40 Chapter 40

◎I will warm your bed every day from now on◎

Sang Xinqi gently closed the door, completely isolating Jiang Xun's noisy voice. She leaned against the door, took a long breath, and a smile unconsciously appeared on the corner of her mouth.

"I'm really impressed by Jiang Xun..." She muttered softly, her fingertips unconsciously stroking the door handle. Although she complained, a warm feeling surged in her heart. If it weren't for this funny guy's help, her relationship with Liao Yishen would not have progressed so smoothly.

"I'll get you a set of toiletries," Sang Xinqi turned and looked at Liao Yishen who was standing in the middle of the room, her voice unconsciously softened.

Liao Yishen nodded, his eyes following her figure gently, "Okay, go ahead."

It was late at night, and the two of them quickly turned off the lights and lay down after a simple wash.

Darkness instantly enveloped the entire room, with only the occasional sound of wind outside the window gently tapping on the glass. Sang Xinqi curled up in Liao Yishen's arms like a kitten, her cheek pressed against his warm chest.

"The heater's on in the room..." Her voice was muffled by the fabric of her pajamas, a hint of coquettishness in it. "But every time I get into bed, I feel chilly. But these past two days, with you in my bed, it's instantly warm."

She tilted her head back, vaguely able to see his chiseled jawline in the darkness. "You're like a walking stove."

Liao Yishen chuckled softly, and his chest vibrated slightly.

He tightened his arms around her and placed a soft kiss on the top of her head. "I'll warm your bed every day from now on."

"Yeah!" Sang Xinqi happily nuzzled into his arms again, her nose filled with his refreshing scent. "It's a deal."

"Okay, go to sleep," his low voice was particularly gentle in the night.

"good evening."

Gradually, the sounds of their breathing blended together, becoming long and steady. The wind outside the window also gradually died down, as if it couldn't bear to disturb the lovers sleeping in each other's embrace.

The next morning, Sang Xinqi slowly woke up from her sleep.

The room was dimly lit, with not a single ray of sunlight filtering through the gaps in the curtains. Only the gray sky shone through, shrouding the entire room in a quiet, dark tone.

She blinked and gradually regained consciousness. She turned her head and saw Liao Yishen was still sleeping soundly, breathing steadily and long.

She gently propped up her arms, half supporting her body, and her eyes carefully traced his outline.

She has deep brow bones, a high nose bridge, thin lips, and a clean jawline. Even with her eyes closed, she can't hide her cool and noble temperament.

Her boyfriend is so handsome.

Sang Xinqi couldn't help but curl the corners of her lips, and gently stroked his eyebrows with her fingertips, as if she wanted to carve his appearance into her heart.

Fortunately, he was still hers.

Fortunately, he was still willing to accept her again.

Thinking of this, she felt a little annoyed. How could she have been so willful when she was young? How could she have been willing to push away such a good person?

She sighed silently, withdrew her hand, touched the phone on the bedside table and checked the time. It was ten o'clock.

She thought it would be six or seven at most!

The sky outside the window is gloomy. It looks like it will be a cloudy day today. No wonder the room is so dark.

She had just put down her phone when she suddenly noticed the person next to her move.

Turning around, Liao Yishen had already woken up.

His brows were slightly furrowed, still drowsy, his black hair a bit messy and scattered across his forehead, making his skin look cold and pale. The collar of his pajamas was loose, revealing a slender neck. His Adam's apple rolled gently with his breathing, and the lines of his collarbone were clearly defined. He exuded a lazy and sexy aura.

Sang Xinqi swallowed unconsciously, her eyes seemed to be glued to the scene and she couldn't move them away.

"...What time is it?" His voice was low and hoarse, with a hint of sleepiness, like sandpaper gently rubbing against the eardrum, and a tingling sensation instantly ran up his spine.

Sang Xinqi curled her fingertips slightly and whispered, "It's past ten o'clock."

Liao Yishen raised his hand and rubbed his brow, then turned sideways and hugged her in his arms, resting his chin on the top of her head, and said in a muffled voice, "Don't keep looking at me."

Sang Xinqi's heart beat faster because of his sudden action. With her palm against his chest, she could clearly feel his steady heartbeat and warm body temperature.

"Why?" she asked deliberately.

Liao Yishen chuckled, his voice deeper, "No reason."

If he continued to be stared at by her sparkling eyes, he was afraid that he would not be able to control himself and do something.

The two of them cuddled in bed for a while before reluctantly getting up. Sang Xinqi stepped barefoot on the soft carpet, walked to the window, and quickly opened the curtains, then opened her eyes wide in surprise.

"Liao Yishen!" She turned and called out, her voice full of joy. "Come and see, it's snowing outside!"

Liao Yishen was tidying up his pajamas and walked over quickly when he heard the words.

Outside the window, I saw the world covered in silver, with goose-feather-like snowflakes still falling. The whole world was shrouded in pure white.

"It's the first snow of the year," Sang Xinqi said, pressing her hands against the glass. The hot air from her breath created a small mist on the window. Her eyes sparkled, as if filled with starlight.

Liao Yishen hugged her from behind, his chin resting lightly on the top of her head, his warm breath brushing her ears, "Mm, very beautiful."

"Right, right?" Sang Xinqi leaned back in his arms and looked up at the falling snowflakes.

Liao Yishen tightened his arms and whispered in her ear, "This is the first snow we've seen."

Sang Xinqi thought about it and realized that it was true. There was no snow in the winter when they were together.

She turned around, put her arms around his neck, and her eyes curved into crescents. "From now on, we will watch the first snow of every year together, okay?"

"Okay," Liao Yishen lowered his head and placed a light kiss on the tip of her nose, "Not just the first snow, but every day from now on, we will spend it together."

The snow outside the window continued to fall quietly, while the temperature inside seemed to have risen a few degrees. Sang Xinqi buried her face in his chest and said sullenly, "It's a deal, no regrets."

Liao Yishen chuckled softly, his chest vibrating slightly, "I won't."

The two stood by the window, quietly admiring this unexpected first snowfall. Snowflakes landed silently on the branches and eaves, and also on their intertwined thoughts, gently covering up the unpleasantness of the past.

Sang Xinqi's refrigerator was empty, so the two had to move to the room across the street. As soon as they entered, Liao Yishen walked towards the kitchen as if he knew the place well.

"Is the chef about to start working?" Sang Xinqi leaned against the kitchen door frame and watched him roll up his sleeves with a smile.

Liao Yishen turned around and raised an eyebrow at her, "Keep a low profile."

"Yes, yes, our Chef Liao is the most modest," Sang Xinqi walked in with a smile and took the initiative to tie an apron. "Let me help you."

The sound of spatulas colliding soon rang out in the kitchen. Amidst the steaming heat, the two of them worked in perfect harmony. Half an hour later, a sumptuous meal somewhere between breakfast and lunch was served on the table.

"It's time for dinner—" Sang Xinqi had just put the last dish on the table when she heard the bedroom door creak open.

Jiang Xun rubbed his sleepy eyes and yawned as he stumbled out of bed. "Wow, what smells so good?"

Sang Xinqi almost couldn't resist the urge to roll her eyes.

They were busy in the kitchen for a long time but no one showed up. The food appeared on the table just as it was served. Isn't the timing too precise?

"Oh, Young Master Jiang woke up at the perfect time," Sang Xinqi said sarcastically, crossing her arms across her chest.

Jiang Xun didn't care about her yin and yang at all, and walked over to the dining table with a smile, "Of course not, my nose is most sensitive to delicious food."

"Is it your nose or your ears that are sensitive?" Sang Xinqi glanced meaningfully towards the bedroom.

"Oh, I woke up naturally because of the aroma," Jiang Xun shamelessly sat down and couldn't wait to pick up the chopsticks. "Brother Liao's cooking skills are really good. This fried egg is golden and crispy..."

Liao Yishen calmly poured a bowl of porridge and handed it to Sang Xinqi, ignoring Jiang Xun's flattery and saying, "Eat."

"Understood!" Jiang Xun immediately buried his head in eating, as if he had been hungry for several days.

Sang Xinqi looked at her friend wolfing down her food, feeling both angry and amused. "Eat slowly, no one's going to snatch it from you."

"That's hard to say," Jiang Xun mumbled with his mouth full. "If I don't hurry up, you two will finish this delicious meal."

"Jiang Xun! This is the meal we both prepared. It's what we deserve after eating at the night market," Sang Xinqi glared at him, but saw Liao Yishen already putting food into her bowl calmly.

The three of them enjoyed the brunch with laughter. The snow was still falling quietly outside the window, wrapping the whole world in warm tranquility.

The three of them set up a small table on the balcony, sipping hot coffee and admiring the snowy scenery outside the window. The aroma of the coffee mixed with the crisp winter air created a unique charm.

"It hasn't snowed in Qingcheng for two years," Jiang Xun sighed as he looked out the window.

Sang Xinqi paused slightly while holding the mug. She had been abroad for many years and knew very little about the climate changes in her hometown.

"Yes," Liao Yishen continued, his eyes far away. "Two years ago, there was a heavy snowfall for three consecutive days, and many pine branches in the south of the city were broken."

His voice was filled with the warmth of memories, and his fingertips unconsciously stroked the rim of the cup.

Sang Xinqi listened quietly to the two people talking about the past two years. The time she was absent gradually came alive in the conversation.

She noticed that when Liao Yishen talked about going to the old town for a midnight snack on a snowy night, the corners of his mouth unconsciously raised. It was a familiar expression in her memory, an expression he would only show when he was particularly happy.

The three of them chatted on the balcony for more than two hours, until Jiang Xun suddenly slammed the table and stood up, "It's so cold, we should eat hot pot!"

In the supermarket in the afternoon, three people pushed shopping carts between the shelves.

Sang Xinqi was responsible for selecting vegetables, Liao Yishen carefully compared the quality of various meat rolls, and Jiang Xun threw a bunch of snacks and beer into the car.

When checking out, the cashier looked at their large and small bags of ingredients and said with a smile, "We're having hot pot tonight."

Jiang Xun replied, "Yes."

On the way back, the snow had lessened a lot.

Jiang Xun suddenly grabbed a handful of snow and rolled it into a ball, then attacked Liao Yishen who was opening the door. The snowball exploded on Liao Yishen's shoulder, causing Sang Xinqi to laugh out loud.

Soon, the three of them started a snowball fight in the open space of the community. The cold snow particles got into their sleeves and made their fingers red, but their playful laughter made the cold air warm.

At six o'clock in the evening, the hot pot soup base was bubbling on the induction cooker. The three of them sat around the dining table and put the fresh ingredients into the pot one by one. The beef rolls quickly changed color in the boiling soup, the mushrooms rose and fell on the golden soup surface, and the lettuce slices were green and lovely.

Jiang Xun popped open the beer can, and white foam happily poured out. He raised his glass high and said loudly, "Come on, let's celebrate by witnessing the first snow of the year together!"

Sang Xinqi pursed her lips and smiled, also raising her glass, but deliberately said, "To celebrate Liao Yishen and I watching the first snow together, and to bring along Jiang Xun, who's been eating and drinking for free."

Jiang Xun's hand, which was holding the glass, froze in mid-air, and his expression instantly fell. "What do you mean? What do you mean?"

"What? You think I'm a third wheel?" He put down his wine glass and pointed out with a hurt look on his face.

Sang Xinqi smiled until her eyes curved into crescents and nodded confidently, "Yes."

"Good fellow, you're going to destroy the bridge after crossing it, aren't you?" Jiang Xun exaggeratedly covered his chest. "Who helped you back then? If I hadn't insisted on going to that cram school, would you two have met? Now you think I'm in the way?"

Liao Yishen and Sang Xinqi smiled at each other, with sweetness that could not be hidden in their eyes.

Liao Yishen cleared his throat and said solemnly, "When we get married, I will definitely give you a big fish."

"Fish?" Jiang Xun looked confused. "Why fish?"

"You didn't even know that?" Sang Xinqi raised an eyebrow in surprise. "According to traditional customs, the newlyweds should give fish to the matchmaker as a thank you gift. It's both a thank you to the matchmaker and a sign of respect for wedding customs."

Jiang Xun suddenly realized something, and his eyes lit up. "Then you better hurry!" He rubbed his hands together, looking greedy. "I can already smell the aroma of the braised fish!"

"Okay," Liao Yishen responded briefly, his voice filled with unquestionable firmness.

Sang Xinqi turned her head to look at him, her eyes gleaming with anticipation, as if silently asking: When?

Liao Yishen met her gaze, a gentle smile on his face.

He gently held her hand and interlocked their fingers under the table, but he just blinked meaningfully and did not give a clear answer.

The steam from the hot pot lingered between the three of them, and snowflakes fell silently outside the window.

The warmth and tacit understanding at this moment made Sang Xinqi suddenly feel that perhaps there was no need to rush to know the answer, because some promises did not need to be spoken out loud.

After having a good meal and a drink, Jiang Xun confidently said that the roads were slippery and not suitable for driving in the snow, and she successfully stayed overnight again. Liao Yishen followed her into her residence and suddenly remembered a saying: The first time a couple stays together is often just the beginning of countless nights.

Outside the window, the snow began to fall quietly again.

In the bedroom, Liao Yishen hugged her from behind, his warm breath brushing her ears, "What are you thinking about?"

Sang Xinqi leaned back into his arms and whispered, "I was thinking... every time it snows from now on, we have to eat hot pot together."

Liao Yishen chuckled and tightened his arms, "Okay, I'll remember that."
