In the early morning deep in the mountains, the sky gets brighter later than at the foot of the mountain. A bird flies to the open window and wakes Su Jin up through the gauze screen. The tip of her nose can smell the scent of leaves in nature.
She sat up in her nightgown with baby doll sleeves, a silk quilt covering her legs, and stretched lazily.
"Ayi..." Su Jin glanced at the wall and saw that it was already 7:30.
"Wife, get up quickly and wash up. After breakfast, we will start preparing lunch." After Lu Shiyi finished his morning exercise, he prepared breakfast and waited for Su Jin to get up.
He cleaned the drain again and washed the ingredients to be prepared today.
Su Jin got out of bed, washed up, and used the Jiaorunshi skin care product in a new bottle before changing her clothes and going to the dining room.
There were twenty steamed dumplings, two bowls of millet porridge, and a few cold dishes that Lu Shiyi had learned to make on the dining table.
"I tried to make it myself. How does it taste?" Lu Shiyi chuckled. "I don't think I've grasped the essence of your cooking."
"It's delicious!" Su Jin likes to praise Lu Shiyi's cooking. "Everything you cook suits my taste."
After breakfast, Lu Shiyi cleaned up the dishes and took Su Jin to the open-air kitchen outside the farm.
The canteen staff were sitting on benches, peeling potatoes and sweet potatoes.
"Leave these sweet potato leaves too." Su Jin saw that the sweet potato leaves were still tender and could be used to make cold dishes.
"This can't be eaten. Gather it together and feed it to the pigs later." The staff looked at her in surprise.
Lu Shiyi took a few steps forward and picked up the bamboo basket of sweet potato leaves: "It can be used to make salad and feed pigs with pig grass."
The staff looked at her in surprise: "Sister-in-law, can this be eaten? We tried it in the fall, and the leaves were bitter."
"Sure!" Su Jin picked up the leaves and looked at them. "It can only be tender leaves like this. Stir-fried sweet potato leaves are delicious. You need to peel a lot of garlic today."
Lu Shiyi sat aside and began to teach the staff how to pick sweet potato leaves.
Nearing eleven o'clock, Su Jin stood in front of two open-air stoves, one pot was braising offal, and the other pot was frying pots of vegetables.
The aroma of the food drifted into the fields. As the old people drank water, they all muttered that today's food was really delicious.
The team members led by Lu Shiyi sped up their training and prepared to run back to the camp before dinner. The members of the Pigeon Committee looked at the team members in the distance who were as excited as if they had been injected with chicken blood with frowns.
"Hurry up, don't delay us from going back to eat!" It was rare for the team members to eat Su Jin's food. They envied Zong Li and the others, and often followed Lu Shiyi back to eat for free.
Before lunch started, both teams rushed back to the camp, and Su Jin had already prepared the mixed grain rice.
There were pots of food on the tables in the cafeteria, and the braised offal, eggs, soy products and vermicelli were also cooked.
Su Jin picked up the cuttlefish, cut them, and placed them in enamel basins.
The elderly people each get one egg a day. I didn’t make boiled eggs for them this morning, so I put the braised eggs from the stewed meat on the mixed grain rice.
"Give me another spoonful of soup, you stingy people." The old man smelled the fragrance, "Why don't we roast all the meat and eat it?"
"Grandpa, these are offal, soy products, vermicelli, and eggs." The staff hurriedly explained.
The old men looked at the food in the lunch box in disbelief: "That's great, you can make it often in the future."
"Mrs. Lu's cooking skills are great, we all want to become her apprentice." The staff of the kitchen team said helplessly.
After Su Jin came out to cook, the people in the kitchen were worried that after she left the farm, the old men would quarrel over the food.
After everyone received their meals and left, the kitchen staff sat in front of Lu Shiyi's table.
"Sister-in-law, please teach us how to cook," the kitchen team leader pleaded. "Life in the mountains is different from down there. When the mountain is closed due to heavy snow, we almost have to eat what's in stock."
Su Jin looked up at the squad leader of the kitchen team. The man was in his 40s. When Su Jin came over yesterday, he found that he rarely smiled.
"Squad leader, that's no problem. I can also teach you some ways to pickle vegetables. If you smile more, everyone will be in a better mood." Su Jin made a suggestion, and the squad leader accepted it humbly.
"Sister-in-law, starting from tomorrow, I hope Lu Bu can help me." The squad leader said hurriedly.
Lu Shiyi nodded at Su Jin. She looked at everyone who was eating happily and felt happy in her heart.
"Ayi, I'm sorry to bother you these few days. I need you to cook for everyone." Su Jin smiled at Lu Shiyi, "I can't get up in the morning, but I can make lunch and dinner."
The squad leader waved his hands repeatedly: "Sister-in-law only needs to be responsible for lunch and dinner for a few days, with Lu Bu helping her, and we will build two more stoves, and you can learn along with us."
After hearing this, the team members and elderly people present felt instantly better and smiled more often.
After lunch, many people came up to Su Jin and praised her cooking skills, and her face became stiff with smiles.
Only after returning to the room and taking a nap did Su Jin feel alive again.
"Wife, thank you for your hard work!" Lu Shiyi reached out and pinched her cheek. "I think the old people haven't been this happy for a long time."
Su Jin heard Lu Shiyi mention the situation of the elderly people on the farm. Before they came here, they had already lost confidence in the future. Here, there was a light in their eyes day by day.
"Ayi, can we come visit them more often in the future?" Su Jin raised her head and asked him, "I thought of my own grandfather."
Su Jin looked at some familiar faces. Among those people, some were the characters in the portraits.
Now that she can see those people in person, she hopes to take care of them to the best of her ability.
"Wife, I'll come with you a few more times. You have to take care of yourself now." Lu Shiyi hugged her and said, "According to the doctor, you should have a good rest."
Su Jin leaned relaxedly on her shoulder, closing his eyes to rest.
"Ayi, what should we make for dinner tonight?" Su Jin was thinking of all kinds of food in her mind.
"Wife, a few old men just said they wanted to eat Xian people's food." Lu Shiyi remembered that those people followed the old marshal to go on an expedition and stayed in Xian country for a long time. After they returned home, they always wanted to eat food with the same taste.
Su Jin remembered the battle recorded in the book. Although he was behind in many weapons, he still won the final victory.
"Ayi, let me think about what kind of Xianzu food to cook. I remember most of them are cold dishes." Su Jin thought about the ingredients. "Only pork belly is missing, but everything else is available."
"There were nearly 10 kilograms of pork belly left yesterday." Lu Shiyi pinched her nose, "I'll grill the meat for you myself tonight. We have some perilla leaves here, too."
Su Jin hummed, "Wake me up at two o'clock to pickle radishes. These are good for relieving the greasiness."
