Chapter 143 Entering the City

The next morning, Lu Shiyi sat by the bed and patiently called Su Jin to get up. After listening to the wall, the two went home early to eat, wash up and go to bed. As the months got older, Su Jin's sleep time gradually increased.

"Wife, if we don't get up now, we will miss the chance to eat sauerkraut dumplings in the state-owned restaurant." Lu Shiyi had planned to have sauerkraut dumplings for breakfast today. After the food shortage, the state-owned restaurant only served dumplings once a month.

Su Jin opened her eyes and dazedly stretched out her arms towards him.

"Ayi, change my clothes, let's go quickly!" Su Jin wanted to continue sleeping, but her mind was not clear yet.

Lu Shiyi looked at his wife with amusement, and felt at ease.

Since Su Jin got married, she has been too independent. Unlike other wives, she is not as dependent on her husband, which makes him a little anxious.

After washing and dressing up, Su Jin felt refreshed. She took a glass of honey water from the space and drank it, then followed Lu Shiyi into the city.

Many people from the farm went to the county town today, and the main group started to go down the mountain at around 6 o'clock.

Lu Shiyi held Su Jin's little hand and slowed down his pace as he headed towards the county town.

"Ayi, the weather is so nice." Su Jin has been busy drying clothes and towel blankets these days. She still likes bedding that smells like sunshine.

"Let's eat dumplings, then go buy some meat and bones," Lu Shiyi said softly to Su Jin, "Are we really not going to the hospital for an ultrasound?"

"No, I'll show you the baby tonight." While Su Jin was taking a bath yesterday, she entered the space and went to a private clinic on the street to take a four-dimensional image.

Ever since she provided the medicinal materials, the space has been upgraded and virtual medical staff have appeared in the hospital. When she goes to see a doctor, there are medical staff to receive her specifically.

"Wife, let's talk about it when we get back." When Lu Shiyi heard Su Jin's words, the muscles in his back tensed up and he immediately stopped her from saying anything more.

The secret that Su Jin carries must never be exposed. Lu Shiyi plans to work hard to get promoted, so that at least Su Jin can live freely and not have to be cautious all day long.

It was almost 9 o'clock when Su Jin arrived at the state-owned restaurant, and her stomach began to growl.

After the two entered the state-owned restaurant, Lu Shiyi settled Su Jin down and went to the front to order dumplings.

Su Jin stared at the street scene outside the door. She hadn't been to the county town for a month. When she came here today, she found that the pedestrians looked terrified. When they saw the team members with red armbands, they all tried to get out of the way.

Lu Shiyi came over with some cold dishes and vinegar and sat down. Following Su Jin's gaze, he saw several farmers being pushed by members of the red armband team.

"Again, people are coming to the city to exchange for coarse grains. I guess they will become rich again this time." The person at the next table muttered in a low voice.

"Shut up, you're outside," his companion warned. "Talk less and eat more."

"Sauerkraut dumplings!" the cashier shouted from the side.

Lu Shiyi returned with three pounds of sauerkraut dumplings and sat down. Su Jin picked up her chopsticks and began to eat. Sure enough, the sauerkraut was quite flavorful this time.

"Ayi, it's really delicious!" Su Jin and Lu Shiyi came here to eat it once, and she remembered the taste.

"That's right, this chef is really good at making sauerkraut dumplings!" Lu Shiyi chuckled, "Eat more so we can go shopping."

The two people at the next table looked at the young couple and found that they were eating sauerkraut dumplings. Then they saw the military smell on Lu Shiyi and immediately quickened their eating speed.

After eating the dumplings, Lu Shiyi bought fifteen vegetable buns and put them in his bamboo basket. Then the two of them rushed to the supply and marketing cooperative. Today the supply and marketing cooperative was selling fine grains, and many people in the city used their grain books to buy grain.

People started queuing at around 3 a.m., and some people took time off specifically to buy food.

Wang Boya and Liu Siying followed the young couple's reminder, got up at 2:30, and went down the mountain to the county town in the dark. When they arrived at the door of the supply and marketing cooperative, they found that there were already people queuing.

When Su Jin and Lu Shiyi came over, their faces were pale with exhaustion.

"Doctor Wang, Nurse Liu, you haven't had breakfast yet, right? I bought some buns from the supply and marketing cooperative." Su Jin took two buns from the bamboo basket and handed them over.

Wang Boya and Liu Siying waved their hands repeatedly. The state-owned restaurant's buns required fine grain coupons. The Ministry of Land and Resources must have bought them specially for Su Jin, so they absolutely could not take them.

"Take it and eat it. I think we'll have to wait in line for a few hours. If you don't eat and faint from hunger, who will take you home?" Su Jin stuffed one of the two individually wrapped oil-paper bags into each of their mouths. "Just help me check it carefully later."

Lu Shiyi stood behind Su Jin and did not stop her actions.

"Thank you, sister-in-law!" For the first time, Liu Siying willingly called Su Jin sister-in-law.

Since the changes at home, Liu Siying discovered the ups and downs of the environment. Wang Boya and she stayed together and could take care of each other. Otherwise, her life would be more difficult.

"Buy more food and store it." Lu Shiyi said lightly as he passed by the two of them, following Su Jin's suggestion.

Wang Boya and Liu Siying looked at their backs with gratitude. Liu Siying admired Su Jin's broad-mindedness and did not take her little action to heart.

"What are you looking at?" Wang Boya nudged her and asked. "Hurry up and eat the buns. We'll have to bring a lot of food back later."

Liu Siying hummed, "Listen carefully, Teacher Su. I did those things, and she can actually forgive me."

When Lu Shiyi and Su Jin came over, Liu Siying thought Su Jin was instructing him to keep it for Wang Boya, but she didn't expect that he also gave it to her.

"When Teacher Su goes for prenatal checkups and delivery, just help out more." Wang Boya said, "You're a nurse, so you'll have more time to help."

The young couple entered the supply and marketing cooperative. Su Jin kept paying attention to the queue and found that there were more and more people.

"Wife, let's go directly to the meat stall, buy some ribs and meat, and then go home." Lu Shiyi turned sideways and told Su Jin, "There are too many people in the supply and marketing cooperative. Let's not join in the fun. Let's go back when there are fewer people."

Lu Shiyi kept a close eye on Su Jin's actions. There were many people around her, so he pulled her to his side.

"Today, the supply and marketing cooperatives and grain stations are full of people, but there are relatively few people here at the supply and marketing cooperative." Su Jin heard a middle-aged woman who was buying grain say as she passed by the counter.

Lu Shiyi reached out and pulled her. Just as they arrived at the meat stall, Su Jin found a woman standing in front of the stall. She was looking for the meat tickets and found that the grain book was missing, and various bills were stuck inside.

"My food allowance is missing!" The woman felt all the bags on her body and raised her voice.

Su Jin looked at the other person and saw the woman sitting on the ground crying loudly.

"Go find the manager and call the police." Lu Shiyi reminded the butcher, "If you lost your grain certificate, you need to call the police to get a replacement."

Su Jin stood aside, looking at the woman with red eyes, mumbling to herself that she came here today to buy food.

"Who stole my two books? Please return them to me. I need to buy food for my family." The woman sobbed.
