45? Chapter 45

45 Chapter 45

◎Okay, okay, you said it was delicious even though it wasn’t.◎

Hearing this, Sang Xinqi pursed her lips embarrassedly, and the tips of her ears turned slightly red.

"By the way, did Gu Chaoyan come to our house a few days ago?" Liao Yishen suddenly remembered something.

Aunt Li paused for a moment. "Oh, how did you know?"

"She said it herself," Liao Yishen said in a light tone, but his eyes unconsciously drifted towards Sang Xinqi.

"Oh, this girl is completely different now," Aunt Li sighed. "She was so sweet when she came in, but after just a few words she started to sow discord between you and Sangsang."

Sang Xinqi felt a tightness in her heart when she heard this.

"She was saying things like, 'I abandoned you back then, and now I'm back, playing with you,'" Aunt Li snorted. "I asked her to leave right away. It's not that I'm partial to Sangsang, but I just think young people should be like Sangsang, independent-minded and ambitious. If you don't pursue your dreams in your prime years, are you going to waste your time trapped in romantic relationships?"

She looked at Aunt Li, and her throat suddenly tightened.

"Besides," Aunt Li smiled, the wrinkles at the corners of her eyes gentle, "The fact that you two have come together after all these twists and turns proves it's fate. Those eight years you missed out on are nothing. You can make up for them slowly over the rest of your life."

Sang Xinqi never expected that Liao Yishen's mother would say this. She said it so nicely and gently, which made her particularly moved. She glanced at Liao Yishen, and Liao Yishen reached out and held her hand, looking at her gently.

Aunt Li saw her son and his future daughter-in-law holding hands. She said to Uncle Zhang who was sitting next to them, "Look, these two are so sweet. I'm almost obsessed with them."

Hearing this, Sang Xinqi's cheeks flushed and she smiled embarrassedly.

-

In order not to disturb Aunt Li's rest, Sang Xinqi did not stay in the hospital for too long and got up to say goodbye.

Aunt Li insisted on getting out of bed to see her off, but she stopped her, "Auntie, there's no need to see me off. You're still on an IV drip."

"Then Auntie won't give it to her," Aunt Li said, taking out a bulging red envelope from the bag beside her and handing it to her.

"Auntie, this won't do," Sang Xinqi quickly refused and took a step back.

Aunt Li couldn't get out of bed and looked at her. "This is a little gift from me. If you don't accept it, I'll be angry."

Sang Xinqi didn't know what to do for a moment. It was neither right nor wrong to accept it. Seeing this, Liao Yishen took the red envelope from her mother and stuffed it into Sang Xinqi's bag, saying, "Keep it."

Sang Xinqi was stunned for a moment, then looked up at him.

Liao Yishen curled the corners of his mouth.

Aunt Li smiled and said, "Okay, okay, Sangsang, go back slowly."

Sang Xinqi nodded, "Auntie, I'll be leaving first. I'll come see you again when I have time."

Aunt Li said, "Okay."

After walking out of the hospital gate, Sang Xinqi pulled out the bulging red envelope from her bag and examined it carefully in the sunlight. The heavy weight made her heart beat faster. She turned to look at Liao Yishen, who was walking her downstairs, with a glint of curiosity in her eyes. "This red envelope looks quite substantial."

Liao Yishen had a gentle smile on his face and reached out to tidy up her hair that was messed up by the wind. "How about opening it and taking a look?"

Sang Xinqi nodded. Just as her slender fingers touched the seal of the red envelope, she paused as if she had suddenly thought of something. She raised her head, her eyes filled with anticipation, "Does this mean that Auntie approves of me?"

Liao Yishen looked at her nervous and expectant expression, and couldn't help but rub the top of her head. His voice was full of doting, "When my mother saw you, she was so happy that she couldn't stop smiling."

"Really? I was so nervous that I didn't notice it," Sang Xinqi's mouth corners rose unconsciously. She took a deep breath and carefully opened the red envelope.

A neat stack of banknotes came into view, with a one-yuan note prominently on top. Sang Xinqi blinked, "It should be ten thousand and one yuan."

"Well," Liao Yishen's eyes were as gentle as water, "This means 'one in ten thousand'."

Sang Xinqi clutched the red envelope tightly. "Liao Yishen," she said before throwing herself into his arms and burying her face in his chest. "I'm so happy and touched."

Liao Yishen reached out and hugged the person in his arms, "If you are happy, I am happy too."

Sang Xinqi slightly retreated from his embrace, a hint of shyness in her eyes. She looked around, making sure no one was around. Suddenly, she stood on tiptoe, pecked him on the cheek quickly, and smiled, "Then I'll go back first."

Her movements were too fast, and before Liao Yishen could react, the soft touch had already left. His Adam's apple moved slightly, and his eyes darkened a little. If they were not at the hospital entrance, he really wanted to hold her neck and turn this light kiss into a lingering deep kiss.

"Go straight home?" His voice was slightly hoarse.

Sang Xinqi nodded, then suddenly seemed to remember something and asked, "Will you be back tonight?"

Liao Yishen pondered for a moment, "Uncle Zhang is here today, so I don't need to be here anymore. I should be able to go back."

"Okay," her eyes lit up, her fingertips twisting the bag strap unconsciously, "I'll wait for you at home."

"Well," he replied softly, his voice filled with reluctance, "I'll take you to the basement."

Sang Xinqi nodded, and the two walked into the basement side by side.

After finding a parking space, Liao Yishen opened the door for her.

Sang Xinqi got in and Liao Yishen closed the car door. Sang Xinqi rolled down the window and said reluctantly, "I'm leaving."

Liao Yishen didn't say anything, but leaned in through the car window and kissed her on the lips, "Okay, let's go, go slowly on the road."

Sang Xinqi smiled and pursed her lips, her cheeks slightly red, "Bye."

After saying that, the car slowly drove away.

Liao Yishen stood there without moving, his eyes following the car that was gradually moving away. Only when the light from the car's taillights completely disappeared around the corner did he turn around and leave the basement.

-

It was already half past five when Sang Xinqi returned home.

The afterglow of the setting sun poured into the living room through the curtains, giving the entire room a warm golden hue. She sat on the sofa for a moment and suddenly felt that the room was very quiet.

"Why not go to the supermarket," she muttered to herself, stood up, grabbed her keys and went out.

Sang Xinqi originally just planned to take a look, but stopped when she passed the vegetable section and the meat section.

Can you try cooking a meal tonight? Liao Yishen seemed to have never eaten the food she cooked.

Thinking of this, she immediately took action.

After buying everything, she carried a heavy bag of food home.

On the way home, she began to realize her worries. She usually either ordered takeout or simply cooked noodles, but when she looked at the fresh ingredients in the bag, she suddenly felt a little at a loss.

When she got home, she stared at the ingredients she bought for a while, then opened her phone to search for recipes.

I watched it several times before putting on an apron and doing it.

After half an hour, she finally finished a dish and put it on a plate.

The kitchen was still filled with the sweet aroma of caramel, but the color of the finished cola chicken wings seemed a little darker than the picture in the recipe.

Sang Xinqi poked the slightly blackened chicken wings with her chopsticks and muttered softly, "It should be edible, right?"

"Whatever."

She started to make the next dish, spicy hotpot. In comparison, spicy hotpot was much simpler. She just boiled all the ingredients, then stir-fried the hotpot base, and then put the ingredients into the pot.

Finally, within half an hour, the spicy hot pot was ready. Looking at the two delicious dishes, she felt a rare sense of accomplishment.

She called Liao Yishen.

The phone rang for a long time before the other party answered.

"Sangsang, what's wrong?" Liao Yishen's voice came through the receiver with a familiar tenderness.

"Are you back?" She could hear the expectation in her own voice.

"I'll be home soon."

"I cooked," Sang Xinqi suddenly got stuck in the middle of her words and realized that she had forgotten the most important staple food.

She said a little embarrassedly, "I seem to have forgotten to make the staple food."

A low laugh came from the other end of the phone, and Liao Yishen's voice was indulgent, "It's okay, I can buy some later."

"Okay," she replied after thinking for a moment.

After hanging up the phone, Sang Xinqi waited for about ten minutes before the doorbell rang.

She almost jumped up to open the door.

Liao Yishen was standing outside the door, wearing a black down jacket, with a hint of fatigue between his brows, but his expression softened instantly when he saw her.

"I'm back," her eyes sparkled and she raised the corners of her mouth unconsciously.

Liao Yishen reached out and took her into his arms, rubbing his chin against the top of her head. "What delicious food did you make?"

"Cola chicken wings, spicy hot pot!" Sang Xinqi crawled out of his arms and raised her chin proudly, "I think I did a pretty good job."

Liao Yishen smiled and pinched her face, and they walked towards the living room together. He put the rice he bought on the dining table and followed her into the kitchen.

Sang Xinqi lifted the lid on the dish, and the aroma filled her face. "Doesn't it look delicious?"

Liao Yishen took a closer look. The chicken wings were gleaming with oily sauce, and the ingredients in the hot pot were bright red and tempting. "It looks great, it doesn't look like the first time I made it."

"Hehe," she shook her head proudly, "Now that you praise me like that, I think I have a talent for cooking."

As they were talking, the two of them brought the food and dishes to the dining table in the living room.

After sitting down, Sang Xinqi held her chin with both hands and stared at him without blinking, "Come and try it to see if it tastes good."

Liao Yishen raised his eyebrows slightly and said with a smile, "Didn't you try it first?"

"No," she shook her head, "I wanted to wait for you to eat together."

He picked up a piece of cola chicken wing and took a bite.

The sweet sauce instantly filled my mouth, and it seemed like there was a bit too much sugar.

"How is it?" she asked nervously.

"Not bad," he swallowed it without changing his expression, and picked up a piece of lotus root slices from the hot pot. The stimulating feeling of the chili immediately exploded on the tip of his tongue, but strangely, he could not taste any other flavor.

Sang Xinqi looked at him expectantly, her eyelashes casting a small shadow under the light. Liao Yishen's Adam's apple moved, and the word "tasteless" rolled around on his lips before finally becoming, "It goes well with rice."

Sang Xinqi was so happy, "I told you I have talent."

After saying that, she picked up the cola chicken wings with chopsticks, put it in her mouth, took a bite, chewed it twice, and said, "So sweet!"

She looked up at Liao Yishen and said with a pout, "Okay, okay, you said it was delicious even though it wasn't."

Liao Yishen smiled and said, "It's OK. I think it's edible."

Sang Xinqi: “…”

She picked up the spicy hotpot unwillingly. It looked simple and shouldn't be bad.

But the result disappointed her.

"Why is there no taste? I put in half of the hot pot base," Sang Xinqi said depressedly.

Liao Yishen looked at her and asked, "You put in half of Xiao Kuai's, right?"

Sang Xinqi nodded, "Yes, that's quite spicy. If I put too much, I'm worried that I won't be able to eat it."

Liao Yishen explained, "If you have too many side dishes and only put in a small amount of hot pot base, it will have no flavor. You need to add some other seasonings separately so that the flavor can be brought out."
