44? Chapter 44

44 Chapter 44

◎So impatient?◎

Sang Xinqi never thought that she would argue with Gu Chaoyan in the coffee shop, swearing at each other for a long time and finally parting on bad terms.

When she got off work, Liao Yishen came to pick her up.

After getting into the car, Sang Xinqi couldn't help but tell Liao Yishen about what Gu Chaoyan had done to her in the afternoon.

When she got excited, her voice rose a few degrees unconsciously.

"She's really meddling in other people's business. She actually went to your mom and told her about our breakup," Sang Xinqi said angrily.

Then, like a deflated ball, his voice dropped. "Tell me, will your mother dislike me anymore because of this?"

Liao Yishen chuckled. While waiting for the red light, he freed his right hand and gently held her slightly cold fingers. "Don't worry, it won't happen."

"But I did abandon you back then," Sang Xinqi said in a low voice with her head down.

Liao Yishen was about to speak when the light ahead turned green. He started the car and said, "You have your own pursuits. I can't stop you. But the past is the past. Let's just live in the present."

Sang Xinqi pursed her lips. She was quite touched by what he said. Although Yi Shen said that, she was still feeling uneasy.

With Gu Chaoyan's eloquent mouth, who knows what she will say to Liao's mother.

Before they knew it, they had arrived at the basement of the residential complex. Liao Yishen parked the car and looked at her tenderly. "If you're really worried, come home with me this Saturday to confirm it?"

"Huh?" Sang Xinqi turned her head abruptly, her almond-shaped eyes wide open. "I, I'm not ready yet!"

"nervous."

Liao Yishen said, "Don't be nervous, you have met my mother before."

Sang Xinqi pursed her lips and raised her fair cheeks. "We were young then, and I wasn't your girlfriend when we met. Now our statuses are different."

Liao Yishen held her face in his hands, his voice was soft but very firm, "You are the wife I have chosen, and I will meet you sooner or later."

After saying this, Sang Xinqi saw that the tips of his ears turned red at a speed visible to the naked eye. Sometimes she felt that Liao Yishen was even more shy than her.

"Okay," she lowered her eyes, but the corners of her mouth couldn't help but rise.

-

The two had originally agreed to meet his mother together on Saturday, but unexpectedly, Sang Xinqi received a call from Liao Yishen when she got off work the next night.

"Sangsang, my mother has been hospitalized suddenly. I'm in the hospital now," Liao Yishen's voice was exhausted on the other end of the phone. "I can't pick you up."

Sang Xinqi's heart tightened, and she immediately said, "It's okay. How is Auntie now?"

"Just finished the examination, it said there is fluid in the chest cavity, and some of it has been extracted for testing."

Sang Xinqi hummed, "I'm off work now. I'm at that hospital. I'll take a taxi over."

Liao Yishen said, "Not today, let's do it another day. I need to use an anti-inflammatory drip soon, and my mother is not in a good mood right now."

Sang Xinqi was silent for a moment, then agreed, "Then I'll go another day."

Liao Yishen, "Okay, go slowly and it's safe on the road."

After hanging up, Sang Xinqi stared at her phone for a while, then finally sent a message to Liao Yishen: "You haven't had dinner yet, right? I'll order some takeout for you."

After sending the message, Sang Xinqi hailed a taxi on the roadside.

She sat in and her phone vibrated.

Liao Yishen: "It's okay, I'll go buy some food after I'm done."

Sang Xinqi pursed her lips. Seeing his rejection, she felt uncomfortable. She said, "No, it's fine if you don't let me go, but can't I just show a little appreciation?"

It took a while for the reply to come: "OK."

Next is the hospital location.

Sang Xinqi opened the food delivery app and ordered Liao Yishen’s usual favorites as well as some lighter dishes.

After ordering, she sent a message to Liao Yishen.

-

Usually when they get home from get off work in the evening, when they are almost at the community, they will go to the nearby supermarket to buy groceries, and then go home to cook. Today she is alone, and she is a little uncomfortable for a while.

After getting off the taxi, Sang Xinqi felt a wave of loss in her heart, but it was quickly offset by the aroma of delicious food wafting around the street.

At this moment, my stomach started to growl cooperatively.

She walked towards the food street near the community. Since she started living with Liao Yishen, she rarely ate snacks outside.

She walked through the stalls one after another and finally bought a few of her favorite foods and took them back home.

Back in the house, she put it on the table, took a photo and sent it to Liao Yishen.

"With you not here, I don't feel any appetite for these foods."

Liao Yishen, who was in the hospital, looked at the pictures of spicy hot pot, duck products, snail noodles, and other snacks. He lowered his head and replied, "I have no appetite. Why did you buy so much?"

Sang Xinqi looked at the message and smiled: "None of these are as delicious as yours."

Liao Yishen: "I almost believed it."

Liao Yishen did not go home at night. The next morning, Sang Xinqi drove to work by herself. Her hand injury had healed long ago, but Liao Yishen still insisted on picking her up and dropping her off every day.

After finishing work in the afternoon, Sang Xinqi sent a message to Liao Yishen, then bought some gifts and went to the hospital. Along the way, her heart was beating fast and her palms holding the steering wheel were slightly sweaty.

As her car slowly drove into the hospital gate, she saw Liao Yishen's tall figure standing at the door waiting in the distance. She rolled down the window and called softly, "Liao Yishen."

The man strode over, opened the car door and sat in the passenger seat. "I'll take you to the parking lot," his voice was lower than usual.

Sang Xinqi nodded. She stared intently at the road ahead and subconsciously responded, "OK," when she heard the navigation prompt.

The underground parking lot was dimly lit, and Sang Xinqi parked the car carefully.

As soon as she unbuckled her seat belt, she was suddenly surrounded by a warm breath. Liao Yishen leaned over and hugged her tightly in his arms.

She was stunned for a moment, then she put her arms around his neck and asked softly, "What's wrong?"

Liao Yishen rested his chin on her shoulder. After a moment of silence, he muttered, "I just want to hug you."

Sang Xinqi's heart softened, and her fingertips gently combed his short hair, "You missed me, didn't you?"

The person in her arms hummed softly, and his warm breath brushed against her neck. The two of them hugged each other quietly until Sang Xinqi gently pushed him and said, "Let's go up."

Liao Yishen loosened his hand, a smile in his eyes, "Are you so impatient?"

"No way!" Sang Xinqi blushed and patted his arm. "I was just worried that Auntie would get anxious waiting."

"When the time comes, I'll say that parking spaces are hard to find," Liao Yishen unbuckled his seat belt calmly.

Sang Xinqi snorted coquettishly, pushed the door and got out of the car.

She walked around to the back of the car and opened the trunk, where six gift boxes were neatly stacked.

Liao Yishen followed and raised his eyebrows when he saw this, "Buying so much?"

"Not many, just six," Sang Xinqi said nervously.

Liao Yishen chuckled and took out the gift box. "Too many."

Sang Xinqi was carrying two cartons of milk and walking side by side with Liao Yishen in the hospital corridor.

She explained quietly as she walked, "They're all supplements. I looked them up online. They said draining the fluid will cause loss of nutrients."

She paused, pursed her lips a little embarrassedly, "Actually, I don't quite understand it either. Anyway, I just need to supplement more."

Liao Yishen looked at her serious face and couldn't help but chuckle, "Okay, my mom will be so happy when she sees this."

"Really?" Sang Xinqi's eyes lit up, and her steps quickened a bit, but then she seemed to remember something and lowered her voice, "I was worried that Gu Chaoyan would say bad things about me in front of your mother, and that Auntie would dislike me anymore."

Liao Yishen wanted to touch her head, but his hands were full of things, so he could only touch her lightly with his shoulder, "Don't worry, it won't happen."

The elevator stopped on the third floor of the inpatient department.

When they reached the ward door, Sang Xinqi suddenly grabbed Liao Yishen's shirt. "Wait!" She took a deep breath, her chest rising and falling slightly. "I'm still a little nervous."

Liao Yishen put down the gift in his hand and wrapped his warm palm around her slightly cold fingers. "Don't be nervous, it's okay."

He patted the back of her hand with his thumb, as if soothing a frightened animal.

Sang Xinqi nodded, closed her eyes and adjusted her breathing.

After a moment, she opened her eyes and looked at Liao Yishen firmly, "Knock on the door."

"Okay, then I'll knock," Liao Yishen said with a smile on his face.

"Knock."

After two soft "dong dong" sounds, the door opened from the inside.

The person who appeared at the door was Uncle Zhang, Liao Yishen's stepfather and an old friend of Sang Xinqi's father.

"Sangsang!" Uncle Zhang greeted with surprise. "Long time no see. You're getting prettier and prettier."

Sang Xinqi smiled politely, "Uncle Zhang is still as young as ever."

"Oh, I'm so old," Uncle Zhang smiled and waved his hand, stepping aside to make way. "Come in quickly."

Sang Xinqi walked into the ward, her eyes unconsciously falling on the bed. Before she could say anything, Aunt Li on the bed had already extended her hand towards her with a smile, "Sangsang is here."

"Aunt Li," Sang Xinqi walked forward quickly, her voice unconsciously softening a little.

"Yi Shen told me you were coming, and I was so happy to hear that," Aunt Li's gentle gaze fell on Sang Xinqi's face, and the fine lines at the corners of her eyes smoothed out.

This sentence was like a good medicine, instantly soothing the uneasiness in Sang Xinqi's heart. She subconsciously turned her head to look at Liao Yishen, who responded with an understanding smile, his eyes full of tenderness.

"Auntie, how are you feeling now?" Sang Xinqi leaned forward, her voice filled with genuine concern. "Are you feeling better?"

Aunt Li waved her hand and said in a relaxed tone, "Don't worry, it's not a big problem. The doctor said that the worst case scenario is just a minor operation."

"Surgery?" Sang Xinqi's heart tightened and she let out a soft cry unconsciously.

"It's a minor operation," Aunt Li patted her hand resting on the bedside soothingly. "The best-case scenario is that all the fluid is drained out, and she can be discharged after a few days of anti-inflammatory injections."

Sang Xinqi listened carefully, and her tense shoulders gradually relaxed. "That's good, I'm glad you're okay."

Her eyes swept across the flowers on the bedside table, then fell on the IV bottle, and her eyelashes trembled slightly.

Liao Yishen handed over a peeled apple at the right time, "Mom, have some fruit."

He winked at Sang Xinqi and said, "Sangsang picked this out specially."

"This child, he comes with so many things," Aunt Li scolded, but she couldn't hide the smile on her lips.
