drink some water," he said in a low voice, as if afraid of disturbing the twilight.
"Thank you," Sang Xinqi took the water bottle, her fingertips accidentally brushing against the back of the other person's hand.
She subconsciously unscrewed the bottle cap, but found that it had already been considerately loosened by someone.
This discovery made her mouth curl up unconsciously. When she raised her head to drink water, she caught a glimpse of a slight blush on the tip of Liao Yishen's ear.
Chen Yanyan stood at the edge of the crowd, looking past the noisy tourists at the mountains gradually disappearing into the twilight.
The wind gently lifted her drooping hair, and also swept away the unspoken expectations.
"I heard there's a pedestrian street two kilometers away. Shall we go for a walk?" Tao Wen suddenly suggested, her eyes sparkling.
Sang Xinqi responded immediately, "Okay! I'm hungry."
She moved her ankles. Although her feet ached slightly in her sneakers, she was extremely excited.
Jiang Xun came over and looked down at her, "Can you still walk?"
"No problem!" Sang Xinqi jumped up and spun around, her ponytail swaying in the air in a cheerful arc. "It's just that the soles of my feet are protesting a little, but my stomach is crying out for something delicious to soothe it."
She winked, making everyone laugh.
The pedestrian street is bustling with people, and various snack stalls are emitting tempting aromas. The cumin flavor of barbecue and the spicy taste of grilled squid are interwoven into a mouth-watering web in the summer night air.
The six people followed the fragrance through the crowd and finally stopped in front of a milk tea shop.
"I want some iced lemon tea," Sang Xinqi stood on tiptoe to look at the menu, the strands of hair on her forehead swaying slightly with the movement.
Liao Yishen stood half a step behind her, his eyes unconsciously falling on the small swirl on the top of her hair. Then he looked up at the waiter, "I'm the same as her."
"Okay."
After ordering milk tea, the six people waited.
Fortunately, the milk tea was made quickly and I didn’t have to wait too long before I got the ice-cold milk tea. Sang Xinqi couldn’t wait to put in the straw.
The cold milk tea slid down my throat, dispelling the heat of the summer night.
Sang Xinqi narrowed her eyes contentedly, like a sated cat.
Seeing her like this, Liao Yishen felt itchy in his heart and had the urge to reach out and touch her head, but he restrained himself.
They walked around the pedestrian street for nearly an hour, until the street lights gradually came on, and then they reluctantly rushed to the meeting point.
Many returning tourists have gathered at the entrance of the scenic area.
When the tour guide was waving small flags to count the number of people, Sang Xinqi realized that her calves were already aching.
The moment she boarded the bus, fatigue washed over her like a tide, and she almost fell into her seat.
"I'm so tired," she muttered softly, and out of the corner of her eye she saw Liao Yishen sitting down next to her. Meng Qixiang originally wanted to sit in this seat, but was pulled away by Jiang Xun on the pretext of discussing game strategies.
Thinking of Jiang Xun's secret assist, Sang Xinqi's ears turned red.
In fact, she didn't care about this, but Jiang Xun had assisted her, so she certainly couldn't let him down.
"Go to sleep for a while," Liao Yishen's voice was very soft, like a feather brushing past his ear.
Sang Xinqi nodded and closed her eyes, but she couldn't find a comfortable position. The bus smelled of sweat, snacks, and the cool air from the air conditioner, making her frown unconsciously.
After a while, she felt a pair of eyes falling on her.
She wanted to open her eyes but didn't want to.
That gaze seemed to have substance, lingering from her trembling eyelashes to her slightly pursed lips.
Sang Xinqi's heart suddenly started beating wildly, as if a deer was running rampant in her chest. She turned her face towards the car window.
Liao Yishen looked at her silhouette reflected in the car window. The light and shadow of the street lamp flowed on her face, outlining a delicate contour.
Sang Xinqi moved and opened her eyes pretending to be uncomfortable.
Liao Yishen looked at her, "Can't sleep?"
Sang Xinqi adjusted her sitting position, leaning her head against the back of the chair, looking at him with a slightly tilted back, and lied, "I felt like I was about to drool, so I suddenly woke up."
Hearing this, Liao Yishen smiled softly, "Are you still sleeping?"
His faint smile always confuses her. She nodded drowsily, "Sleep."
Liao Yishen said, "Okay, go to sleep."
Sang Xinqi closed her eyes again.
Sometimes she would tease him boldly, but she could remain calm and collected. But at this moment, his burning gaze fell on her, making her feel inexplicably shy.
I couldn't help but sigh in my heart. It turns out that liking someone can really make people become contradictory and clumsy.
The bus passed over a speed bump, and the slight bump caused their shoulders to touch inadvertently, but neither of them moved away.
Just like that, in the darkness of the night, with the help of moonlight and lamplight, I cautiously moved one centimeter closer.
Sang Xinqi didn't know when she fell asleep, but when she woke up, she found herself leaning on Liao Yishen's shoulder. She hurriedly straightened up, her sleepy eyes still glistening with tears, and her eyelashes trembling slightly.
"Are we almost there?" She rubbed her sore eyes, her voice soft and sleepy.
Liao Yishen looked at the street scene passing by outside the window, his Adam's apple moving slightly, "Almost there, only one kilometer to the stadium."
"Why don't you push me away?" Sang Xinqi patted her burning cheeks, trying to sober herself up. "It's so heavy."
The boy's profile flickered under the streetlight, but his voice was remarkably clear, "This way you can sleep better and not feel deep."
It was just a simple sentence, but it made Sang Xinqi's heart feel sweet as if it were filled with honey. She pursed her lips and smiled secretly, her fingertips unconsciously twisting the corner of her clothes, "As long as it doesn't sink."
The one-kilometer journey passed in a flash. They were the last group to get off the bus, which quickly disappeared into the night, leaving only six people standing at the stadium entrance, staring at each other in bewilderment.
"School starts tomorrow," Meng Qixiang put his hands behind his head, looked up at the starry sky and sighed, "I suddenly don't want school to start anymore."
Tao Wen immediately raised her hand and agreed, "Plus one! It feels like this month has passed so quickly. I'm so happy."
"But even after school starts, we will still be good friends," she turned to look at Sang Xinqi and Jiang Xun.
Jiang Xun smiled and nodded, "Of course we are good friends."
"Good friends forever," Sang Xinqi added solemnly, but her eyes unconsciously drifted towards Liao Yishen, and happened to meet his gaze.
The two of them looked away at the same time as if they had been electrocuted, but they couldn't help but glance at each other again in the next second.
Chen Yanyan suddenly said dejectedly, "The academic workload in senior year is very intense, so there will be even fewer opportunities to meet in the future."
"You four are fine, you're all in the same school," Jiang Xun pointed at the four people from No. 1 Middle School. "Sangsang and I are in No. 2 Middle School, so we're not even on the same street as you."
Sang Xinqi nodded, and suddenly felt a sense of loss in her heart.
"It's okay!" Tao Wen said energetically, breaking the silence. "We can make an appointment to hang out on the weekend, or go to the library to study together."
Meng Qixiang's eyes lit up. "Yes! We can still come to the gym during the holidays. My uncle is just running a cram school during the summer vacation, but this classroom is empty anyway, why don't we use it?"
"But it's really hard to be apart..." Jiang Xun's voice choked with sobs, "It would be great if we could stay in the same school forever."
Sang Xinqi rolled her eyes at him angrily, "You regret it now? Who was the one who skipped classes to play games all day back then?"
"You make it sound like you're working very hard," Jiang Xun retorted unconvinced.
"That's not my ambition!" Sang Xinqi raised her chin and said confidently.
Jiang Xun immediately replied, "What a coincidence, me too!"
Sang Xinqi was speechless for a moment and could only glare at him angrily.
Everyone else couldn't help but laugh as they watched this funny couple bickering as usual. From the time they first met until now, they've always been like this: one loves to play around, the other loves to argue.
"Okay," Meng Qixiang sighed softly, his eyes sweeping gently over everyone, "We all have to work hard and strive to get into our ideal university."
Chen Yanyan nodded and added softly, "Even if we're not in the same school, we should try to be in the same city so that we can go shopping and eat together on weekends."
"But..." Meng Qixiang hesitated, "I want to apply to the university in Mucheng."
"Mucheng?" Sang Xinqi's eyes widened in surprise. "So far away? Why?"
A trace of longing flashed in Meng Qiwang's eyes, and the corners of his mouth unconsciously raised, "It's just... I really like the blue sky and grassland there. I feel so free."
After a brief silence, Tao Wen was the first to break it. "If you want to go, go!" She smiled and patted Meng Qixiang's shoulder. "Then we'll form a group to visit you. I also want to go horseback riding on the grassland."
"Really?" Meng Qixiang's eyes lit up, and he immediately held up his little finger. "Then it's a deal!"
Everyone was talking about plans for future gatherings and the future, and only said goodbye reluctantly when the night grew darker.
Sang Xinqi, Jiang Xun and Liao Yishen were going the same way, so they took a taxi together.
In the car, Jiang Xun suddenly turned his head and looked at the back seat, "Brother Liao, which way do you go to school?"
Liao Yishen glanced at the map on his phone and paused, "Rose Road."
"Ah?" Jiang Xun looked puzzled. "Isn't Yueliu Road closer to your school?"
"If you take that road, you have to go through the back door of the community," Liao Yishen said calmly, "I don't like going through the back door."
Sang Xinqi couldn't help laughing when she heard that: "Our Liao Yishen has to rely on his own strength!" Her curved eyebrows made Liao Yishen's ears slightly red.
Jiang Xun scribbled on the map, "Although Rose Road is a bit far, it happens to be along our route for a while. When you reach the intersection of Tangguo Road, you go right and we go left."
"Really?" Sang Xinqi opened her eyes wide in surprise, "Then maybe we'll meet again!"
Liao Yishen looked at her excited expression, and the corners of his mouth rose unconsciously, "Yeah, it really can."
In the darkness of the night, the taxi drove past one street lamp after another, and the shadows of three people overlapped and separated on the car window.
Sang Xinqi looked at the lights passing by outside the window and suddenly felt that the upcoming senior year of high school did not seem so scary anymore.
-
The September morning light filtered into the room through the gauze curtains. Sang Xinqi was curled up in bed, soundly sleeping, when she was suddenly awakened by a burst of hurried footsteps.
"Sangsang, if you don't get up now you're going to be late!" Sang Guoyu pulled back the quilt, curled up her body, and reached out to look for the quilt, but couldn't find it.
She frowned and dragged herself to wash up reluctantly like a cat that was forcibly awakened.
The person in the mirror had messy hair and sleepy eyes. Sang Xinqi splashed cold water on her face and finally woke up a little.
When she finished packing and arrived at the restaurant, her mother had already prepared steaming buns and millet porridge.
"You're acting like this on the first day of school," Sang Guoyu pushed the peeled eggs in front of her. "It's not too late to be late later."
Sang Xinqi protested incoherently, holding a steamed bun in her mouth, "How can a mother encourage her daughter to be late like this..."
Sang Guoyu suddenly put down her phone, her eyes lighting up. "Oh, by the way, that 'Hanbo Award' fashion design competition you participated in..."
"Any news?" Sang Xinqi woke up instantly and even forgot to chew her buns.
"You've made it to the finals," before her mother finished speaking, Sang Xinqi jumped up, and the chair made a harsh sound on the floor.
"Really? Mom!" Her voice trembled with excitement, and her fingers unconsciously grabbed the tablecloth.
Sang Guoyu looked at her daughter with a smile, "Don't get excited, don't get excited. Seriously, in three months we'll be taking the finished product to the capital to compete in the finals."
Sang Xinqi felt something expand in her chest, even her breathing became lighter. Suddenly, her breakfast seemed bland, her mind filled with design drawings and fabric samples.
"I should have told you tonight," her mother said helplessly, looking at her absent-minded appearance. "This will definitely affect your class."
Sang Xinqi shook her head, "No."
She sat down to eat, but her mind was already wandering.
After dinner, the mother and daughter hurried out.
The early autumn wind was slightly cool. Sang Xinqi ran downstairs and saw Jiang Xun leaning on her electric scooter from a distance.
"Oh, you're smiling so brightly so early in the morning?" Jiang Xun raised his eyebrows and looked at her unconcealable joy.
Sang Xinqi snorted proudly and got on the back seat.
Jiang Xun deliberately didn't start the car, turned around and asked, "Tell me quickly, what's the good news?"
"My clothing design has been shortlisted for the Hanbo Award finals!"
Jiang Xun braked suddenly, almost throwing her out. "Holy shit! Is this true?"
Sang Xinqi said, "Of course it's true."
After getting the confirmation, he excitedly slapped the handlebars and said, "I have to treat you! I want a big meal."
"I know!" Sang Xinqi suddenly remembered something and poked him on the back. "By the way, where are the sewing machine and badminton racket you promised me?"
Jiang Xun wailed, "You still remember this when you're so happy?" Seeing he couldn't escape, he honestly confessed, "I'm on the way."
The electric scooter was moving in the morning light. Sang Xinqi grabbed the corner of Jiang Xun's clothes and quickly retreated while watching the familiar street scene.
On the first day of school, the gate of No. 2 Middle School was crowded with people, and students in school uniforms flocked into the campus like birds returning to their nests.
"Wait for me after school!" After separating from Jiang Xun in the teaching building, Sang Xinqi took a deep breath and pushed open the classroom door.
After not seeing each other for a whole summer, the classroom was filled with the long-lost hustle and bustle.
"Sangsang," Chang Yisi jumped up from his seat and gave her a tight hug, "I miss you so much!"
"Don't give me that," Sang Xinqi smiled and pushed her away. "Are you having fun in Europe?"
Chang Yisi immediately became alert and took out a photo from her mobile phone, "Look at this, we were under the Eiffel Tower..." The two girls looked at the photos head to head, and only separated reluctantly when the bell rang.
The head teacher quickly walked into the classroom with steady steps.
Their class teacher was a chubby middle-aged man with a slightly bulging beer belly that made his shirt a little tight, and his sparse hair formed a "Mediterranean" pattern on his head.
As soon as he entered the door, he habitually cleared his throat and began his familiar opening remarks - first lamenting the passing of time, then preaching earnestly, and finally ending with an impassioned summary.
The lengthy lecture was finally over. At this time, students from other classes came to notify that they were to collect new textbooks. The head teacher immediately called the name of the class monitor and randomly designated a few boys to go with them.
As soon as they left, the classroom exploded.
The students gathered in groups of three or four, excitedly discussing their summer vacation experiences. However, the noise didn't last long. About twenty minutes later, the homeroom teacher and his group returned, carrying piles of textbooks.
The new books were distributed to each person one by one. Sang Xinqi carefully stroked the brand new cover and even wrote her name with extreme care, for fear of wrinkling a corner.
After distributing the textbooks, the first class is coming to an end.
The bell for the second class rang on time, and the math teacher walked in with the lesson plan.
Although the teacher was a bit old-fashioned, his teaching style was lively and engaging. However, on the first day of school, the students were clearly not fully into the class, and the classroom atmosphere was a bit dull.
The experienced math teacher understood what I meant and ended the course by simply explaining some basic content.
In the blink of an eye, all the morning classes were over.
The afternoon seemed long, but when everyone was immersed in studying, time passed by very quickly.
The school bell rang suddenly, and the classroom was filled with the clatter of desks and chairs. Sang Xinqi quickly packed her bag and joined the crowd as they headed towards the classroom door, then the school gate.
While waving goodbye to her deskmate, Sang Xinqi caught a glimpse of Jiang Xun waving at her from a distance. She couldn't help but quicken her pace and walked over, jumping lightly onto the back seat of his electric scooter.
The evening breeze blows across my cheeks, bringing the unique freshness of early autumn.
The two of them shared interesting stories about the first day of school, and their laughter spread into the deepening dusk.
The wheels made a crackling sound as they rolled over the fallen leaves, as if setting a brisk beat for their conversation.
"By the way, do you think we will meet Brother Liao?" Jiang Xun suddenly turned around and asked, with a hint of anticipation in his voice.
"I don't know," Sang Xinqi replied softly, her fingertips unconsciously stroking the strap of her schoolbag.
During the afternoon classes, her thoughts always drifted away uncontrollably. Several times, she vaguely thought that the tall figure in the front row was Liao Yishen.
But every time I wake up, I feel a little lost.
The electric bike turned the familiar street corner and the street lights lit up one after another.
Sang Xinqi looked at the scenery that was constantly receding and sighed quietly.
Jiang Xun said regretfully, "It seems I won't be able to meet her again."
Sang Xinqi thought of something and said, "Is there a possibility that he wasn't riding a bike?"
Jiang Xun exclaimed, "Yes, he's farther away than us. It would take him a long time to ride a bike. He might have taken the bus."
Sang Xinqi nodded, "Yes, we didn't ask."
Jiang Xun tutted his words, "But I don't want to meet him as badly as someone else does."
Sang Xinqi: “…”
She pinched his waist and said, "Shut up. No one will think you're dumb if you don't speak."
Jiang Xun's face twisted in pain, "You are so cruel."
They arrived home in a happy and cheerful mood.
After saying goodbye in the corridor, Sang Xinqi quickly opened the door.
The aroma of food wafted from the kitchen. Her mother, Sang Guoyu, was busy at the stove. She hurriedly called out, "Mom, I'm going to do my homework first."
After receiving the mother's response of "Go ahead", he rushed into his room.
As soon as the door closed and before she even put down her schoolbag, she couldn't wait to pull out her phone. Her fingertips hovered hesitantly over the screen, she deleted and revised her message several times before finally sending out a seemingly ordinary greeting: "How was your first day of school?"
The phone screen dimmed and brightened, brightened and dimmed again, but there was still no new message notification. Sang Xinqi sighed and forced herself to turn her attention to her homework.
But every few minutes, her eyes would uncontrollably glance at her silent phone.
"Forget it!" She suddenly turned her phone to silent mode and threw it to the corner of the bed, as if to cut off this source of temptation.
The pen tip rustled on the paper, but my thoughts were always out of control.
"Sangsang, it's time for dinner," mother called at the right time.
She almost pounced on her phone, and the moment the screen lit up, four unread messages made her heart beat faster.
"good."
"And you?"
"Why aren't you answering?"
"Didn't you check your phone?"
Sang Xinqi slapped her forehead in frustration and muttered quietly, "I can't wait for the message with the notification sound on, and it comes when I mute it. What a shame..."
She quickly replied, "I'm feeling okay. I was just doing my homework. I'm going to eat now."
After sending the message, he put his phone in his pocket and walked towards the restaurant as if nothing had happened.
On the dining table, two dishes and a soup were steaming. Sang Xinqi picked up a piece of greens with her chopsticks and asked casually, "Mom, have you told my dad?"
"I said it," Sang Guoyu continued eating without raising her head.
"What did my dad say? Is there any reward?" The girl's eyes lit up.
Mother Sang chuckled, "Your dad said that if you get first place, he will give you a surprise."
"What surprise?" Sang Xinqi's chopsticks were hanging in the air.
"Is it still a surprise when you tell me?" her mother asked cunningly, making her curl her lips.
After dinner, Sang Xinqi finished the rest of her homework, washed up and lay down on the bed. She couldn't help but share the joy of the set meal with him. The light from her mobile phone screen reflected on her expectant face.
Finally, a new message popped up: "Congratulations."
Those three simple words made her heart skip a beat. She feigned composure and replied, "You're welcome."
After a moment's hesitation, she typed out another line: "The month you sat in front of me has left a shadow on me."
The other party quickly replied: "What do you mean?"
Sang Xinqi took a deep breath, her fingertips trembling slightly: "Today I kept imagining the person in front of me was you."
After sending this sentence, time seemed to be stretched out.
Five minutes passed, and the phone remained silent. Sang Xinqi buried her face in the pillow and muttered softly, "Isn't it scared away..."
I waited another ten minutes, still no response.
The loss came like a tide, but it was ultimately no match for the day's fatigue, and she gradually fell asleep.
